Dragonborn in 4th Edition definitely hatched from eggs. In fact the 4 Ed. DMG had a little anecdote at the beginning where one of the game designers was playtesting with his son. The son found out his Dragonborn character was hatched and asked "I come from an egg? Can I carry a piece of eggshell with me?"
One thing you might want to note is that dragon born have an interesting quirk when playing as druids. Because of their nature, dragon born May use their breath weapon while in wild shape form.
Hey guys! Love all the episodes so far. Still watching back episodes, but listen to the show just about all day at work. Much better than work!
So in my Greek style setting Dragonborn are sown from the teeth of a dragon. Basically Spartoi from the myth of Cadmus. It was easier there than in my post-ragnorok setting.
*Playing the full release of Baldur's Gate 3 and watching these Lore Videos are amazing and really add some enrichment to the playthrough... When I played BG3 in early access I was a human fighter, I believe... This playthrough though, since the full release recently came out, I am playing a Blue Dragonborn that spits lightning... Super fun so far. The Dragonborn look amazing in this game.*
PHB handbook says dragonborn walk within hours of hatching
In my experience, the greatest creativity comes from places where restraints has been imposed.
I personally always let my players have the entirety of their backstory involved with a campaign at large. Sure, it won't always be relevant to the story I'm telling, but I feel like as a DM, it's my job to shape the story around the characters that are playing as well as lead them to the one I wish to tell. Staying traditional isn't always fun. I let imagination run wild and I haven't regretted it yet. I've always ended up with gripping stories because players have way more choice than what the tradition states
29:15 In my head canon it differs from tribe to tribe along with their origin story with those that believe they are born of dragons liking them and those who believe they were created to be slaves hating them. This difference in beliefs leads to conflicts between the tribes and therefore to their tribe-centric lifestyle.
Nice video! This race's origins is a very "hazy" topic at the very least, for even the dragonborn themselves are uncertain of their actual origin; the three most accepted theories/explanations/legends are that (1) Io, the ancient dragon god, shaped dragons by fusing astral spirits with the wrath of the elements; the greater spirits turned into dragons, and the lesser into dragonborn or that (2) Io created only the dragons in the beginning, but when he was literally split into Tiamat and Bahamut during the Dawn Wars there was a scattering of droplets from his blood, which gave rise to the dragonborn (this is interpreted in two ways: some see that as proof of their inferiority to dragons while others consider an honour to have the blood of a god in their veins); lastly, it's also said that Io created them as the first humanoids, while the other humanoid races are seen as a "pale imitation of dragonborn's perfection".
Just sharing what I think I know haha xD
As always, nice video and keep it up!
Cheers!
In forgotten realms the brimstone angel series goes into the history and life of dragonborn with the last two books in the series (Ashes of the tyrant and Devil you know) taking place in one of the major dragonborn cities.
Dragonborn do have eggs and the female are known to breast feed the off spring.
Give the series a read or look over reviews it's rather good set around the time of the Sundering.
I'm playing as for Tyranny of Dragons a Crystal Dragonborn Horizon Walker Ranger. And thanks to the fact I got 1 free feat I went with Gift of the Gem Dragon to further play on the idea that when she hatched was born with innate Psionic powers due to her Crystal Dragon lineage.
D&d lor for dragonborn conflict with with itself so I say use what ever you think is cool.
In my games, Dragonborn hatch from the unfertilised eggs of Dragons, with common plain brown Dragonborn not having breath weapons or resistances, and rare coloured Dragonborn exhibiting characteristics closely related to their Dragon colour, especially PC personality traits and flaws.
In 5e player hand book it says Dragonborn Lack Wings and Tail :)
However if you take 14 levels in Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer then you grow a pair of wings at will.
Xanathars guild has a Dragonborn feat that has them grow wings
Za Blade Storm In XGtE, Dragonborns get two racial feats: Dragon Fear and Dragon Hide. Neither one lets Dragonborn grow wings. Now Dragon Hide allows Dragonborn to have retractable claws. But neither feats give Dragonborns wings.
