Today makes 14 years since my moms passing. Once I’m done making these breakfast burritos I’m headed out on the water to throw a popper until I have to go to work. She wouldn’t want me to do anything else
God bless you sir.... I'm so very sorry for your loss. Her smile is the sun shining down on you everyday, and as you fish. We shall all meet again in God's Kingdom. Fish on and stay strong my brother.🙏

Awsome day on the Delta Greg! Big girl, with the dance! Lol. Don't really believe in the full moon. But I've had good, and bad day's. But the kayak, allows you to cover different spots and more water. 😎 🙏 🎣
The confidence meter cracked me up. That's exactly how I feel when I go out fishing. In the morning, I feel like a kid that's on his way to his favorite arcade! After a tough day, I'm the kid who realized his favorite game was out of order.
From what I have noticed in the spring full moons bring in the different waves of spawning bass, also summer time full moon at night big time crawdad eaters
I've always heard the morning after a full moon and before the full moon is tough fishing. Because the fish have been feeding at night. I believe the fish get into an evening and night pattern when the moon starts getting brighter and brighter. And when there's a new moon cycle the fish mainly feed early in the morning and a little bit through the day time on and off. and then a little better before dusk. This is my theory of how the moon effects their feeding patterns. But alot of times I can't follow the moon because I go fishing when the weather is good or I go when I can go. Verygood video Greg🙂🍺
yea I agree with ya that usually the day before or after a full moon is tough I like usually 3 days after or before and at a Major times usually tend to help as well but also knowing the tide cause usually a couple hrs before outgoing tide it gets good and the beginning of the incoming.
used a popper last week in delta, lots of bass. went 5 for 5 on senko follow up. Wacky rig your senko and keep the rod at immediate grab and go (literally on the deck rdy). When they miss, try a couple maneuvers with the popper right then, if no dice in a couple seconds set the rod down dont reel the popper in and very gently cast the senko directly 4 ft behind popper and skidder the wacky rig on the surface to the popper then kill it and let it go to bottom (no extra twitching) then dont touch it for a bit. if no dice, that's it they are done, maybe try a cast or 2 with the stick bait to some cover nearby but your chances went down solid 80% after the first cast and after about 10 seconds. be ready for the popper strike if it comes when its sitting there still as well. And if you do this method have a 2 rod stamp (CA required) and check your tourny regs because thats 2 rods out at once.
Dont forget the mono leader for shock absorbance! treble hook baits need some give. Used to fish braid myself, increased land ratio on topwater solid 20% by adding 2-6ft mono 8-18lb depending on bait use and water clarity. Also I get more bites since its less visible when the fish are looking up.
Hey Greg, i’m an avid Delta fisherman but recently moved away because of the military. i’ve had the most success (frog wise) during this time of year and into late summer with a light green frog with a white under belly. just thought i would pass along the information since frog fishing is my favorite thing to do and i’m unable to do it as often as i would like to. Love the vids! keep it up!
Congrats Greg on a great morning including that 6 pounder! I loved your beginning comment about the excitement we all have at the beginning of our fishing days, that's what keeps it special, I feel it every time and I've been fishing for 50+ years now!
That 6 pounder was a beautiful fish. And it looked like a super nice day out glottal love it. It was nice to get home from work late & watch a nice day on the Delta. Thanks
Makin it look easy Greg! Very nice work sir! Lots of speculation about moon phases as it pertains to the spawn, but I'm with you - I go when I can go and you never know. Tight lines all the time!
I'm glad the bite finally picked up for you - no one enjoys a grind! I normally don't care for the day after a full moon because it has been a grind 🙁 As always, thanks for the share 😊
Greg, as an inshore angler that targets trophy sea trout here on the TX coast, many of not all serious anglers live and die by the moon phase (myself included). So to answer your question, I prefer pre new moon and the new moon itself.
Geez man, I must be playing with fire throwing a popper frog with 12# line lol. #Ibelieve. Got skunked this morning. Hoping to swing out this evening though and redeem myself. That 6.21 hog was real nice. Hoping to get a PB on a topwater frog. That would be siiiiiiiick.
I'm a big believer in the Solunar tables, Full and New moon can be great during spring, more so pre spawn. Had some of my best days around those phases, especially with a light rain and mid-day being the best time.
Two things I took from this video GB...popper action was on point and CA gas prices..Heck really all over the U.S. is INSANE. Couldn't help but notice at the 19:45 mark the $100.00 to fill the Dodge up. Another great vid man!
