This is a video of the US Army fighting against the Japanese Army at the Shuri Castle during the Battle of Okinawa in the Pacific War, simulated in Call of Duty World at War.
Call of Duty: World at War is a 2008 first-person shooter video game developed by Treyarch and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. The game was released in North America on November 11, 2008, and in Europe on November 14, 2008.

I always thought it a fine touch to start this map without any ammo or supplies. Really gave a good emphasis on how vital these supply drops were, and also how often they could land in enemy hands.
As for this one, I always went for the MG .30 cal and Springfield Sniper rifle. The .30 had a surprisingly good visor, lots of ammo and packed a helluva punch. The Springfield, well, let's just say it made observing and taking out enemy MG nests a LOT easier.
(I played this on the Wii, gosh the feels of realism for those days!)
same lay out for weapons when I played this but as I get closer to the end I switch my Springfield sniper to Japanese SMG since I am running out of ammo

1:54 the music was pure rage. The soundtrack to this game was epic. Especially for the Russian Campaign.

I really loved this game and got the principle of the Bansai attack into my game. My favorite weapon was the Arisjaka Meiji 38 with bayonet and I always used it when the opponent was too close to me or when I stormed, only in that I miss that clip
I used to love charging in wit it
Looking back, this game aged well but there are many historical inaccuracies for the sake of the game.
For example, there was only one major banzai charge on Okinawa. In the game, the Japanese charge you almost every 30 seconds, even if they have no tactical advantage whatsoever. There are even some guys charging you with SMGs. Secondly, Shuri Castle was definitely not the last battle on Okinawa and the fighting would go on for another month. There would not be this many trees and foliage around because the Navy shelled the island so much that it ended up looking like a muddy moonscape like the WW1 trenches. The AI is horribly stupid in this game but hey its 2008.
Also, the Americans didn't fight their way into Shuri Castle. They encountered fierce resistance on the Shuri Line, but by the time they entered the castle itself, most of the Japanese had withdrawn, and those that remained were quickly mopped up.

I think the ai was really bad because this guy had it on a low difficulty. On Veteran mode he would've died 100 times over.

@@ariqarisya It does mean long live the emperor. Tenno Heika (天皇陛下、てんのうへいか) is an very honorific way of regarding the emperor. And Banzai in some cases means eternal life, and since the Japanese are sacrificing themselves in this case, they're wishing eternal life for the emperor.

I thought the battle of Okinawa was set on ridge with destroyed trees and flat sands
Okinawa was a mixture of muddy and wet mountain fighting further north. Open ground fighting in the flat southern part of the island and in the middle of the island the Shuri line was a vast expanse and charred and rugged ridges laced with Japanese infantry. There was also some urban combat such as in Naha.

i went to Shuri Castle in Okinwaw a few weeks ago. Looks nothing like this haha.
Shuri castle was shelled by the US Navy during the battle and was obliterated entirely, and what remained caught fire and burned. They had to rebuild the castle later so of course it looks a bit different.

its crazy to think that we Americans were once at War with the Japanese and now we play many of their video games like Mario, Sonic, Street Fighter and what not and watch Anime like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Once Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho all to the point where we play a more realistic adaptation of WW2 featuring the Japanese.

Wtf in my ending polonsky was killed but roebuck was alive and he gave me polonsky's dogtag!
Yeah it’s alternate endings you can save Polonsky or Roebuck. The dog tag scene is based off of who you choose to save.
You can save either one of them.
Kill the guys attacking Sgt. Roebuck to save him, but Polonsky dies.

This mission was the worst and hardest
Really? It was my favorite, besides the assault on Pelilou Island, and I found it to be easy and fun. I guess all experiences are different though.
The hardest part is only toward the end (when trying to hold your position against waves of Japanese counter-attack in Shuri Castle).
