My multilingual friends do that often. One of my best friends is an absolute genius when it comes to languages. She spoke spoke English (her first language) really soon after she was born (I can't remember the exact months of age) and learned to read and write soon after. She already nailed down 4 other languages in elementary school and further learned through middle school, highschool, and is learning some others and different types of sign languages in college. It's so interesting to see how multilingual people completely immerse themselves in studying language. She was so used to it that she would have a better word for a feeling in a different language when there is no English word for it. It causes a lot of funny moments 😂 I want to learn another language so baad but my brain is tired😫

Especially since your reasoning is, "I know dudes better than you know dudes." Following that logic, Mariel probably knows chicks better than you know chicks. As a man, I completely understand your concern. I don't why you think it defines the power structure in their relationship. Here is what comes to my mind 1. David is an entertainer. There are just too many female "friends" (a.k.a temporary colleagues) who will be in his friend circle from time to time. David will have too many coffee meetings, table reads, project meetups to bother Mariel with that each time. 2. David isn't the type of guy to casually go on excursions with girls who he isn't working with or close with, and Mariel knows all of Davids close friends. They're one big family 3. David has made it clear that he is honest to a fault, and for that reason, he isn't likely to give any girl the wrong idea. 4. Mariel literally went on a date with a guy who wanted to be her boyfriend. She didn't even realize it was happening when David told her. That's a big issue for most people. So, I don't think his request had anything to do with power. David just wants her to be safe. Guys are just more dangerous sometimes, and it's best for David to see these men if they really have bad intentions. Also, don't forget that most women want to submit to their significant other. I learned that from a several medical and sociology studies.

the way he said that to Mariel “We’re not friends, we’re dating“ damn it reminded me of my own relationship lol my husband is Korean and I'm Mexican. we met online, it was a long distance relationship. the times when we met up gf/bf topic wasn't brought up which I found weird. this guy is driving 5 hrs to come see me like once a week. we were on our 3rd month by then. up until some things were happening that we couldn't meet up for a month. we didn't really text/call, text like "hope you're doing well. make sure you sleep and eat well". we were both busy so sometimes we didn't reply. he called me late at night and told me "tell me you love me" no hello or how are you LOL I actually thought he lost interest in me and thought he would break it off with me because WHO CALLS AT 2AM?! (he wasn't drinking) I hesitated in saying it and he quickly said "okay I get it. i think this is goodbye" i was like "no, wait" and I said it "I love you". he laughed "say it again" -__- he came out pretty strong with the i love you thing. we met up a day after and I was somewhat afraid that it wouldn't last long. i asked him if he was okay with the long distance relationship. he said "you're gonna move in with me" o_O we were on the 5th month when I moved in with him. even though I already did the biggest decision in my life, moving to a different state and living with a bf. I was questioning him. "why me?" he told me that he tested me. i was like when??? "I left my watch at your place and you quickly told me. you paid for dinner sometimes when I lied that I spent my cash on the tows. i lied about being short on rent, you were willing to help me out" damn lol he told me that he dated other girls online and they would ask for money, he didn't like that. i was surprised like shit i could have got conned. he brought up marriage when he was having financial problems and I tried to help him the best I could. being in that kind of situation, to see that I stuck around and didn't just walk off meant a lot to him. this year we will be on our 6th year together, married for 5 years. no alien baby yet maybe when I'm close to 30.

I think the most interesting podcasts are the ones the person knows best. You can just tell that they know each other's boundaries and knows how to converse with them. They also just serve as really good stories for the audience since both parties were involved.

I don't see why guys can't simply be nice. I'm a girl and I take 30-50mns to help a stranger (boy or girl, woman or man. Whether they're nice or not) with their research paper, help them find sources, and the best way I feel they can utilize them. There are older women in academics who said that I reminded them of themselves and they took me under their wing along with a couple of older gentleman who give me career advice respectfully and motivate me to seek higher paying opportunities.