Another great vid Greg. Thank you for sharing. Can't beat a popper for topwater..at least I can't. Ploppers, frogs, buzz baits, none of them produce for me like a good ol' popper. 70 size seems to be the sweet spot. And I do love the Berkley popper! You know you got a big one when they barely make a commotion...they just suck it down. I throw it on a 6'8" medium/extra fast rod with 40lb braid to a short (10") 16lb mono leader. The leader is stiffer than the limp braid and will foul up with front treble much less. But with that braid I can get so much longer casts...Recently started using a loop knot (for "more natural action") but not sure it really matters. Good luck everyone!
I'm with you Greg, I'm fishing when I'm fishing, I haven't really followed moon phases but I'm one of your other subscribers can give me some direction also. I'm thinking of entering my first kayak tournament and I could use all the help I can get.
It’s crazy how many times a big bass will hit a top water so gently. Just come up to the surface and suck it under. Have had that happen so many times.
You only have about 8 maybe 10 seconds to get that senko in there for a follow up cast… have to have it ready to go on the deck… which is hard to do on a kayak as you probably already know. 😉
Firstly love the confidence meter lol; I was just told by an old guy that he’s been fishing at night during the full moon in spring and summer- specifically in tidal water and they’ve been on all night and by the time the sun comes up they’re all full and turned off- not sure how true that is
Greg, good top water bass! I recognize King Island Resort marina, and am thinking of going Saturday early morning, and picking some bass up in those area's you are fishing at. There is vegetation, and mats to punch and frog. I am fishing all over that marina. It is a good marina for Kayak's and pontoon inflatables. Saw someone fishing a Sea Eagle Skiff casting in between that opening in middle of slough. 102 degrees last Wednesday, & guys were punching and froggin, off bass boats.
I had a Casio watch that ran the Moon Phases along with the time. It would show you when to go fishing at the right time. I tried it for 2 years. It was right on 80% of the time. Maybe they still have it. Maybe someone could look that up. Then maybe get back with us fisherman. Shawn.
I have been doing the first full moon in June since 2019 based on a recommendation from Tactical Bassin. I had one of the best days I've ever had, and make it a point to do this every year. This is a lake about 80 miles south of you. I'm doing best on Senko, with the occasional aggressive hit on blue black jig
I love that scale just got it the other day. I was missing out awesome scale. We have had good luck after the moon faze at McClure And Maloneys no size but numbers
I love the full moon bite up here in NY. I feel like sometimes they get more skiddish than usual during the full moon for some reason. But I tend to catch some big guys in that phase though.
I've had great mornings after a full moon, got something to do with periods of extended light effecting the bait....one morning I kept pulling fish in and a bunch of em had crawfish antenna sticking out their throat. That was a NY lake tho...not a tidal river.
full moon -2/+2 days morning bite is rought night bite is on fire , new moon morning bite is fire and evening bite is good . this is base on 8 years fishing and i been tracking for the last 5
In my experience anytime we have clear nights with a bright moon regardless of phase daytime fishing is tougher sometimes.. I don't have much experience on the delta but it seems to me the hot bite window is really in tune with the tidal movement.. I had a bass in a tank for a while when I had an abundance of food in the tank I would never see it eat, it only fed at night. Fishing is fishing you never know until you go
Great video, I had a 20lb bag yesterday throwing squarebills, slow rolling them. I cant help but just cover water and throw them river2sea crankbaits!!
I don't catch a ton of bass, but this time of year i can catch them. Full moon in May, June and July. Fish areas where bass were spawning and bluegill are currently spawning. It's a great time for green pumpkin blue rage bug, a popper and a green pumpkin senko. Last for about 4 days after the full moon. Do it again the next month. It's particularly good if you have a bluegill area with easy access to deeper water.
Last year I was strictly using the bullet pop and I am very impressed with it, I was using the bluegill and white popper Even help me catch a few limit in some tournaments
I fished this same full moon out in AZ. I was on a very difficult lake and had the most epic day I have ever had there. I caught fish all day. 103 degrees 2pm crushing em. Fished until 9 pm caught 50 fish. I have also not had good luck during full moon. I wonder if this full moon was somehow different?
From my experience fishing for stripers with topwater, the bigger fish are able to inhale or slurp down your bait with little effort, which creates less disturbance on the surface.
