    The voice over explanation is much better and you learn more than just watching a video with no description.
    It's especially more significant if you are new to the model making hobby and are still learning, so you don't know what a specific tool is called, or know exactly what you are watching in the video, so the verbal explanation helps so much.
    It would further help to find a list of products and tools used either on screen when your using them, or in the written description afterwards.

    Hello, great presentation, everything explained thoroughly and calmly, including preparations. revelation. I have a question about the effects you create with oil paints. Can this effect also be achieved with acrylic paints, e.g. Vallejo MC?
    Greetings from Poland

    • @GeneralPelleScaleModels
      @GeneralPelleScaleModels  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi, first of all thank you for your kind words. Yes, these effects can also be archived with acrylic. Also it’s more challenging and the results may differ. Oil paints dry very slowly, around one day of drying time. This enables the modeler to work carefully and build up the effects I shown in this video. Acrylic paints on the other side dry (to the touch) in minutes and then they can’t be manipulated anymore. This means you’ve to be much more quicker and can only work in small areas part by part. Also you’ll need a different varnish, e.g. an lacquer based varnish otherwise you’ll risk to lift the underlining paint (if it’s acrylic too). With Model Color from Vallejo I would suggest a good amount of glaze medium (makes it more transparent) and airbrush thinner. Also you should invest in a retarder, this gives you a few minutes more working time. The technique is more or less the same then, but you’ll have to work with a different thinner solution, again airbrush thinner from Vallejo isn’t bad for that job. Model color is pretty thick color, so just use a little bit and a lot of thinner / glaze. And I would suggest trying it first on some spare parts before using this method on the real subject. So you can practice a bit and get a hang of how to do it with acrylics. It’s doable, but to be honest it’s much more challenging. This why modelers usually prefer to use oil or enamel paints for that kind of job. It just gives you much more working time and it’s fully removable when something goes wrong. Oil paints are also not really expensive, super-hobby (big hobby online shop based in Poland) have a great collection of it in stock. Give it a try ;)

    I wanted to ask you a question, at minute 25:51 of this video (in the first part you use it at minute 26:40), when you are doing the preshading with Ammo's Plw dark gray, I find the way of applying it curious, What type of applicator is that? It looks like a fountain pen, and I would like to know because you apply the color very easily.

    I have just found this channel and find it fascinating! I am a bit puzzled as to why the matter of size of model and overall size of diorama where not better thought out so save having to cut lumps out of what I imagine was a very expensive model! Would a slightly smaller scale model that fit without cutting have been better? RE Voice over, I agree they are better than sub titles WITH ONE PROVISO, It must be a human voice not an AI talking! I often find the mispronunciations very off putting!! Thank you, As McArthur said "I SHALL RETURN"

      Hi @notwocdivad,
      Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to share your thoughts! I truly appreciate your suggestion regarding the model size and diorama - that’s a great point. Choosing the right scale can indeed make a big difference, and I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future projects.
      As for the voiceover, I completely agree that a human voice brings a more natural feel to the narration. Unfortunately, my own voice isn’t quite suited for voiceovers, which is why I’ve been using AI-generated narration. However, I’m working on improving it and will definitely try to make it more natural and enjoyable for future videos. I’ll also be mindful of pronunciation to ensure the best possible experience for viewers like yourself.
      I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and as MacArthur said - “I SHALL RETURN” with more content soon!
      Thanks again, and have a great day!
      Best regards,

Leider bin ich aktuell mit Arbeit und der Familie beschäftigt, dass ich kaum dazu komme etwas für den Channel zu machen. Wenn ich wieder etwas mehr Zeit habe, könnte ich mir sowas auf jedenfalls vorstellen ;)

      @@GeneralPelleScaleModelsjaja kurze Videos brauchen eben nicht lange und die kann man auch besser vorfilmen falls man, wenn man jede Woche ein kurzes Video hochlädt, bei familienfeiern, Arbeit etc. immer ein Video in Ärmel hat.

    That, boys and girls, is why you don't pull a hobby knife towards your hands 2:36, you avoid boo-boo's to your hands. Overall a good model build, but most people that invest so much time in building a scale model to detail, don't take "artistic license" by alternating aspects of the model like you did with the coloring of the decking, making it appear more "wood-like".

