When my 9 year old son started collecting orks we had long discussions about what clan he’d go for and so colour scheme, a year and a half later we have a multi coloured army a yellow stompa with doors that open to a disco themed interior, to put the fear of gork and mork into any enemy who lays eye on it through the horrors or the battlefield, and units who have stolen terminator armour and operate as mega nobz , its bazaar, scary, and hilarious and perfectly embodies what we love about the green madness. It makes the game a joy to explore and think about what we could do next whilst staying / relating creations to the datacards in use at that time.
Depends on how you look at it. Personally I look at Bad Moons as having gotten the coolest detachment....then again that's because I see Dread Mob as more Bad Moons than Death Skulls (Giant robots, rules for shooting phase, TekWAAAGH is led by Bad Moons Meklord).
One unit missed in this video for Blood Axes is the Gunwagon; Kitbashing humie tanks with the battlewagon kit was so common with Blood Axe players that it was a staple to see as many Gunwagons as you'd see an IG army bring Lemon Russes. We even had looted Tanks at one point. Also Tankbustas are a classic Blood Axes unit.
This video just came at the right time. I decided to build an Ork Army last week. I just began with the hobby 1/2 year ago and chose the Ultramarines as my first army. They were fun to paint, but since the beginning of my new hobby, there was always a "Waaagh" inside me that wanted to come out. Last week I finally ordered the Combat Patrol of the Orks and I can't wait to paint them. Thx for your work. Your videos are a massive help for me. You are great😊
I feel this. I love the ork aesthetic and the lore. Seem like just so much fucking fun. The only issue is I don't want to be forced into having a horde army, as I tend to like fewer models.
That's what I thought, but it doesn't matter that much. Sure you have to build and paint more units, but that's my main goal in the hobby anyway. I guess if you are dedicated to a certain faction than painting loads of them means load of work but also loads of quality hobbytime. I hope this makes sense somehow. English is not my first language 😅
I went Badmoon simply for the color scheme. It really doesn't matter anymore, we can run mutli-clan armies quite easily now, it would even make sense for something like Green Tide.
Bad Moons, I always loved their aesthetic and the fact they're supposed to have more Weirdboyz than other clans (old lore which has been somewhat forgotten about). Also mega-armour looks great in yellow! Evil Sunz would be a close second, my army is a mix of both.
I started my Orks army in 9e with the Beast Snagga Boyz army set and collected mostly primitive Orks units, so naturally I chose the Snakebites clan. I recently expanded my Orcs collection with the release of the 10e codex and chose the Goffs colour scheme - with a few exceptions, like painting my new vehicles red.
Some more "old lore" and conversion thoughts... Bloodaxes is known for trading with humans so loads of imperial vehicles and artillery pieces that counts as. Maybe some human allies. Or human models as stand in for gretchings. Paint them in garish camo patterns Purple? Death skulls Are looters buy a box of mixed vehicles and support models on e-bay raid some old modelkits cut it up and glue it together again. Ork stuff always paint it so another clans marking shows under the blue colour. Bad moons everything is bigger and snazzier and yellowier. They are rich so a equipment heavy army is one way to go. Use lotas and freebooters but convert them. No nob would go without a mega armour or a snazzy vehicle or maybe both. Goffs also like big boomz so support weapons like kanonz is good. Snakebites make your trucks and buggies squighog powered. Burna boys may have acid squigs as burnas. Speedfreeks make all vehicles look more like power cars.
And badmoons i always like to make like they have colors from multiple clans since th3y get kicked out of them with shinier stuff because it looks flashy. I always paint multiple colors on armor and clothes and somwtimes paint little addons to thwir colthes to make em look flashy
EVIL SUNZ: In the Disney movie, lilo and stitch, when discussing how Stitch escaped, one of the Galactic Policeman says "He took the RED one." In my 40K warped mind this is clearly a reference to the "Red Ones Go Fasta" rule. GOFFs: The Police here in Chicago (and London I believe) use the same checkered pattern on their hats. Now, I'm not comparing our Police to the brutal Ork race, but.... BLOOD AXE: This is the one for me! When I read that this clan "worked with hummies and even traded with 'em." I was sold! This opened so many Kit-Bashing opportunities in my mind. First, I put Space Marine back packs and gave bolters to a squad of boyz. Then I built a looted wagon from an American M-2 half-track I had laying around. FREEBOOTERS: Who doesn't love Pirates.
