Tyler Casselman Well I originally wrote that I’ve long ago given up on using the Lockdown system for the simple reason that I’ve had absolutely no luck hitting the WhipUp. Thus all the rich techniques that flow afterwards are not available to me. From Flat Half Guard I’ve had better luck getting to Z Guard or Half Butterfly and then working for the underhook. But I love the beauty of the Lockdown pathway to get out of Flat Guard I just wish I could get past the WhipUp. But I noticed that your “Double C Cup” technique appears to be something I haven’t tried before, especially if I utilize the Pimp Arm to load him on my knees first. In Eddie’s Mastering Rubber Guard video he doesn’t use the Pimp Arm and he puts his hands on his opponent’s ribs to WhipUp. I got absolutely zero leverage when I tried this. I was doing it just like Eddie showed in his video but I got nowhere. He obviously left a lot out. Your video appears to generate the principled leverage needed to move your opponent to a sweepable position. One sweeping principle that Tom DeBlass emphasizes from the Half Guard is to get your opponent’s head above yours before you sweep. Your video clearly shows this principle at work. I will try to work the WhipUp differently by trying to get his head well above my head before turning on my side as you’ve shown in the video and see if that works better for me. Any other tips to execute a successful WhipUp are much appreciated. Thanks
Its funny you mention that because for a long time I stopped going to whipup because I couldnt get there as well. I have played A Lot of whipdown though... that became my new A Game. I have adjusted things and now I have a much much easier time getting to the whipup and completing sweeps or attacks from there. I will show the Whipdown next as I have put alot of time into whipdown. It is very powerful and nearly impossible to escape the leg once you whipdown. But if you stay too long flat on your back guys will kick out or go No Hand Pass. After you launch them from that double C Cup... its very hard for them to escape and you can go either to Whipup or Whipdown as you prefer. Make sense?
Haha. That’s funny you experienced the same issues with Lockdown system. Awesome. There’s hope for me then haha. It makes a lot of sense if you can successfully launch them up over your head. I can easily see all the possibilities once you have them there. The leverage to move them is enormous. Like I said my problem is getting them there. But at least I now have some new tools to address this fundamental problem. Thanks for that. I look forward to hearing more about your Whipdown pathway.
This is pure gold for me, I started bjj 6 months ago, and 10th planet game fascinates me. Right now I'm working on lockdown and electric chair sweep but could not figure out what to do when it fails. Thank you for that vid, it gave me so much in just 9 minutes 🤙
Its my pleasure man. Honestly its something I have struggled with a lot trying to learn 10p on my own. They dont really talk alot about what to do when things go wrong or what to do against specific common counters. Its more like A > B > C > D > E... but there isnt a lot of focus on what to do if things arent working at each individual step. Caused me a lot of hard times trying to figure it out on my own. Happy to lend a hand
This is such a rich tutorial on a technique that I find so lifesaving as a white belt! I caught you on Craig's Z Guard tutorial and was pleasantly surprised you're a great teacher yourself. Thank you Tyler 👍
Hello Tyler, very good technique breakdown and super options. I will be reaping this more in the way of a failed going to EC (the body would be exactly on the crossed position - head outside their arm. It was the first attack Eddie did on his roll with Kintaro. Anyways, as countermeasure, using after jaws of life still being usefull. I try to escape the cross face like the devil escape the cross. Cheers bro.
03:00 - Apollo set up 03:35 - Apollo control 04:15 - Apollo choke 05:20 - Butterfly sweep to arm triangle 05:50 - Scissor butterfly sweep 06:40 - Butterfly sweep to back take 07:15 - Butterfly sweep to the truck
Hello Tyler. Came back here to save this video in a (other) personal training list. Im still locking everything down and hunting for the Apollo choke more often than ever. Its proving for me that is a high percentage tech against smaller or same size opponents because of the arms finishing position. Im still training to get the sub on bigger ones adjusting the technique. Does the Apollo really have any downside against the bigger ones regarding the arms lenght to close em?
Its going to be tough to finish the arm triangle from the bottom. Play with it with bigger guys and see if you can find the right adjustments during drilling and then try them live. Good luck
The Lockdown system can be very effective, Ive moved away from it in recent years and prefer to play more Butterfly half. But from time to time ill go back and use LD
Thanks bro, appreciate the feedback. I would like to, but Ive got to wait until I get my brown to make instruction videos. But I am planning on releasing some other types of videos in the near future
@@TylerTheUke thank you man! I play lockdown variations all the time, constantly switching my legs under and/or over theirs. I have also found when they keep their heel up to avoid the lockdown, I use the inside leg (you called it the primarily leg) over the top of theirs, then pull my foot towards my butt for a calf slicer sub. Took me a few tries to nail the angle but I catch people all the time now with it. Anyways, your breakdown and options from this set up were mint. Especially that back take. Love it.
Im here cause I've been doing jiu jitsu for about 1.5-2 years and saw a clip of Jeremiah Vance talking about how important "lockdown" is and i was like "what the fuck is lockdown?" Haha Changing my world right here. I've got lots of work to do 😂
Ive rolled with Jeremiah, he is a beast for sure. Lockdown has been a big part of my game since my white belt days. Its a long road, but its a fun game to play.
Best Lockdown series I’ve seen yet.
Thanks for the info.
Thank you man, much appreciated
What was your original question man? I cant see the full thing. I'd be happy to offer some advice if I could

Man, wonderful lockdown series for when the electric chair sub/sweep or old school sweep fail! Can't wait to try this!
2:41 Apollo choke
4:08 key choke details
5:21 sweep into mounted arm triangle
Legend! I feel like lock down's a big part of my game so I'm gonna have to watch this 100 times over so it sinks in

electric chair sweep is a good counter when they post from an old fashioned and you can go to stoner control if electric chair sweep doesn't work

Thanks for the kind words man! I'll be putting work back into my channel publish video regularly!
This is some good shit. I liked the details on the arm-triangle from bottom. Gotta try that out!

Broo this is brilliant. I had no idea what to do after lockdown.
You saved me. 😁
My pleasure bro,

Dude. This is gold. Please keep making videos
Thanks bro, appreciate the feedback.
