i dont know if you understand how a tv series works, but episode one is to connect all the characters together. Most of them havent seen each other for a very long time, some havent ever met.
Dany complimenting Sansa's beauty is a direct parallel to Cersei doing the same during the first episode. Can't say I'm surprised at Sansa being skeptical from that alone, false courtesies aren't cute, even if Dany was being genuine. Loved the reaction!
Well, and Dany is OBSESSED with everyone bowing to her, including Sansa, so it's immensely clear why Sansa would not trust someone like that. At this point, she can sniff out the power-hungry people who should not have power over her in an instant. She's been around the most power-hungry players in the game, and Robb and Ned both lost to those types of characters. Sansa's skepticism and coldness makes perfect sense. She might be the only one who can save House Stark from the rest of the players, while Jon's the only one who can save House Stark from the Night King.
Dany talking to Jon about Sansa: *“Your sister doesn’t like me…She doesn’t need to be my friend. But I am her queen. If she can’t respect me…”* Samwell knows all too well what Dany can do if not respected and bowed down to.

Not really the same thing. Biologically Jon or Aegon as he was named, is both Stark and Targaryen. But because Westeros is a Patriachal society, he is by law of the House Targaryen. Or he will be if it becomes known knowledge and not a secret. Theon, is by no regards a Stark. Only thing that "makes him" a Stark, is Aegons words. But I totally get your sentiment. But I personally think the ones who can make it or break it for Aegon is what his "siblings" will do or say. Bran is basically unempathetic. Sansa, not sure, she is abit of a mystery right now. Arya won't care what House he is of. Aegon is her favourite and always has been. Plus, now he is a Dragonrider, making him even more cool in Aryas eyes (She loves Dragonriders, especially female ones). I also believe that both Sansa and Arya knows. If you remember the scene when Arya finally meets Aegon. Aegon says something like "I am also her family." She responds is by hugging him and saying "and never forget that.". Implying she knows of his true lineage and to tell him when he finds out, it does not matter, you're my family.

Dany also needs to stop, and everyone else, thinking that she’s helping the north. This fight is EVERYTHING and she has no throne if she doesn’t fight. It’s her fight too.
I actually LOVE the way Sansa is behaving. Ever since last season she's like a young Olenna Tyrell. Some of her zings are epic. "No need to seize the last word, Lord Baelish. I'll assume it was something clever." And the way she grills Jon and Tyrion and Dany. It's awesome. Because she's on their side. She'll ultimately do the right things, but she will no longer suffer any bullshit and will call people out and question their every move, because she's had it up to here with dishonesty and hidden motivations and treachery and boasts and hope and naivety, at this point. Ya can't fool her, or fuck with her anymore. She's skeptical, pragmatic and cuts to the chase. Love her for that
Maybe it's because he's the three-eyed raven and knows about the way jaime has changed and the good stuff he has done but also about dany not being the true heir to the throne and the way she deals with people who disagree with her.
Sansa and Daenerys basically have a conflict of interest going on. Sansa is pissed because Northern independence is gone. Daenerys is here to subjugate the North. It would take A LOT of convincing to not only sway Sansa, but the whole North in general. "The North Remembers" is the rallying cry for Northern independence and the North will never forget.

Sansa is thinking about the here and now *and* the future. She needs to know where they stand on this. Dany is not someone she trusts right now, yet she is going to be under her rule. For someone whose been through her own brand of hell being under the rule of a psycho tyrant, Sansa has *every reason* to be suspicious.

Jon's parentage reveal being such a big deal means that politics is gonna be as important as the magic this season. "Don't fight in the North or the South. Fight every battle everywhere, always, in your mind." Sansa is doing exactly that.

What I really did like about this episode: Emilia Clarke was allowed to show many of her own happy facial expressions in this episode. I don't remember ever having seen that in the series before.