Ork Waghs entail multiple clans usually so it's lore accurate to have multiple clans in your army. For game purposes how you paint your army doesn't matter. What detachment you pick does.
I chose Death Skulls because they were the most fun to model I can get a vehicle from any faction, slap wheels and Orky Glyphs to it, and call it a new Ork Turkk/Battlewagon/Deff Dredd Even my Flash Gitz use looted weaponry that I converted And being blue is lucky too
My personal army is a mix of clans primarily Blood Axes, Snakebites, and Death Skulls hanging out in the woods and ruins of a battle-scarred Imperial forest world on the wrong side of the Great Rift.
I wonder if there're any plans for Codex Supplements for things like Bad Moons and Freebooters later down the line. It just seems very strange to release Uftak and kick Badrukk to Legends, coupled with such a conspicuous lack of suitable detachments for them. My own personal Bad Moons have lots of flash, so they run as Speed Freeks with lots of expensive Kustom buggies, Dread Mob or Bully Boyz as the whim takes them. For Rebel Grots, running Da Red Gobbo as Zodgrod is a must. A super-tough Grot leading an elite force of Grot stormtroopers is just too funny to not do.

I feel like a vanguard spearhead equivalent would be fine for orks, especially when they've got a detachment that allows INV 5+ on all boyz and you can still attach a painboy for fnp 5's. A purple boyz detachment with enough defensives would be a good lesson to some players that going all in on anti-elite threats can still lose when you physically can't msuter enough firepower to kill 120 boyz on points.
I have played only Deff Skullz, and that started was in the early 90s. As they are right now, don't choose them. Their not Death Skulls any more. They are to be master looters. So what did or do they loot? No looted tanks. The "Loota" look dumb as shit, as their weapons don't look looted. Our only notable character went to legends. If you are into tournaments, you will need to take from other clans to meet the meta. If you want to paint the orks a nice blue, then go ahead. but if you want to have a Death Skulls clan, and have Deff Skullz...that is not going to happen. Just a thought.
The most important thing to remember if you're thinking about getting into Orks; none of this matters unless you're into it. You want bright pink armour? Do it. You want a thematic Evil Sunz army? You got it boss. Embrace your inner ork by doing whatever you like, you're not going to get some dork telling you you're doing it wrong.
I'm still personally glad they didn't make an Ork shooting detachment. Orls basically never killing a single foe with a shoota is a meme hill I'm comfortable dying on, so if they had made a detachment dedicated to pushing up the efficiency of BS5 hooligans who aren't just using them to make noise, as they close for melee, I would have considered that a shame. Of course, I don't collect Orks, and I get wanting the best efficiency for whatever faction one collects, but I, at least, can afford this opinion.😊 I'm honestly not sure what I would want to have. I like their bikes, though it still offends me that Orks, Chaos, and probably even two divergent Chapters (Space Wolves and Dark Angels), ALL get to be better Bikers than the meme-dedicated Biker Chapter of Space Marines, which seemingly annoys me, and I'm a fan of Storm Boyz, and Meganobz, so I'd probably either do Speed Freaks, with the full red paint schemes, or Bully Boyz, but still sneak in a few of the other "important" Ork colors, like blue, or purple, when they can fit. I get tired of Orky memes, though, so I'd probably try to paint them up to represent the more clever, or militant, factions among them, instead of the ones that are more rightly Orky, because I hear enough of that online, as is.
I don't even consider fluff anymore. After Mike Brooks boiled real world politics (and insane ones at that) into official Gdubs lore, the flavor was tainted.
Believe it or not, I actually go for speedfreek freebooterz. It's a good kombo, especially when you got a boss on a bike and base the theme on cowboys, raiders, and outlaw bikers/hot rodders rather than pirates.
You know that feeling when you are thinking about something, and Auspex just makes a video about it

Does anyone have any good freebooter heads recommendations ?
I'm still personally glad they didn't make an Ork shooting detachment. Orls basically never killing a single foe with a shoota is a meme hill I'm comfortable dying on, so if they had made a detachment dedicated to pushing up the efficiency of BS5 hooligans who aren't just using them to make noise, as they close for melee, I would have considered that a shame. Of course, I don't collect Orks, and I get wanting the best efficiency for whatever faction one collects, but I, at least, can afford this opinion.😊
I'm honestly not sure what I would want to have.
Easy answer: none of them, because I'm not playing Games Wokeshop anymore
Personally I think Orks have lost a lot of flavor with the detachments, most clans aren't really represented.
