That is unfortunate. Mine is still going but it only sees seasonal use and typically when its cold out which helps. It is certainly built down to a cost and the number one thing that is going to fail is the zener diode based power supply on the input. This part gets hot and stays hot whenever the device is plugged in. Once this fails the device won't be able to power the relay to turn on the output. My guess is that is what happened. There is a teardown video I did of this, I had the intention of doing a video showing how to make the power consumption lower but haven't gotten around to that yet.
@@AllThingsOnePlace Thanks for the reply. I went to a new version as I went back and read a lot of reviews of this which says it just stops working. There were a number of reviews on Amazon talking about it. I will try a BN-LINK 7 Day Outdoor Heavy Duty Digital Programmable Timer and see how it goes.
Mine doesnt have any power going through it, any idea why? Also mine has a button between the arrows. All my blue lights are off, shouldn't it have power going through it?
Hmmm. I guess my first question is whether the time is showing on the display? It may need to sit plugged in for a while to recharge the internal battery.
This timer would work for any timed lighting setup (less than the rated current of course). The limitation of this unit is that it won't do complicated programs. For example it can't turn on for 40 minutes then off for 20 kind of thing.
The blue light doesn't mean the output is on. It only means the mode is enabled. A way to test if it operates is the countdown mode. You should hear a click and the output should come on when you push that button and it should turn off when you push it again.
It is, but each time is not customizable. You can use the preset evening time of 5PM-12AM, the morning preset of 5AM-8AM, and a custom on and off time set with the "my on time/my off time". This device mostly focuses on timing for lighting products. You can also offset the time by setting the clock wrong. I did this to get an on time of 4:30 PM and off time of 11:30 PM by setting the clock 1/2 hour fast.
This timer won't be able to do that. You will probably have to look at a "smart" internet connected timer to accomplish this. I am only familiar with the Apple Eco system but HomeKit can do this with a HomeKit connected plug.
In the tear down I show that the battery is soldered in. It can be replaced though but a soldering iron and some electronics skills are required. It is not user replaceable per the user manual.
That is a strange symptom. I will have to check the status lights on my unit to see which way indicates on. Could the timing be backwards? I would arbitrarily set the time to one of the preset values a minute before and wait to see if it turns on after that minute is up.
I checked my device and holding the reset does turn it on. Then release and it is off. The timers do turn the device on/off when the time is up. The blue lights only indicate what program is selected not that it is on. I would set a time of 7 am then push the morning button and see if the device turns on and off on each push of the morning button. If it doesn’t then it is broken unfortunately.
Yeah, people are having problems with them. I don’t know why I got lucky. Mine still works great, but that doesn’t help you. It is a really simple product and I expected at this price point it would last a long time.
@@AllThingsOnePlace Mine has the My Extra Programs button on the bottom right instead of the countdown. Past frustrated on getting it to work. Even when I think I have the thing all set and programmed it does work, lol.
Haha, yes, I agree. This is an early video and I was real bad at this, not much better now... Still fully a newbie. I can't believe they keep pushing this old video though. Every year... I need to delete this but I never want to delete a video. I like seeing the progression of progress from awful to bad, someday make something tolerable, certainly never good.
The directions are simple,... except they don't work. Tried every way possible to set custom times to come on and off evening and morning. This thing is overkill on the engineering and fails at its main function, and this video spent 10 seconds on the setup ("very intuitive and works great" uh, you didn't show me and no it doesn't) and a minute on the triangle screws. Who cares!?
haha, yeah, I agree this video sucks! But yeah, it real time captures my experience with this just working out of the box. You have to use the fixed times then can only set one custom time. I change the 'clock' to the wrong time to move the fixed times to something more useful.
It doesn't really have any programming, you push the button for preprogrammed times. But yeah, the video is trash for sure. Just an off the cuff quick one from a while back. Probably could go for an update sometime.
What do you think if I use it for an above ground pool timer???
Doesn't sound like a bad use case. Is this still on the market?
Great review but mine stopped working. The customized time was set but no blue lights? Any ideas?

Look for the reset switch. Five seconds in. [square]
After Christmas is over how do u turn this off so tge click stops running for the next year?
Unplug it from the wall. The relay is only powered when plugged in. The clock is powered by the battery inside.

@@AllThingsOnePlace yes everything seems normal other than no power comes through it unless the reset button is held down
@@AllThingsOnePlace yes. One hour. It’s in the printed directions.
And the R is a reset button.
I wonder if I this timer can be used with LED grow light setup?

I just bought this and my lights won’t come on at the set time. And it has the blue light, so i know it’s on but idk what to do

Hold down the resest button, then reprogram it .
is it possible to set this timer to come on and go off 3 times in one day?

I need to find a timer that can come on at 6 12 and 5 for 2 minutes then turn off
For a misting system

how to change the battery ??????

Got mind set. Thanks.
nice.
I even set the on off timer and it doesnt work. The only way i can get power through it is holding the reset button down

Amazing
Yeah, not much to it. It's a relay in a box.
Does it work on all modes
Everything it can do it does, it is a fairly basic device though.
Triangle screws?? That seems like overkill for a timer!
Yeah, evil bastards. I know what's in it anyway just let me take it apart!
These timers make great paper weights. Can't get the thing to work.

No ETL or UL logo, probably not a GE product
Ha, yeah, it has SA which I am not actually sure who provides. I might be something like CE, so, self enforced.

There’s a really good video on how to program on UA-cam.
