I bought my first motorcycle when I was 18 years old (1970) and drove for 12 years without any major incident. Not trusting the number 13 I gave up motorcycling at 30 years old. My dream bike at that time was the Ducati GT750 from the early 70's. I only saw that bike one time in the flesh and fell in love right away. All I could afford were various cheap Japanese 2 strokes in my biking years but they were still lots of fun. Fast forward 50 years since my first bike and one day while driving on a country road to visit a friend I spot a Ducati monster 800sie in someone's driveway with a '"for sale" sign on it. I did an immediate u-turn to take a closer look and, just as when I was 18, it was love at first sight. That was in 2020 (pandemic year) and I bought this gem to satisfy my "second childhood" phase of life. After only a few outings on the bike I felt as comfortable riding as I was in my younger years. I am a lot more cautious now when driving this beast than I was back then because I know my reflexes are probably a lot slower than they were when I was in my youth. This is my Ducati story for better or for worse.
Beautiful Monster man! Everything you said is 100% facts about this bike. I have an M696 and most of my friends, who own sports bikes, think im crazy for sticking with this air-cooled bike that makes 40 horsepower less than a standard 600 supersport. But most people don't understand the beauty of the classic design of the engine and how it sounds idling or blasting down the road, it touches my soul everytime I ride it. Few understand the emotion these bikes invoke. I do find myself just staring at in my garage as well lol. I hope to someday own a 1st gen Monster like yours. It's on my bucket list. Never sell her, and carry on.
superb bike and fantastic presentation :). Subbed. I also want to buy my first Monster for the coming season (depending on what I find on the second hand market around me), but I'm absorbing whatever videos I find about them. May you enjoy this gorgeous bike for another 20 years..
I bought a red '05 620 last year. It brings me so much joy. I'd recommend this bike to anyone and everyone. There's a Monster out there for every type of person.
That's why I have 3 Ducati monsters I am 72 and my 750 I have had for 24 years it is modified somewhat with hi comp pistons, bigger race valves, race carbs, programable ignition yes it goes very well.
I have a 1997 M900, a 1997 M750 and a 1995 M600, the 750 I have had for 24 years, the Monsters have good performance very good handling and very good brakes with a riding position that you can do long rides on and I have and will continue to do.
Nice Bike, I ride a 2005 Monster S2R 800, which I absolutely love. When I started riding in the early 90's the early monsters were my dream, couldn't afford one then.
You really captured the joys of that Monster 796 (803 cc). I have a 2012 (also with a beautiful paint scheme - your is bellissima!) , and the Termignoni (tear-mey-nyo-knee) pipes ... so nice. Thanks for the spot on video that captures the spirit of what it's all about!
Beautiful bike. The early Monsters were so different from the standard and naked bikes, even to this day from the characteristics they provide through the L-Twin engine. I wanted to get the modern Ducati Monster but the lack of dealers close by and the cost of Desmo service, I ended getting a 2021 Aprilia Tuono V4 for the same price of the new Monster. Can not beat the distinct sound of the Desmo L-Twin though. It sounds so brutal. Jealous of your scenery as well.
A Ducati Monster 696 is my dream bike and basically the entire reason I got my motorcycle license. Once I learn to ride my current bike, I WILL own a Ducati! So bea-u-ti-ful!
Had Monster 1100evo for many years. Black/silver frame, single sided swing arm with a slip on. Still miss it but my Multistrada is an amazing bike as well
What a machine! I have a 2007 695 monster which has basically the same engine and hp. Absolutely love it, and thinking of mounting a pair of those high termignonis as well.
The drive-bys were a great way to redeem those "other" exhaust clips! I'm looking forward to the Ducati S4 916. Super nice bike as well and I got to test drive it for my birthday! 😄🤙
Just recently got a 2001 monster 790, dark horse edition. This bike is carburated and it is basically straight piped!!😂😂 definitely a head turner, very loud but sounds super nice, people always motion for me to rev it!!😂😂
I am with you on the reasons why such a bike is so good. I owned my 2006 620ie Monster for about 2-3 yrs and would still have it, alas though it was stolen a year ago and stripped for parts. Mine was red, and with Termis and low kms. Loosing it broke my heart. Sadly , I just havn’t had the spare funds yet to replace it with another Monster. Hopefully, one day I will be able to. They are such great value for what you get..I keep looking at such bikes and I must admit I am quite keen on getting a 695 as they are all my 620 was but with a bit more power..
First motorcycle vvas a Gilera (49cc I think) brand nevv in the port of Brindisi Italy, from my mom for my 11th birthday. It vvas delivered to the quay vvhere vve vvere tied up and transferred onboard. No longer did I have to beg to use my 'pay' (30 Drachma a day=$1 American then) to go rent a Vespa or later a Honda or Suzuki 50cc to ride about on Corfu Greece, the rest is a history of a long and ongoing love affair. I am novv a very healthy and active, young 65 and just got my first Ducati Monster 1100 Evo deal sealed, vvill have it tomorrow ❤Love this video, have long-long lusted after Ducati, YOUR 800 is absolutely gorgeous in ALL respects! I can relate to your love of such machines 😁👌
Very proud owner of a 2000 red 750 Ducati Monster with MIVV carbon fibre exhausts right under my butt AND I have your exact same Arai helmet. I totally agree with you, the feeling you get riding these bikes is unbelievable, you just know you're riding something very special. Congrats on your beauty, it looks and sounds amazing!
🏁woohoo!! many thanks for reminding me that Ducati's are my favourite bikes. Ive been bargain hunting for a Vfr800, a Zzr1100 or you know, something more fitting for a 52 year old who's supposed to have matured and become more mellow , even more sensible. PHWOOAAARR HAAHAARR HAR! What a big fat pile of codswallop and wangfeckery!! Im having a big, dirty, noisy, neighbour-hating🤬, wheel popping, hooligan of a fire spitting Monster👹!! The biggest, and sweetest sounding one I can find!! ❤🔥YIPPEEEE❤🔥!!!! oh my! what a relief that ive finally woke up 🤸♀🤸🤸♂🤘🤘
Have you tried swapping the dash for another one and reprogram the mileage counter? I had one of my friends with the same issue and it worked. Never sell the bike! Take care and enjoy it to the max
Affordable compared to all the other models from Ducati 😅 The monster was recently changed, the look. Looks similar to a Honda bike 🤣 You didn't mention if your inner thighs burn or not?
Awesome video. I should of waited to comment until I watched the whole thing. Love the sound of older Monsters. They are just so pure and raw! I have an 2007 S4RT that I never want to sell. As for the gauges, check for loose pins in the back of the cluster. Does the backlight even come on? Can you see the needles trying to sweep? Possibly the gauge motors are shot. If all else fails talk to SOS Diagnostics in Oregon. They work on Ducati gauges. I had my gauges get fried from a bad regulator/rectifier on my S4RT. I mailed my gauges and ECU to them and they were able to fix it. They were not able to save mine but they got me a new PCB and programmed it to work the the ECU.@@SirDrifto
