Amber, this is THE most talked about GoT episode, an event that shocked, horrified, angered many a viewer and reader. There will be more twists and turns to come with this show, but this one was devastating. Here, I say, welcome to Game of Thrones.
Amber, just like most of the comments from other fans, THIS is the one we have been waiting for!! I told my wife after watching this that I would never watch another episode. I was done. I was pissed. We had a week before the next one. I changed my mind. Happy I did. There is so much more. Hang in there Amber. Love from TEXAS.
I think this was the best acting of the series by Michelle Fairley, who played Catherine Stark. You could sincerely feel her pain. Master class acting. And maybe the most shocking ep in the series.
You're a trooper. To recover and deliver your closing was a pro move. Amber, I was dreading your reaction but awaiting it with guilty anticipation. You did not disappoint. Spot on, my only regret was you endured it alone. We had watching parties, some bars hosted fan clubs. The night the episode aired some people were literally in the streets traumatized and trying to make their way home.
They were teasing the Lannister song “The Rains of Castamere” all through the season leading up to this episode, but most people don’t recognize it’s significance when they start playing it after shutting and locking the doors. The look of alarm on Catelyn’s face showed that she certainly recognized it and knew “no bueno.”
I appreciate your honest reaction. A lot of people strugle to continue on after this point but believe me, the ups and downs to come are worth it and Season 4 is the best season.
Seasons 5-6 are pretty good, too. Yes, Season 4 is a pivitol season because it sets in motion the rest of the series basically. And we get Episode 9, Watchers on the Wall. Another one that will wreck Amber. 5:25
I started watching GOT when everyone I knew was on the 7th season. My friend from work kept asking what episode I was on. When I got close he just kept humming The Rains of Castamere. Then when I heard the band start it all started to click. The shock of it made me go get a bourbon from the kitchen and I just sat bewildered.
Same here I would watch to episodes to catch up with people at work and they never told me what was going to happen but they wanted to know where I was at and what I thought. The good thing for me and bad for them is I didn't watch it for eight years I binged. 😅
In Game of Thrones and the source material (A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin), "The Rains of Castamere" is a song with deep symbolic significance, often associated with the destruction of House Reyne by Tywin Lannister. It is a chilling reminder of Tywin's ruthlessness and his approach to rebellion or defiance. The song recounts the tale of House Reyne of Castamere, a once-powerful vassal house of the Lannisters, who rebelled against them. Tywin crushed the rebellion, obliterating the Reynes entirely-killing every member of the family and destroying their seat. The Lannisters then used the song as a means to broadcast their might and warn others of the consequences of defiance. During the Red Wedding, the Freys and Boltons-plotting with Tywin Lannister-played the song as a foreboding signal of betrayal. Robb Stark and his allies, who were celebrating the marriage of Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey, were unaware of the impending slaughter. The song essentially served as a death knell, signifying that the Lannisters were behind the massacre and underscoring the theme of vengeance and the consequences of defying House Lannister.
So sorry for your grief right now, Amber. This episode is a game-changer. I mean, it changed the way i viewed all TV shows. The stakes, the shock, the despair. Nothing and nobody is safe from here on. But your experience will be better for it.
The Rains of Castamere: "And who are you?" The proud Lord said "That I must bow so low" Only a cat of a different coat That's all the truth I know In a coat of gold or a coat of red A lion still has claws Mine are long and sharp, my lord As long and sharp as yours And so he spoke, and so he spoke That Lord of Castamere But now the rains weep o'er his hall And not a soul to hear." The Lannisters' succinct way of saying not to mess with them.
A man’s word means a lot in this world. In one sense I don’t blame Walder Frey, except killing the mother seemed a bit over the top. But she walked into the man’s home along with the woman that replaced his daughter, and helped rub his face in their broken oath. The Hound saved Arya because, as a Stark, she surely would’ve died too, like the wolf. Amber, brace yourself. It’s a rollercoaster from here on out. No spoilers, but you still haven’t even gotten to at least a half dozen of my favorite scenes of the entire series! And that’s not counting as many really great heart-wrenching scenes, like this one. But I think you’ve come too far to turn back now.
When this episode first aired I knew what was coming. I had already read the books. But the show made it real. My fist were clenched. My heart was racing. I ached for Rob and his cause. It's twist like that, adapted almost word for word from the book, that made GoT a world-wide phenomenon.

This was the episode everyone who'd read the books was waiting for from the day the series was first announced. There were chat groups all about predicting how all the "virgins" would react...
When I first watched it as I followed GoT from season to season, I was stunned. Such a fine edge to take out people who were so likable. You could turn off a lot of fans. But every Sunday night at 10 PM EST , it was must watch until the very end of the series.
Greetings Amber Welcome to the "Red Wedding". Most people / fans felt the same way the first time they saw it. This is one of the most talked about episodes of the ENTIRE series. Viewership went wild for the next week and the whole break until the beginning of Season 4. From what most fans say, this version was tamer than the way it was expressed in the book. As a reader of epic fantasy, just remember that it is part of the formula: the more 'bad or tragic" things or the more obstacle that are experienced by the "heroes' of the story, the more intriguing and emotional invested the audience becomes., as long as it is cleverly written. The more the struggles that more "satisfying" the overcoming or retribution is enjoy when the "good side" starts its ascend to victory. Yes, take your time to process and regain your bearings. Some fans took as much as 2 moths before they were able to watch episode 10. According to some blogs, some people even waited until 1-2 before the beginning of Season 4, to watch the next episode. So, you do what you need to rebalance yourself.
Also, when this episode aired, book readers started filming their loved ones while they watched it, knowing how there would be some shocked reactions. It sort of kick started the genre of "Reaction" videos 😊
We've all been waiting for this. Welcome to the club. You'll always remember this day and every moment before it shall be referred to as the before times.
