This should be the national anthem, not SSB. It's so much more melodic, lyrics are easier to remember, and it's about the natural beauty of America, which I think is one of the things the US has to be most proud of.
Singing about America being beautiful vs the flag (the principles of bravery and freedom) still standing no matter what war or adversity comes against it is a clear choice This song has less depth in comparison
I’ve said it multiple times, and I’ll say it again: This right here is THE definitive arrangement of America, The Beautiful. No other versions come close, and when I hear this song in my head, I hear this arrangement
Sorry, but I guess I didn't notice the signs posted in the audience, saying, "Any display of human emotion is strictly forbidden." These young and talented musicians deserved so much more enthusiasm than what they got from these dispassionate, semi-comatose observers. This stellar performance was certainly a moving and memorable experience.
That was wonderful. That arrangement never gets old. I played it in All State band in 1970. First chair, second trumpet. The horn countermelody at the big tutti on the refrain still gives me chills.
I Cannot Find out the Exact Expression for my Deepest Gratitude to You!! You are Such the Nicest People in the world! (I must Reiterate the Same thing to all other nice people.) (big laughter)
My favorite Band arrangement! I played it as Concert Master if The South Florida Musical Guild ( performing as ‘The Flamingo Freedom Band”). I loved the 3-octave run in the 1st Clarinet part at the time end!
lyrics Oh beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife Who more than self, their country loved And mercy more than life America, America may God thy gold refine 'Til all success be nobleness And every gain divined And you know when I was in school We used to sing it something like this, listen here Oh beautiful, for spacious skies For amber waves of grain For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain But now wait a minute, I'm talking about America, sweet America You know, God done shed his grace on thee He crowned thy good, yes he did, in brotherhood From sea to shining sea You know, I wish I had somebody to help me sing this (America, America, God shed his grace on thee) America, I love you America, you see My God he done shed his grace on thee And you oughta love him for it 'Cause he, he, he, he crowned thy good He told me he would, with brotherhood (From sea to shining Sea) Oh Lord, oh Lord, I thank you Lord (Shining sea)
And WHY didn't the audience give this group the standing ovation they richly deserved? Oh yeah, it wasn't 1980, like I and many of our fellow band members, lived through.....
Great to see other state festivals doing this. The PA All State Festival closes with this (or they did the 2 years I was involved). They would rotate between band & orchestra on who would play the instrumental arrangement. If the band is playing, the orchestra members would be singing with the chorus. And if the orchestra would play, the band would sing with the chorus.
Probably, all of you are Aspiring for my coming to USA and to Shohei Ohtani Wholeheartedly. I Cannot Find the Exactly Words! I Cannot say Thank you Enough!
NO girl friend. You use HARD MALLETS at the beginning, and hit the Timpani like you were in a head -breaking contest! That's the way I did it, back in 1980, each and every TIME!

I played this on the trombone in the 1982 All State Band. One of the highlights of my high school years.
My high school Band and Choir will be performing this arrangement, and it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
hey how’d it go??
Playing it for veterans day this year
2:47 gives me chills every damn time
Absolutely. When we played this in All State that moment always choked me up (we had great horns). Which makes trumpet playing a little bit hard!
This arrangement always gives me chills. Bravo Iowa All-State Chorus and Band!!!
Young people with great talent -- beautiful.
Magnificent arrangement by Carmen Dragon. And Dr. Blackstone does a heroic job keeping everyone together and in tune.
This entire band provides the sound quality of an organ, with each instrument being a stop.
I Cannot Find out the Exact Expression for my Deepest Gratitude to You!! You are Such the Nicest People in the world! (I must Reiterate the Same thing to all other nice people.) (big laughter)
The best arrangement I’ve ever played
The Choir sounds so heavenly especially in the end part.
Thank you Iowa PBS.
Beautiful,,,just Beautiful
2:24 is my favorite when they harmonize like that and 3:20 to the end is just beautiful
I have played this arrangement many times and it sounds great!
Merveilleux ! Magnifique ! Thank you USA ... ( From France )
0:01 --- 1.54/2:15 --- 3.43
Elevating ! Reminds us of what we should be ...
A most beautiful song.
What a tremendous performance of this arrangement! The best I have heard so far!
Outstanding!!!
So powerful.
Wonderful memories. I was in the choir in 1980. This is the arrangement that we did. Brings back all those memories.

lyrics
Oh beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife
Who more than self, their country loved
And mercy more than life
America, America may God thy gold refine
'Til all success be nobleness
And every gain divined
And you know when I was in school
We used to sing it something like this, listen here
Oh beautiful, for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain
But now wait a minute, I'm talking about
America, sweet America
You know, God done shed his grace on thee
He crowned thy good, yes he did, in brotherhood
From sea to shining sea
You know, I wish I had somebody to help me sing this
(America, America, God shed his grace on thee)
America, I love you America, you see
My God he done shed his grace on thee
And you oughta love him for it
'Cause he, he, he, he crowned thy good
He told me he would, with brotherhood
(From sea to shining Sea)
Oh Lord, oh Lord, I thank you Lord
(Shining sea)
1:50 is my favorite partttt
Wow. Such power
And WHY didn't the audience give this group the standing ovation they richly deserved?
Oh yeah, it wasn't 1980, like I and many of our fellow band members, lived through.....
Because the song is “to offensive” now. I’m just kidding. Just mimicking what other people say abt this song
Typically because standing ovations usually happen after the last song on a program, not the opening song?

good times
Probably, all of you are Aspiring for my coming to USA and to Shohei Ohtani Wholeheartedly. I Cannot Find the Exactly Words! I Cannot say Thank you Enough!
Dang they were so good it was shaking my phone😂 Any way amazing performance so much better than my band
The full version of this includes band, choir, and orchestra (though this is a very solid recording)
How about not only band, choir, and orchestra, but also ORGAN?
Awesome
ERRYBODY SAY MURICA KEEP IT GOING AYY, WHAT IS THE BEST COUNTRY. ..
JustKidding Joe England
‘MURICA!
This is the song of the American people. Not the anthem; that's different. This is the people's song. All of the people.
Jesus Christ God bless America.
Wow. Tough crowd.
Bland conducting of what can be a very expressive piece. Missed all of the tenutos in the score.
That’s so Beautiful!🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Daaaaaaahhhmmmmmmm.
Tony is that you? Its Anthony! Your younger cousin!
It would've been nice if they also include an orchestra group. Still, the song is great!
The orchestra has a different arrangement of America so it switches between the band and orchestra playing it each year
MURICA
I would love this to be the national anthem. But because it's so long, military morning colors would be such a shitshow.
I think that's him
Who wrote this arrangement?
+hbasic this is Carmen Dragon's arrangement.
I found +ChristopherBill 😂 in the trombone section
Aaaamericaaaaa!
Aaaamericaaaaaaaaaa!
AAAAAAMMMMEERIIIICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
NO girl friend.
You use HARD MALLETS at the beginning, and hit the Timpani like you were in a head -breaking contest!
That's the way I did it, back in 1980, each and every TIME!
No substitute for cubic inches.
MAGA.