They look weird without tails, so if I were dming I'd let it slide
I'm ignoring that and giving my Crystal Dragonborn character a tail simply because I prefer it if she had a tail, and it matched with the character art I picked which portrays her as having a tail. As for the no wings eh doesn't bother me as at level 5 she gains the ability to manifest wings made of pure Psionic Energy due to the Gem Flight Racial Ability.
black dragonborn for life lol
In my head canon, Dragonborn are produced by dragons much the same way that hens lay unfertilized eggs, and sometimes they hatch as an incomplete dragon, almost a Mini-Me clone. I guess most are killed, or ignored. Some Dragonborn make it to maturity, and become Player Characters.
Oh man, thats a little dark. I like it!
Thats super cool
Yes
Dragonborn was my first ever race i picked. However the lore i read at the time was the origins of dragonborn was that they were created in a dragons image the same way the christian god created mankind in his image. And that they were from a completely different dimension. Apparently according to what i read they were designed specifically as a slave race for the dragons to serve and build, and they grew a strong hatred to the dragons themselves. And i believe a civil war broke out causing some sort of doorway bringing them to the forgotten realms that being the reason they are rare to come across. But they definitely dont have tails. The color determines the breath melee attacks. Also determines if they are going to be good or evil. Metallic being good and standard being evil. From what i read. Again not 100% but ill have to refresh.
I always thought they would be closer to the Draconians in Dragonlance
Can't wait to cover Draconians on the show. The O.G. dragonborn.
damn made the same comment
Regarding dragon born mammories, Chris Perkins said on a dragon talk episode that they no longer have them in 5e
Good to know!
Booo! #Save The Boobies! #Tits on Saurians!
Good, if they hade them it would suggest that they are mammals, which seems weird.
I was curious what we're some feminine characteristics of Dragonborn, if not breast?
Miles Lugo stare deeply into the cloaca
this is my kind of character ;) great vid guys
They are monotremes like Platypuses and Echidnas
Dragonborns with tails? Where have I read where my Dragonborn chose The Heart of the Dragon aspect allowing "Anvil" to choose a breath weapon at will? Could have chosen Wings...
dang, I wish I was playing in 5th edition, my group is playing in 3.5 edition
I'm SO excited to create a ludicrous liche AND a legendary lion! Probably they hang out, did i mention the lion is also undead?
Will would like Blue Dragons and Dragonborn most! I have had back to back campaigns with edgelord Blue Dragons and that seems right up Will’s alley.
They are just dragon tieflings
In the official lore Dragonborn don't have tails
But I say screw that lol 😂
They look better with tails anyway
There's also the Unearthed Arcana Dragon Wings Racial Feat
It just gives Dragonborn PC's a fly speed of 20 ft
So I like to take that a lot lol
more like Bri-tea-nia lol, Awesome vid I'm glad I found it, cant wait for more!
Thanks man!
Dragonborns don't have tails! :D
I'm running a gold Dragonborn with the shadow sorcerer.
Arent these basicly draconians from dragonlance?
Dragonborn DO NOT HAVE tails
Could you do a discussion about the half dragons
In my campaign setting, dragonborns were a 1-50 chance of hatching from a dragons clutch.
In this episode we talk about you're bromies, wet feet, and awkward dragon anatomy
Actually, Dragonborn dont have tails, Lizard man have.
Accusitions Incorperated C Team has a plot around it.
"Dont go searching for female dragon born on Google image search"
Bruuuhhh u like... Why? Why read my mind 🤣🤣🤣🤣
These guys are getting a lot of details about Dragonborn wrong if you want to know the truth about Dragonborn go to the MrRhexx channel he has great video about the law and history of Dragonborn as well as all other races in Dungeons and Dragons
Yeah, I was surprised and disappointed. Just because you have a long-running series on YT doesn't mean you should get sloppy with the quality/research :(
Well, at least, this is an older episode, and I haven't encountered anything too terrible in recent ones.
Dragonborn don't have tails
"Dragon have trails" stopped listening .
Dragonborn dont have tales