Aww... sweet Amber! The first time I saw this, I was as blind as you, and my reaction was just as raw! It's pretty crazy but any justifiable revenge for actions like this on the show is very much welcome! I think we all become a bit ruthless and allegiances will always be questioned. I'm so proud of you for making it through this episode. This whole show is not for the meek! ❤❤
I remember my whole face burned with anger when this aired. Arya being so close, as soon as she heard the music (The Rains of Castamere) she knew the significance it being a Lannister song and the reason she left the cart in a hurry.
It’s so much fun to rewatch the episodes leading up to this and seeing the foreshadowing… the most obvious is when Roose Bolton leaves after freeing Jaime and sending him toward King’s Landing - Jaime says to tell them “the Lannisters send their regards” (which ranks up there with “I killed Mufasa” and the best things to whisper in someone es ear while hugging) You can tell, in hindsight, there was a lot of subtext to Jaime’s release that leads to Bolton betraying Robb
This is such an amazing story and one of the only ones that kills off the most popular characters that you think will go on till the end , there are so many twists and turns in it that it does keep you so interested and focused on it to not make you bored of the story !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the team! 🤣 I remember getting to this point in the 3rd book and literally quit reading it for months after this. It’s DEVASTATING!!! And the translation to the show is one of the best cinema moments we’ve ever gotten!
I told you in several prior comments to "listen to the music". In Season 2 and 3 this song was sung several times, it was explained in dialogue, and even played over the end credits a couple episodes ago.
Anytime a reaction channel starts doing this show, I'm immediately thinking of S03-EP09, lol. I watch and check out how they're taking it all in. They 'just' think they're starting to watch a big show based on word of mouth and critiques and stuff, so I see how they handle the episode, like "Oh she's taking a bath...wait, was that her brother? EW!" and "wait, are they doing it?" I've seen some channels just outright shut off the camera at the end of this episode, some just sit there still sobbing not knowing what to do or say, but you(!) wow, you're pretty strong.
Catching up with Amber at just the right moment in the show. I feel for you so bad. There's no feeling like this. This show was able to make twists and turns like nothing ever before. I remember sitting for like an hour after watching this the first time in full silence. Mourning everything I thought I knew. Thank you for sharing with us, Amber. It's so cool to be able to experience the show again with fresh eyes through you. You now know what this show truly is. 💯❤️
What you said at the end hit hard. “Rob was just as honorable as Ned”. Ned said that Joffrey was the true heir to the iron throne and then lost his head. Rob married someone for love when he was already betrothed for the help the Freys gave in the war, and he lost his life for it. Not saying that Ned nor Rob were dishonorable on the whole, but the one time they were, they died for it. Never thought about that before (even after reading the books and seeing the whole series)
II knew you were goign to be totally unprepeared for this. The song was the key. The song they played was the theme of the Lannisters. That is why Catelyn got suspicious.

I once said of Robb and Talisa's love, "It's one for the ages. Enjoy it."
To avoid spoilers, I had to omit the words, "while it lasts."
I fell in love with this world. The people and their names, the place names, the dragons...
I think this episode serves as a reminder to hug the Robs you've got in your life.
"I'll find another one" is of my favorite lines of the series....the sadistic way he said it.
Hold on tight, the ride has begun....Let's Gooooo!!!!!
When I first watched it as I followed GoT from season to season, I was stunned.
Such a fine edge to take out people who were so likable. You could turn off a lot of fans. But every Sunday night at 10 PM EST , it was must watch until the very end of the series.
Amazing reaction!! As stated earlier this is where the show really begins
Greetings Amber
Welcome to the "Red Wedding".
I've seen this, idk maybe 50 times, but I still had a tear in my eye watching this with you.
Also, when this episode aired, book readers started filming their loved ones while they watched it, knowing how there would be some shocked reactions. It sort of kick started the genre of "Reaction" videos 😊
You aren't alone. We all felt the pain of the red wedding 😔.
Oh Lord, here we are! Hugs Amber! I was a mess after this episode and almost quit watching the show 😢
We've all been waiting for this. Welcome to the club. You'll always remember this day and every moment before it shall be referred to as the before times.
When the drummer starts the beat for Rains of Castermere, that's the Coldplay drummer
The red wedding is one of the most heart retching scenes ever.
Sam made a reference to wanting to be a wizard when he was a child, to Jon, in season one. That’s why it was so cute.
"The Reynes of Castamere" starts playing at the Wedding...
Amber: _"That's beautiful..."_
There is a UA-cam video compilation of people reacting to the red wedding.
Aww... sweet Amber!
It’s so much fun to rewatch the episodes leading up to this and seeing the foreshadowing… the most obvious is when Roose Bolton leaves after freeing Jaime and sending him toward King’s Landing - Jaime says to tell them “the Lannisters send their regards” (which ranks up there with “I killed Mufasa” and the best things to whisper in someone es ear while hugging)
You can tell, in hindsight, there was a lot of subtext to Jaime’s release that leads to Bolton betraying Robb
They warned you within the first 10 minutes.. beheading a man and almost slaughtering 5 puppies. This show is brutal but soooo worth the ride ❤
My wife was pregnant with our daughter when we saw this episode, she cried sooo much. Spent the better part of the night just holding her.
Who doesn’t love a wedding. 🫣
OK, I chuckled. 😊
The curved blade he's using is called an arakh, the standard weapon of the Dothraki.
Oh grl, I know u need a big hug after that one.🤗🤗 I dont know anyone who didnt lose it. It makes u angry, sad, devastated, furious, confused, etc. The Red Wedding is forever a part of every one of us who watch. Thanx so much, take care, Peace
