Repairing a Dead Logitech Speaker System (Z313 FIX LOG)

  • I've just bought this speaker system and it went broken. I won't blame Logitech for this though, it seems like the cable is damaged and I broke the STBY thing while I tried to repair it. But I would love it if Logitech upgrades their product quality.
    The very first you should do when fixing something like this is to check the connections; is the mains wire connected right? Is this wire connected to the other end? If the answers are "no", maybe that's where your thing is broken. Fix it, either buy a new cable or just fix the connection using your ways.
    If none of them were broken, then you might want to start opening things, check the datasheet then test things to see if there's something strange. See if there's a broken component (maybe roasted, or something like that) and try to fix things.
    There's a National Examination for junior high coming, so I'm sorry that I can't do much, schedules are tight and I'm trying my best to come out with topics and make videos. As always, have a good day.

    Thank you very much for putting your skills and time into the troubleshooting for this speaker. Mine arrived fresh out of the box with the STNDBY issue. I actually think it may be due to hap hazard circuitry work. Either way, with my minimal electronics background I was able to apply your first fix, and my speakers now work flawlessly!! Thanks again :D

    Guys i fixed logitech z313 speakers by watching this video. Thanks man i really appreciate. The only thing i wasn't able to do is when i connect 5v IN, is to get wired remote control work (on/off). So i was playing around and found a solution. I've solder a wire from main board IN to remote on STBY IN(if it's called like that i forgot :D) and after that i had a full control meaning i can turn on/off speakers, volume is working and everything else is working fine now. I just posted this bcs maybe i can also help someone. Thanks man for instructions again ;) Cheers!

      Or just join IN and OUT on the main PCB.
      I did that on mine and it solved the issue somewhat (it keeps the speakers always on though)

    So the only problem I have with my speakers, are that the R speaker is way quieter. I did a little trouble shooting on my own, I balanced all the way to the Right and the sound was still very very low. It plays at full power out of the Left. Same model as the ones shown in the video, if you have any suggestions on how to fix I would love to hear them

    I had a similar issue that I just resolved, where the cable that connects the input/volume knob to the board had really deteriorated, and no signal was coming through the activation wire. Ran some 22ga black wire in parallel from controller to amp/sub and now the connection is solid, speakers are back to working.
    Wonder which wire will deteriorate next...darn throwaway culture items

    Thanks Kamili for this awesome video. I have the exact problem with my Z313. My input cable which leads to the volume and power control was working only after twisting the cable. Eventually yesterday there was a wrong contact inside the cable and part of it burned and smoked. I then had to unplug the power cable quickly. I tried to fix it by restoring the cable, i cut the section that was burnt and joint the cable. The led could now turn on when i press on the on button, but the input signal seemed not be received. Since this job needs more electronics background, and because the fault is similar to yours can i just change the STA540 microchip? I really needs yr help/input

    Hi! I got one z313 brand new. I'd like to ask you if is there a way to switch it from 110v to 220v. I would like to use it without an external AC converter. Thanks in advance for any help.

    • @ArsyadKamili
      @ArsyadKamili  7 років тому

      Well, there is a way. You can find a 12v power supply that has 110v ac input and replace the power supply that's in the subwoofer with it.
      The new power supply needs to have the same capabilities as the old one, you'll need a power supply that can supply at least 3A.
      There isn't a simple 'switch' though.

    • @MarceuDayan
      @MarceuDayan 7 років тому

      Arsyad Kamili couple minutes after see your video and leave you the question I opened it removing the speaker and found this power supply. But also I noticed that has a board with a fuse and others few components. I knew that it should have this PS so I was wondering myself if this PS would has two input wires, one for 110v and other for 220v, like others similar models. Unfortunately not. I can do tasks with the soldering iron but I'm dummy in electronic components, so I don't know which fuse and other components (except the PS) I have to replace. Anyway, thanks for your reply!!

    Hi Arsyad, my speaker had the same problem as yours not turning on and its the same model as well, I did what you suggested connecting a 5v power supply directly to the board and it worked, so the question is, when you did the step before applying the LM7805 fix, I did the same by connecting where you soldered the white wire (JP23) to the stby and it does not work... did you connect anything else? or I have to get myself a LM7805 for this to work??

    • @ArsyadKamili
      @ArsyadKamili  6 років тому

      Wait, so you've fixed the problem? The first fix was failed for me, so I did an alternative with the LM7805 method. If the speaker's already good, then I don't think you'll need to do anything else.

    • @KagerouXD
      @KagerouXD 6 років тому

      Er it only worked when i attached an external 5v power source to it... but the first fix you said you thought it did not work because you did not attached the speakers...