I bet Dany was shocked to find out that Bran knew one of her dragons was killed and now the Night king has one. That should at least make her believe in Bran being a three-eyed raven.
I don’t really understand people criticizing Sansa’s behaviour for the following reasons. 1. She’s seen up close what starvation does to people in s2 when she was almost raped because of a riot due to famine and poor conditions in KL during the War of the Five Kings. And again in s6 when Ramsay’s hounds ate him. They were loyal until they were hungry. There were scenes last season that focused on her preparing to combat starvation in the North and as a parallel Daenerys burnings wagons of food from the Reach after complaining about how Cersei had all the food. She could’ve taken it for herself to feed her army. Coming to winterfell empty handed is not reasonable. As the Lady of Winterfell Sansa has the right to question and critique her in a meeting that’s intended for exactly that - bringing up problems and coming up with solutions. Dany’s answer to being questioned? Intimidation. 2. People should not be forced to choose between their right to self determination and complete annihilation from ice zombies or dragon fire. But if that’s the hand they’re dealt with and like Jon said they should look at the bigger picture (at least for now) then Sansa’s polite but cold attitude is far better than Lady Mormont’s outright disgust and anger. Sansa is throwing shade for sure but she isn’t fighting the change in leadership (at least for now). Should she have smiled and acted like she was fine with it? Maybe. But she’s also been forced to play the role of happy willing prisoner and bargaining chip for years until she won back her home. Now that she’s gained some power she doesn’t want to be reduced back to the girl who had to pretend. She is Sansa Stark of Winterfell. This is her home. And Daenerys can’t frighten her.

For followers, the leader always has to be in control, otherwise why should they be leader and not someone else who might do it better? So any subtle questioning will make at least someone else look worse. Even if it wasnt intended that way. They could have discuss these matters behind closed doors, even thought that would also lead to secretiveness.
Seth Sansa spent a lot of time in King’s Landing where people threw shade left and right. She also threw shade at the Boltons even though she was in danger with them. I think she’s used to it as long as she proves her point. I agree that it makes Daenerys look bad. But if she’s as good of a ruler as she says she is she should be able to take it and answer her. Every ruler faces criticism. The good ones face it well. When Sansa questioned Jon last season in front of the lords he handled it far better in my opinion. I really don’t understand why rulers should only be questioned behind closed doors. Maybe it’s just me but the public should be in the know about everything and if they do believe their leader is incompetent then they should be able to challenge them. I guess it just goes back to why there’s so many problems in this world and why people continue to suffer. Feudalism doesn’t work. I *hope* that by the end of the show people see that and the IT is either meaningless or people get to choose who sits on it.
Sleepy Hannah lowkey lost some gangster points after being that shook haha Also on youtube they showed a line that was cut out where Jon said "It felt like he knew exactly where I wanted to go" (after riding Rhaegal)...... so basically Dany only has one dragon now haha Rhaegal is officially Jon. Also I think the three eyed raven ( I don't think it's right to call him Bran anymore) nows how everything is gonna turn out so he's just basically controlling all the puzzle pieces to make everything fit (Forcing Sam to tell jon, Telling Dany the night king has her dragon, waiting hours for Jaime to arrive)
My feeling as well, about the three-ayed raven. To me, it seems like he is playing chess with the Night King now. Moving (or genty nudging) peaces over the board. And we will probably understand every move of his and every stare he gave by the end of the show. It will just click in our minds "oh, that's why"...
This episode was the calm before the storm people. It had it's happy reunions and no big names died. Next episode the shit will begin to hit the fan i'm afraid.
I think Northerners don't play "the Game". The Northern lords openly question and bicker and argue with their king or warden. They have more in common with the Dothraki than with the Southern lords.
I think Tyrion will stand up for Jaime obviously, but i also think Brienne will stick up for him as well. I think it'll be interesting to see which side Sansa comes down on since she seems opposed to Dany and somewhat trusts Brienne.

