Your teaching style is so wonderfully mellow. I’m a bit anxious when I’m trying to paint, and your voice and verbal imagery relaxed me. Thank you for posting these marvelous tutorials. You are so generous to use your time to motivate and teach people how to create beauty. ❤
Thanks you so much for your wonderful feedback Brenda... means a lot that my work comes across this way. You are very welcome thanks for supporting the channel by watching them... much appreciated 🙏😊
Thank you for this very useful study Dave. I’m very much an amateur at pastels but I’ve just been asked to do a portrait of a white dog but with very short fur. I’m going to do a small study first and try out your technique. I will also check out your Patreon channel. Thanks again and Happy New Year x
You are very welcome Deborah, pleased you find my technique interesting... it is a simple approach. Patreon is more in-depth look at what I do. Happy New Year to you too. 😊🙏
I've been searching for such a long time for a turturial for white fur. I'm glad I found your channel. Thank you. This has been a great help. I think I was overthinking it. Lol. I've subscribed and looking forward to exploring your work. 😊
Right on time! I just started a portrait of a white golden retriever and this video gives very udeful pieces of advice on a high quality level. Thank you very much and all the best from Germany.
Always great tips and useful techniques! Thanks for your time and effort to share with us! Hoping to become a patron as soon as I finish the commissioned pieces I have going now! Then I’ll have time to give it a serious study!
Thrilled that you are enjoying the videos Bel. You are welcome, thank you for taking the time to leave wonderful feedback ... appreciated. Look forward to welcoming you to my Patreon when its the right time for you... all the very best! 🙏🙏
Hi there... I do have an exclusive colour wheel video in my Patreon that covers that subject in detail. Joining my Patreon you get access to all my exclusive indepth videos on there. I initially purchased sets then I buy single pencils to replenish stock. 😊🙏
@@DavePortersArt Thanks but no thanks. I think it would have helped your site and you did ask what people wanted to see. You are very Zen and I think a Yorkshire lad too. Lots of free colour wheels too but I like your work.
The combination of blue and orange to create a grey is so brilliant I never would have thought of it but it looks so natural and nice! Also Dave I bought the full pack of Carandache pastel pencils and I noticed quite a few colors feel hard and scratchy while others are buttery smooth is this normal or did I get a bad batch?
Thanks for the feedback Josiah... using blue and orange is very subtle but effective for sure. Sometimes this happens if I miss sharpening the leads. I sharpen with a knife and if I just cut the wood off and miss the lead the glue causes a problem... I always find they are soft when I make sure I sharpen correctly.
Thank you for your kind words Linda, I have tried coloured pencils, I find that I cant be as loose with them as I can with pastels, also pastels seem to be quicker. 💕🙏
@@DavePortersArt thank you so much for your reply......... I use coloured pencils a lot sometimes touching up with watercolour.........can You tell me if you use fixative and also how to store them ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@lindamclean8809 you are welcome... I tend not to fix the pastel as it dulls the colour, I store them wrapped in glassine paper, or frame them under glass with a mount to protect the works. 🙏🙏

I would like a video on how to mix and use the primary and secondary colours. Also may I ask did you buy full sets of pencils or individual ones?