Hey Greg, I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't know but there is a reason the biggest fish frequently bite the softest. Small to medium size fish have to make sure they stun or kill whatever they are trying to eat as well as get their meal quickly before other similarly sized bass try to swoop in and get it. So they will straight up clobber a bait. Whereas the bigger fish don't have to worry about that. They can often just swim up and inhale most of their meals. They don't have to smack the life out of it before they eat it and if a bigger fish is close enough and keyed in on a meal then littler fish often won't run the odds of trying to get in its way.
Idk what the rest of these guys are talking about, but a two days before, the day of, and two days after a full moon/ new moon really turn the bass on! My biggest bass and my best numbers have come during these periods. And to the guy that claims bass don't bite at night because they rely on sight, you just don't know what your doing. Full moon behind heavy cloud cover in the middle of the night is primo bass fishing time (not with reaction baits either) im talking worms jigs flukes and dropshotting all being worked extremely SLOW.
From what I understand, fish become more active during the full moon and new moon. And also during tide changes due to water movement (especially incoming tide because it brings in cooler water with baitfish and oxygen). So fish likely feed at night during these moon phases. Which means they aren’t hungry in the morning after. Feeding may pick up in the afternoon again, especially if there is an incoming tide in estuaries.
I can tell you as a night fisherman, when the moon is full, with no cloud cover, fishing is tough at night, especially shallow. When there is cloud cover, the fish seem to bite better regardless of the moon phase. That's just my take. It's almost like fishing under a bright sun.
Have you tried the lobina ricos? I like Berkeley hard baits like the choppo and flicker shad. Been thinking about trying the Berkeley popper due to the ricos being so expensive but there's some magic about them. Hope all is good thanks for the great content!
Greg, I’m also a fishing UA-camr and I enjoy everything you post. I can’t fish as often as you because I have work, I only fish a couple days out of the week at max. I’m glad you get to do what you love! I’m trying to make my way there
I literally learned the power of a popper this week. The pattern was to wait until the bass surfaced for a bug, then throw the popper right on its head and let it do it magic. Every fish would smash it! Even some bluegills couldn’t resist.
When we have a full moon or close to it. I picture those bass out "partying" all night. Bite shuts off after 9,10 am and the bigs come out after 1,2pm after recouping lol
So I live in west Michigan and the full moon in may and early June has the bluegill go nuts around here, they will spawn and eat bugs at the surface the the days following, I use a bluegill swimbait or topwater and it's awesome fishing.
Also the biggest factor I keep looking at is barometric pressure. If the pressure is above 30 points it is soooo tough but anything below 30 is good. Crazy how such a small change can effect them
Greg is an inspiration to go fish, my local lake (lake hodges) in san diego has been having so dam issues, they have dropped it 7 vertical feet so far out of 30, its so sad to see.
And yes we have incompetent city officials .They should of just built another dam, behind the old one.Water conversation should be the priority but the RSF residents have a deal in place for that water so they can get it cheaper for their 10 acre lands.
Hey Greg, quick question for you: what is the purpose of the rudder foil you have on your motor shaft? I have the NK180 but get a fair amount of cavitation and I'm wondering if that would help any.
Today makes 14 years since my moms passing. Once I’m done making these breakfast burritos I’m headed out on the water to throw a popper until I have to go to work. She wouldn’t want me to do anything else

Supposedly the bite is tougher during full moons because the fish can feed easier at night so they are less likely to during the day… supposedly.

Great video greg
I pay attention to the phase of the moon on the good days. I try to fish again on that same day of the month and phase as I do on other days.
Lol same. I was 7 years old, grandpa tied it on for me. 22 years later I’m still throwing that popper !
Crazy how such a small change can effect them
I absolutely pay attention to moon phases
I actually like fishing a noisy top water at night during a full moon. Get some crazy bites!
Good stuff Gregor
Greg is an inspiration to go fish, my local lake (lake hodges) in san diego has been having so dam issues, they have dropped it 7 vertical feet so far out of 30, its so sad to see.
Hey that's my stomping grounds! Been fishing there twice a week during the season for the last 10-12 years .You a boater or foot warrior?
And yes we have incompetent city officials .They should of just built another dam, behind the old one.Water conversation should be the priority but the RSF residents have a deal in place for that water so they can get it cheaper for their 10 acre lands.

Hey Greg, quick question for you: what is the purpose of the rudder foil you have on your motor shaft? I have the NK180 but get a fair amount of cavitation and I'm wondering if that would help any.