The "welcome back" put the biggest grin on my face, you guys have no idea. I've missed this more than I've missed Game of Thrones. (GoT is basically my life, so that's saying something.) 15:31 "Waiting for an old friend." Me, just now: "Oh shit, he's waiting for Jaime!" Props to Brian for making that connection at the end -- I didn't make that connection when I saw the episode myself (thought he meant he had been waiting for Sam), and it seems most other people didn't either, with all the memes about Bran randomly "running into" everybody. He didn't even move around. He wasn't there by accident. He was sitting there all night waiting for Jaime. This realisation makes me so much more excited for episode 2 than I already was.
Everyone keeps saying the opening scene reminds them of Bran in the opening scene in season one, it was Arya that was pushing herself through the people and climbing up on a wagon to get a better look. Bran was on a roof and then was caught by his mother climbing down, it's the whole reason it happens to be Arya that the camera pans off to as the boy runs by, it's a throw back to where she was that boy once and it's why she gives a half smile when she sees him.
"QUICK! POP IN THE NEXT EPISODE!!!' It's funny watching this and some other reactions and knowing that the newbies have to wait for next week just like the rest of us.
Bran has a plan and must get the pieces in place to see it through. While they're in the great hall Bran will tell them Jaime saved everyone. He won't tell anyone about Jaime pushing him out of the window. Sansa is playing the game, with the North as her number one priority. And when Jon tells people who he is, Sansa will be the true Queen in the North. Daenerys would kill Sansa and many other people for the throne, and we've already seen that. And the marriage isn't going to be what we all think.
It shows she sides with logic over playing favorites. Even if you like Tyrion and don't like Sansa, if you can't see the truth in her statements, you're biased, period.

So I have a question for you guys. Do you all feel like Dany was in the wrong for what she did with Sam? From my point of view Dany was doing what needed to be done. She was faced with an enemy in war that wouldn’t bow down even when defeated and made it clear that they would defy her again even in battle if Cersei commanded it. So at that point the only thing she could’ve done in my opinion is kill them. And even in this encounter with Sam I feel like she was really respectful about it. We’ve known Dany to be a hothead. She is a dragon. Olenna told her to be the dragon that she is. And Dany is. But I’m that moment with it it didn’t feel mean or cold, it felt like she was really just telling him the situation she was put in, and as queen she did what she had to. Now Sam on the other hand is absolutely right in that Dany most likely wouldn’t give up her crown for her people though. She’s not as altruistic as Jon. But I don’t see that as a bad thing or even the makings of a bad leader, but hey I might just be biased towards her😂

What about the dead Starks in the tombs inside Winterfell, when the Night King arrives, can he raise those dead? Will the faceless man and Melisandre be back next episode? Cersei is drinking again, does that mean the prophecy stands? Hogwarts has lost a lot of weight, what's up with that?

I bet Dany was shocked to find out that Bran knew one of her dragons was killed and now the Night king has one. That should at least make her believe in Bran being a three-eyed raven.
I don’t really understand people criticizing Sansa’s behaviour for the following reasons.
1. She’s seen up close what starvation does to people in s2 when she was almost raped because of a riot due to famine and poor conditions in KL during the War of the Five Kings. And again in s6 when Ramsay’s hounds ate him. They were loyal until they were hungry. There were scenes last season that focused on her preparing to combat starvation in the North and as a parallel Daenerys burnings wagons of food from the Reach after complaining about how Cersei had all the food. She could’ve taken it for herself to feed her army. Coming to winterfell empty handed is not reasonable. As the Lady of Winterfell Sansa has the right to question and critique her in a meeting that’s intended for exactly that - bringing up problems and coming up with solutions. Dany’s answer to being questioned? Intimidation.
2. People should not be forced to choose between their right to self determination and complete annihilation from ice zombies or dragon fire. But if that’s the hand they’re dealt with and like Jon said they should look at the bigger picture (at least for now) then Sansa’s polite but cold attitude is far better than Lady Mormont’s outright disgust and anger. Sansa is throwing shade for sure but she isn’t fighting the change in leadership (at least for now). Should she have smiled and acted like she was fine with it? Maybe. But she’s also been forced to play the role of happy willing prisoner and bargaining chip for years until she won back her home. Now that she’s gained some power she doesn’t want to be reduced back to the girl who had to pretend. She is Sansa Stark of Winterfell. This is her home. And Daenerys can’t frighten her.

