I agree with your observations. I flew EVA Air last December, 2023. Food was amazing. Top notch service by the flight attendants who are so attentive to your needs. Attendants who love their job and who loves to serve (not chatty as I have seen in some flights that I have been in the US) They are so polite and hardworking. The lavatory was so clean from the beginning till the end of the flight. I saw the the flights attendants cleaning it up almost every hour, as I was seated in the front row. A bit more expensive, but it is SO WORTH IT. With regards to the United Polaris lounge of ORD? Really?? What a joke!

EVA AIR is a great airline, and the service on this flight was excellent. If only they had done better at the boarding process. I flew EVA AIR 8 years ago in economy, and I found the food was a bit bland too.

I flew several times business class on Eva , I pre-order lobster before the flight, although the menus is rich, they do offer different from the menu on line before you board, the services is always attentive, much better than UA business class, Cathay offer non- stop from Chicago to Hong Kong , you should try Cathay , the services is about the same, except they offer more western style foods.
I’ve always had a stellar experience on EVA. We also flew on them from ORD as you did. The lounge situation in T5 is shameful. I like ORD in general but their international terminal for non-US carriers leaves much to be desired.
My only issue with EVA is every time I’ve flown from Taipei back to SFO, the flight has always been a minimum of 30 minutes to an hour late in departing. Other than that, their business class is stellar.
I think the only problem this flight has is the lack of a proper lounge in ORD, other than that, it's really good. I have flown 3 times on this flight this year. Food and service are just so good.
I took Cathay Pacific instead of Taiwan flights because they all take off in the middle of the night. I don’t like red-eye flights, but the service quality in Taiwan is really good.
I wonder if you can use the United Airlines Polaris Lounge for this flight in ORD? For the Filipinos that live in the Chicago area they actually preferred this flight since BR55 is timed to connect to both BR271 TPE🇹🇼-MNL and BR281 TPE-CEB🇵🇭 at TPE🇹🇼. The other choices for Filipinos in ORD are ORD-MNL via HND/NRT on NH🇯🇵 or ORD-ICN-MNL/CEB on Korean Air🇰🇷
For those who want the full EVA Air business class dining experience, you should consider taking the afternoon flights that leave SFO. You get appetizer, soup, salad, main course, cheese/fruit and dessert.
I flew them back in 2006 . At that time they had the original seating in economy which was nine abreast with what I recall was 18” width and a 33-34” pitch . So now a few years back they ripped all that out and have the exact same ten abreast 17” width 31” pitch as AA and UA. Should they qualify as a five star carrier when compared to SG and JAL ? I’ll reserve judgement until April when I have a mixed cabin flight with them - sfo to tpe in business then four hours in economy to bkk. Common sense tells me they don’t deserve the five stars .
In my opinion EVA air offer the best business class product in the sky .. especially when it comes to the cabin crew . Some people would argue with my opinion , but we’re all entitled to our own .. their premium economy class is very good too , but the actual seat lets it down a bit .. again the crew always shine ✨ in this product too .. 🙏..
Wifi is not unlimited? boo. Ill be flying this sfo-tpe-kul-kno rt this coming May. I was trying to book SQ but the asking price jumped from one day of 9k to 12k. I just delayed 1 day to book and the pricing jumped 3k. The lack wifi really is a bummer. SQ provides unlimited wifi.

yes... every time... our only airline we trust to go back to Taiwan... the service is unreal even in economy class...

It's unlikely that you would be able to because the Polaris lounge at ORD closes early (9:30pm?)

Thanks for sharing. Service-wise, I think they are ahead of JAL/ANA, which are seeing decline in recent years in my opinion.
