It's not that sonic has a philosophy, he has an anti philosophy. He doesn't like to think or ponder too long about things. He doesn't have or engage with actual philosophy but it's his simple nuance that gives his a sense of philosophy. If you are looking for a character like sonic who actually has more of an actual philosophy on life, probably check out snufkin from the moomin series. He's more of a character who actually lives by a code and philosophy
I always thought "if you have time to worry then run" was a bit of a mistranslation. The intention behind it seems more to me like "The things you're most afraid of is what you need to take on. and not just walk, run towards it!"
I always interpreted it as this, if you have time to worry, you should spend that time on doing something productive or something that means a lot to you, which, in Sonic’s case, is running
Growing up i always looked up to sonic. I never gave up, helped others, and even stood up to bullies. My friends tend to compare me to him. They say i have a strong influence on them. It's a nice feeling but i don't see it. I just enjoy being myself. Ive struggled with that in recent years. My friends had my back tho and ive been holding strong since. For the longest time i had the hardest time leaning on them for supporr because i was always use to being the rock.
Thank you so much for bringing up the idea that Sonic has a Flat Character Arc! As a writer in my spare time, I can safely say that a lot of general writing discourse online seems to misunderstand the nature of Flat Characters Arcs, since the word "Flat" implies that these characters are poorly written and/or not fully realized, when they really are, but just happen to have found their "inner truth" off-screen beforehand and use that truth to help others find similar truths in their own lives. Like you've said in the video, Sonic doesn't have to learn any of the inspiring life lessons that we love him for over the course of the games; he instead teaches them to every character he meets along the way, simply by living his life according to them. Through Sonic, Tails learns to be brave (Sonic 2/SA1/SA2), Knuckles learns to work with others (Sonic 3&K/SA1), Amy learns to stand up for herself (SA1), etc. This even sends chain reactions throughout the games, such as Gamma learning to stand up to his own creator to free his "brothers" (SA1), and Shadow facing his painful past to remember his true promise to Maria (SA2), both thanks to Amy. This chain reaction even extends to us as the players, inspiring us to live our best lives here in the real world! And all this from a cartoon hedgehog in a platforming video game! Thanks again for the video!
The thing with the Emeralds is that, initially, it seemed as if each location Sonic went to actually had its own set. The idea of there only being one universal set of seven Chaos Emeralds wasn't firmly established until Sonic Adventure.
Another great video! Never stopped to think how, narratively, Sonic is very much an amplifier for other character's arcs to unfold Sonic is my friend and I'm happy he's other people's friends too
Don't just sit there and waste your precious time. When you want to do something, do it right away. Do it when you can. It's the only way to live a life without regrets.
That “nature vs artificiality” idea is SO SMART, ur genius man I met ur channel for Doki doki’s videos, and then I found out u has a FUCKING SONIC VIDEO, that’s so cool
I clicked on your vid off of nick’s server and I’m glad I did. I appreciate the Nathan drake mention especially in the flat character arc bit which is cool on it’s own.
In the classic series it’s believed that each island had its own set of emeralds and I believe that knuckles had taken Sonic’s set and gave them to Eggman and we are collecting knuckles’ set in game And afterwards knuckles returns the west side island set
But..One thing that don't make sense to me is the Storybooks..If he respect the life of you enemies, why he killed King Arthur ( He doesn't know about the ilusion stuff), he don't care about the consequences of your actions in Camelot (Merlina say how the story was going to End and he did nothing about it) and others situations..Some people said it's about the Western vs JP Characterizations..I don't know, what do you think? Other thing is about other interpretations of Sonic, like Movies, Shogakukan, SATAM, AOSTH, Underground and whatever..What do you think? They are valid? They can coexist?
I dub the OC...Jooos. Idk if that's been taken already but to give it that extra oomph, there's three o's so it's like "Jo-osh" or something. Logic works out fine, I'm sure
Sonic taught me to think and be more positive, I even began to make more jokes because of him and he also taught me to be nicer and he also made me think more positively about myself. Heck, many people remember me because I, like Sonic, have a colorful personality, I'm not trying to be charismatic or anything heck, I'm not even social but, I still leave a mark on people for some reason. I also have an attitude like him and I do have a temper despite me trying to be chill but, I am pretty hyper so yeah. I used to be and think more negative and I wasn't as nice to myself or others and I made MUCH fewer jokes but, then some stuff happened and I also got into Sonic a few years later and well, he really rubbed off on me hahahaha! 😅😅🤣🤣😂😂💙🔵🟦🔷🔹🦔
This is why people who say "Sonic has no philosophy" piss me off. It makes 0 sense if you think about it for 5 seconds on what that actually means.

Yes, precisely! Or to be more simple, "run" means just to "take action", which often means running for our blue hedgehog boy.

Well said!! Happy you enjoyed it ✨
Hope you enjoy the Gamma and Tails videos too, more to come in the future!

Yeah, it seems like it was changed retroactively and I never hear it being mentioned.

Indeed, killing Eggman would go against Sonic's inner truth. Because said inner truth is that he already died from a heat stroke a long time ago :)
Very true :)

Wow your channel has grown! Love your videos, keep up the fire character analysis’ bro 🩷

Amazing video and message at the end. I like how you interpreted the lore and selected the consistent bits of it all. Good job!
Thank you so much!

@@Purplemans88 Ahhh yes see this makes the most sense, just didn't see it anywhere in the manuals.

I saw what you did there putting "Die Young" in the 06 part. 😂❤❤
Hate how they make knuckles be fooled by eggman every game. It'so out of his character.
Sorry but if the old writers did it then it IS his character
Yayayay Sonic Time!
Great video I must say
Juss. That’s ur character’s name. Juss the JumbledMess
Hey, I do look nice today. LOL
We love to see it ✨

So just that with an extra “o”?