While I agree with everything, even that sentence, you have to remember that the follower dont think that way. For followers, the leader always has to be in control, otherwise why should they be leader and not someone else who might do it better? So any subtle questioning will make at least someone else look worse. Even if it wasnt intended that way. They could have discuss these matters behind closed doors, even thought that would also lead to secretiveness.
Seth Sansa spent a lot of time in King’s Landing where people threw shade left and right. She also threw shade at the Boltons even though she was in danger with them. I think she’s used to it as long as she proves her point. I agree that it makes Daenerys look bad. But if she’s as good of a ruler as she says she is she should be able to take it and answer her. Every ruler faces criticism. The good ones face it well. When Sansa questioned Jon last season in front of the lords he handled it far better in my opinion. I really don’t understand why rulers should only be questioned behind closed doors. Maybe it’s just me but the public should be in the know about everything and if they do believe their leader is incompetent then they should be able to challenge them. I guess it just goes back to why there’s so many problems in this world and why people continue to suffer. Feudalism doesn’t work. I *hope* that by the end of the show people see that and the IT is either meaningless or people get to choose who sits on it.

Also on youtube they showed a line that was cut out where Jon said "It felt like he knew exactly where I wanted to go" (after riding Rhaegal)...... so basically Dany only has one dragon now haha Rhaegal is officially Jon.
Also I think the three eyed raven ( I don't think it's right to call him Bran anymore) nows how everything is gonna turn out so he's just basically controlling all the puzzle pieces to make everything fit (Forcing Sam to tell jon, Telling Dany the night king has her dragon, waiting hours for Jaime to arrive)
My feeling as well, about the three-ayed raven. To me, it seems like he is playing chess with the Night King now. Moving (or genty nudging) peaces over the board. And we will probably understand every move of his and every stare he gave by the end of the show. It will just click in our minds "oh, that's why"...

I think Northerners don't play "the Game". The Northern lords openly question and bicker and argue with their king or warden. They have more in common with the Dothraki than with the Southern lords.
It feels so good to see that video pop up at 2 AM (in my country) after having to rewatch season 1-7 of your reactions in the last two years.
I think Tyrion will stand up for Jaime obviously, but i also think Brienne will stick up for him as well. I think it'll be interesting to see which side Sansa comes down on since she seems opposed to Dany and somewhat trusts Brienne.

Props to Brian for making that connection at the end -- I didn't make that connection when I saw the episode myself (thought he meant he had been waiting for Sam), and it seems most other people didn't either, with all the memes about Bran randomly "running into" everybody. He didn't even move around. He wasn't there by accident. He was sitting there all night waiting for Jaime. This realisation makes me so much more excited for episode 2 than I already was.

Everyone keeps saying the opening scene reminds them of Bran in the opening scene in season one, it was Arya that was pushing herself through the people and climbing up on a wagon to get a better look. Bran was on a roof and then was caught by his mother climbing down, it's the whole reason it happens to be Arya that the camera pans off to as the boy runs by, it's a throw back to where she was that boy once and it's why she gives a half smile when she sees him.

Bran has a plan and must get the pieces in place to see it through. While they're in the great hall Bran will tell them Jaime saved everyone. He won't tell anyone about Jaime pushing him out of the window.
Sansa is playing the game, with the North as her number one priority. And when Jon tells people who he is, Sansa will be the true Queen in the North.
Daenerys would kill Sansa and many other people for the throne, and we've already seen that.

So I have a question for you guys. Do you all feel like Dany was in the wrong for what she did with Sam? From my point of view Dany was doing what needed to be done. She was faced with an enemy in war that wouldn’t bow down even when defeated and made it clear that they would defy her again even in battle if Cersei commanded it. So at that point the only thing she could’ve done in my opinion is kill them. And even in this encounter with Sam I feel like she was really respectful about it. We’ve known Dany to be a hothead. She is a dragon. Olenna told her to be the dragon that she is. And Dany is. But I’m that moment with it it didn’t feel mean or cold, it felt like she was really just telling him the situation she was put in, and as queen she did what she had to. Now Sam on the other hand is absolutely right in that Dany most likely wouldn’t give up her crown for her people though. She’s not as altruistic as Jon. But I don’t see that as a bad thing or even the makings of a bad leader, but hey I might just be biased towards her😂

Couple of questions I've been thinking about: If Jon/Aegon and Arya are reunited, are Ghost and Nymeria reunited as well? What about the dead Starks in the tombs inside Winterfell, when the Night King arrives, can he raise those dead? Will the faceless man and Melisandre be back next episode? Cersei is drinking again, does that mean the prophecy stands? Hogwarts has lost a lot of weight, what's up with that?