      Well, that accident happen while I was cooking a gorgeous meal for my wife. But, yes, don’t pull a hobby knife or any knife towards your hands. It’s never a good idea. The deck was a mistake I admit, mistakes happen. Getting an artistic licenses for it was a cheap excuse, but I had to mention something, so people who also build it, and might follow me, don’t do the same mistake.

    There will NEVER be a horseshoe buoy on the conning tower

    • @GeneralPelleScaleModels
      @GeneralPelleScaleModels  Рік тому +1

      Never is such a strong word. They probably didn’t use it while submerged, but there are enough pictures with horseshoe buoy on the conning towers. www.pinterest.de/pin/2111131062534190/
      And yes, there are enough pictures without it. To verify if and how they used it, we would need to ask every captain of every German wwii sub. Which is obviously impossible. And far to much work for a scaler modeler ;) thus, can we call it artistic interpretation (and since border models put it there, kind of it is)

    How'd you get David Attenborough to narrate? 😂 The voice over made it entertaining, but seriously, it's good to describe the processes used, but not talk the whole time!

    While I admire the obvious talent you have for building, I wouldn't have finished the video had it not been for the narration. I often use the videos to give me background noise, while still being able to learn things. Had it been captioned only, I wouldn't have had the information, and would have found another video to watch/listen to while I went about my business. And for heaven's sake do not add that annoying bell sound that some youtubers use when soliciting subscription and notification, it's jarring and I will stop viewing if I hear it too often.

      Thank you very much for your feedback. It’s always super interesting and helpful to me to hear how people are watching (or hearing) these kind of videos. I for example skip more or less through them, if I watch others build videos. The way you look them is totally different and I’m really glad you enjoyed that episode (but, unfortunately, you won’t have so much fun with my older videos, sorry). I never use any sound effects, I don’t think they really match these kind of videos. And I skipped asking for subscribers in my videos mostly (well, one time in a 40 minutes long video), or do it mostly visually where it isn’t disturbing. Again, thanks for you feedback and I hope you also will enjoy my future videos (which will surely contain a narration again).

      This kit doesn’t include the lower part. But you can get the whole u boat in 1/48 from Trumpeter. . Be aware that it’s still very huge.

      No I don't want a 1/48 size. I want to go larger with a 1/35th. I guess I will keep waiting till one comes out.

    If you were going for a non commissioned U-boat look. We're the U-boat has been in dry dock for around 10 or more years with nothing being done to it. You hit your project correctly. But if this is
    an active U-boet. It would not look like that. The condition of the U-boat was very important to the crew. That was their home in the middle of the ocean. A U-boat crew would not have allowed their sub to get into such a rough state. They would not allow any rust on their boat. Even a minor amount of rust could have been missed and with the salt water. It would have grown and caused a problem for them at sea. Before you start weathering something you need to do a little more research about your item. You do great work but like I said a U-boat would not be in such bad shape if it was active. By no means am I criticizing your work. You do excellent work. I just thought you might appreciate knowing a little bit of history on the U-boat.

      Thank you for your thoughtful comment and the interesting historical insights you shared about U-boats. I truly appreciate the depth of your knowledge and your willingness to engage in a constructive conversation about model building.
      As a model builder, my approach often involves a mix of historical accuracy and artistic freedom. While I strive to maintain certain realistic elements, I also enjoy the creative aspect that allows for interpretation and personal expression. This is similar to how artists like Picasso or Van Gogh approached their art. They often diverged from strict realism to convey deeper emotions or abstract ideas, which didn't necessarily diminish the artistic value of their work; rather, it added a unique voice and style that we now celebrate in art history.
      In model building, like in painting, realism can be a goal or a starting point, but the journey can also take us into realms of what could be, rather than just what was. This creative liberty is what keeps the hobby vibrant and endlessly fascinating, offering both builders and viewers new ways to envision and understand history.
      Your point about maintaining historical integrity in models meant to represent active service is well taken and provides a wonderful reminder about the diversity of approaches within our community. It's discussions like these that enrich our hobby, allowing each of us to learn from one another and expand our perspectives.
      Thank you again for your comment. I look forward to more such enriching exchanges and hope to continue sharing our passion for both history and model building!

      You are absolutely incorrect! There are a number of historical photos showing active service u-boats with weathering from heavy use. They are literally submerged in the one of the most corrosive environments known to man. Think about how U-Boats were operated post patrol aircraft and radar coming of age. They were extremely limited on surface time, time better spent elsewhere than painting the hull.