    My Logitech speakers are now not working at all. One day completely fine, next day nothing at all. I know nothing about the chip board and components, and after 5 hours of researching UA-cam and going to my local fix it dude, I was told just for him to take a look would cost me more then they are worth, so I just went and spent $800 on Yamaha studio monitors, and I think I'm going to sadly have to throw my logitec speakers in the bin. I did have them for 5 years and after my band broke up I got a further 4 good guitar cover videos out of them, so I got my $89 worth. Spewin it come to that, cos Logitech speakers are sweet. I had the z323 model. Cool video for ppl that are smart in that area though. Me unfortunately not. I came here for one last chance to revive my legendary speakers, afraid it's just not a simple fix. I guess it's R.I.P Logitech speakers for me

      Studio monitors are a little overboard for general listening. Unless you're going to be editing and producing audio, you might be better off with speakers that are made to sound rich and vibrant rather than sound flat and accurate.

    Issue I’m having with my z313 system is that my right speaker plays at a low volume, and even though the speakers labeled Left and Right, both channels are played on each speaker so it seems. If I go into my computer setting and try to lower the left channel volume nothing occurs, only adjusting the right channel will silence both speakers. I noticed that if I have the 3.5mm cable loosely plugged into the amplifier the right speaker will play at a balanced volume to that of the left speaker; but if I plug the 3.5mm cable fully into amplifier right speaker volume is reduced to very low.. Any idea what the issue could be?

May be you know how to fix such problem, which I coul do to my speaker. Thanks...

    • @ArsyadKamili
      @ArsyadKamili  7 років тому +1

      Try to look inside, and test visible connections with your multimeter, test the power stuff, check the output to the speaker (it'd be good if you have an oscilloscope), and see if something is wrong. If something is wrong, try to find a way out. It should be easy if you know the problem.
      If you don't seem to see anything wrong, learn the circuit. There's should be a main amplifier chip located in the circuit board, look at the name or number, google it, then learn the datasheet and how the circuit behaves.
      Now, if you look at the datasheet properly, you should get a slight understanding in what's wrong, test your hypothesis. If right, fix it. If wrong, try another hypothesis.
      p.s.
      If you're tracing copper traces with your multimeter, draw the result on a paper to make things easier.

    Thanks for this rundown Arsyad -- having the STA540 data sheet is very helpful! So I can avoid removing the PCB from my subwoofer cabinet, do you happen to remember the supply voltage to pins 3 and 13 of the STA540? I'm considering replacing the woofer and I'm trying estimate the power reduction from going from the stock 4 ohm unit to a better quality 8 ohm speaker and figuring out if any resulting volume and/or headroom reduction would be made up by the difference in woofer efficiency. I'm using active JBL satellites, so I can balance highs and lows without worrying about matching the satellites to the sub.

    Hi Arsyad, I have Logitech z333 its smps blown can I put a new SMPS ? Its writen 94v-0 E317641 ZR-01 I want to know IS ITS 94VOLT psu OR 12 VOLT ?

    • @ArsyadKamili
      @ArsyadKamili  6 років тому

      I don't think it's 12V because it's a 80 Watts system. But I can't be sure that it's 94V either because 94V is not a standard voltage number. You'll need to check what's the amplifier chip and maybe find somethinf in the datasheet, or analyze the SMPS to see what voltage it might have.
      Standard voltages are 12, 24, 48. If you manage to know what voltage the SMPS is, you can put a new one.

    Hi! excuse me I don't speak english so well, so i hope you can understand me.
    How are you supposed to fix that, I put 5 volts external and it works, but I got lost with the regulator, can I fix it without it? Or is it necessary to use the component? If so, could you send me the diagram to solve it?

    • @ArsyadKamili
      @ArsyadKamili  7 років тому

      A regulator is the best solution, and it's not that hard to get.
      But if you can't find a regulator you can try this method: use your multimeter set on to measure voltage, put the negative probe to the negative part of the circuit, and start testing with another probe, touch every pin you see on the circuit and see if you can find something more than 4.5V but below 7V.
      I don't have the schematic, but I think there's should be a voltage of about 6.25V close to two black SMD IC (I show this in the video). Solder that 6.25V with a wire, connect and solder it to the STBY pin in the main circuit board (STBY pin should be one of the pin that's connected straight to the control pad.)
      Good luck.

    Hello Sir, I want to remove the remote controller from this sound system, but how to remove It ?

      You can bypass the controller system by connecting the audio cable that goes to the control pad to go straight to the amplifier input.
      But you should remember that the amplifier needs a 5V voltage to the enable pin to turn it on.

      @@ArsyadKamili I've noticed that the controller has A/D converter IC, so what happens if I bypass the controller. Thanks!

    Logitech speakers are pieces of shits. I can't even get the screws out to take it apart,
    Logitech sucks raw ass. Don't even bother getting them. They have reputation for the wires soldered inside the speakers to come undone. Easy enough to just solder it back right? ...NOT WHEN YOU CAN'T GET THE DAMNED SCREWS OUT OF THE HOUSEING. And why do they have 6 screws?