1. David is an entertainer. There are just too many female "friends" (a.k.a temporary colleagues) who will be in his friend circle from time to time. David will have too many coffee meetings, table reads, project meetups to bother Mariel with that each time.
2. David isn't the type of guy to casually go on excursions with girls who he isn't working with or close with, and Mariel knows all of Davids close friends. They're one big family
3. David has made it clear that he is honest to a fault, and for that reason, he isn't likely to give any girl the wrong idea.
4. Mariel literally went on a date with a guy who wanted to be her boyfriend. She didn't even realize it was happening when David told her. That's a big issue for most people.
So, I don't think his request had anything to do with power. David just wants her to be safe. Guys are just more dangerous sometimes, and it's best for David to see these men if they really have bad intentions. Also, don't forget that most women want to submit to their significant other. I learned that from a several medical and sociology studies.

Also, female submission is not only cultural and religious, but it is an overwhelmingly common desire in intimacy. Also, women having their guard up means nothing essentially. David warned Mariel about the guy she went out with, and he was completely right. It's that simple, and your explanation of these social expectations for women are just observations in humorous banter. the way he said that to Mariel “We’re not friends, we’re dating“ damn it reminded me of my own relationship lol my husband is Korean and I'm Mexican. we met online, it was a long distance relationship. the times when we met up gf/bf topic wasn't brought up which I found weird. this guy is driving 5 hrs to come see me like once a week. we were on our 3rd month by then. up until some things were happening that we couldn't meet up for a month. we didn't really text/call, text like "hope you're doing well. make sure you sleep and eat well". we were both busy so sometimes we didn't reply. he called me late at night and told me "tell me you love me" no hello or how are you LOL I actually thought he lost interest in me and thought he would break it off with me because WHO CALLS AT 2AM?! (he wasn't drinking) I hesitated in saying it and he quickly said "okay I get it. i think this is goodbye" i was like "no, wait" and I said it "I love you". he laughed "say it again" -__- he came out pretty strong with the i love you thing. we met up a day after and I was somewhat afraid that it wouldn't last long. i asked him if he was okay with the long distance relationship. he said "you're gonna move in with me" o_O we were on the 5th month when I moved in with him. even though I already did the biggest decision in my life, moving to a different state and living with a bf. I was questioning him. "why me?" he told me that he tested me. i was like when??? "I left my watch at your place and you quickly told me. you paid for dinner sometimes when I lied that I spent my cash on the tows. i lied about being short on rent, you were willing to help me out" damn lol he told me that he dated other girls online and they would ask for money, he didn't like that. i was surprised like shit i could have got conned. he brought up marriage when he was having financial problems and I tried to help him the best I could. being in that kind of situation, to see that I stuck around and didn't just walk off meant a lot to him. this year we will be on our 6th year together, married for 5 years. no alien baby yet maybe when I'm close to 30.

Not gonna lie the girl I’m dating now said the exact same thing your girlfriend said. She said how I didn’t ask her out when I thought I clearly did but sense I didn’t say “would you like to go on a date with me?” She would’ve took it as a friend thing. Luckily for me I asked on Valentine’s Day so she knew right away. I just found it funny that I’m not the only one in my scenario.

I think the most interesting podcasts are the ones the person knows best. You can just tell that they know each other's boundaries and knows how to converse with them. They also just serve as really good stories for the audience since both parties were involved.

I don't see why guys can't simply be nice. I'm a girl and I take 30-50mns to help a stranger (boy or girl, woman or man. Whether they're nice or not) with their research paper, help them find sources, and the best way I feel they can utilize them. There are older women in academics who said that I reminded them of themselves and they took me under their wing along with a couple of older gentleman who give me career advice respectfully and motivate me to seek higher paying opportunities.
I see what David is saying, some people are obviously having ulterior motives, but in general, I wish guys can see women and girls as humans who could be great intelligent friends.
