Slaanesh will always be my favorite chaos god for what she represents. I don’t mean funny “haha sex and drugs” Slaanesh is supposed to represent excess, passion, pleasure, obsession. Yeah, sex can and is a part of that. But it should really be different depending on the person. Slaanesh takes what you find pleasurable, and cranks it up to 100. But at the end of the day, it’s what YOU find enjoyable. In the world of 40K, that’s an interesting concept. It’s such a miserable setting and you have a chaos god going “hey, do what you like to do”. It’s not like Khorne where it’s just fight and murder that corrupts you. Nurgle where it’s just peepee poopoo and you effectively have to be forced to join. Tzeentch where it’s just a complete mess cause “I knew the outcome all along” or some shit but you like magic so you have to deal with him. Slaanesh doesn’t have to sell you on anything. It’s just, “you want to do that? Then do it”. The main way Slaanesh corrupts you is to just reveal your deepest desires that you didn’t even know you had, but they’re still your desires. It upsets me that GW and Black Library literally give zero lore for Slaanesh and her followers because they want to avoid sex and drugs, (But Nurgle body horror and Daemonculaba are okay I guess), when she’s so much more than those two concepts. That’s why I hope when EC come out there’s some real variety in their appearance. There should be clean pristine sword duelists, cranked up drug fueled berserkers, super obese glutton space marines, noise marines, etc. They shouldn’t all be the same because they shouldn’t all have the same passion. But this is GW, I’m used to being let down.

Night Lords and Thousand Sons are my favorites. The Night Lords series was amazing and I love the look of the Thousand Sons. Ahriman is also an interesting Character with a ton of lore. Scrab Occult Terminators are great models.
I started with Thousand Sons based purely on their style, especially the Scarab Occult Terminators, back when I knew next to nothing about 40K. After listening to the first book in the Night Lords series, I now want a NL Kill Team, and to finish the rest of the NL series.
Started with CSM (Black Legion Style), then Thousand Sons and now are doing World Eaters with Death Guard models already on my pile waiting. Hope for Emperors Children next. ^^
As someone who's main strategy for their CSM is loads of Legionnaires in Rhinos and is Red Corsair themed, I'm at home with the Codex. I'm getting a Mastodon to really spec into the pirates in space theme.
The word bearers are nor represented by pact bound zealots as it goes completely against the word bearers lore. While there are some among the legion who are devoted to one god those are rare as the legion looks down upon those who devote themselves to one god.
@@cadettrev762 The undivided legions have similar sized fanbases as the god specific ones so even though they're under the broader CSM codex they should be held to the same standard as Deathguard, Tsons and WE in regards to keeping the theme.
I’m still working on 3D printing myself a Night Lords army. I won’t be able to take it to any tournaments but the money I’ll save is worth it lol Originally I wanted to do Night Lords out of the sheer irony of also being a Salamanders player, but honestly the more I read about them the more I like them. as i saw Huron did not go the way of legends i had to convert a model of him. as for what legion/warband you can make whatever you want, there are also Chaos followers of most loyalist chapters. i got Fallen and Cypher as some of my CSM converted from old Dark angels models. and then i use the homebrew warband of Brethren of hel a warband of fallen Iron Hands.
I'm planning to start Emperor's Children, but I can't until we get the index. The other three god specific legions are missing a bunch of units from normal CSM, so I'm conflicted on whether or not I want to risk buying one of the battleforces and immediately discover that I have to give 75% of it to a friend.
It's hard to get ahold of those battleforce boxes anyway. I'd say if you're gonna do anything right now, figure out where you are going to source your noise marines from. The GW upgrades are not good quality, especially for what they're charging. 3D printing is a very good option here, but the quality there varies a lot too. We'll get something eventually but it might be two years before we see it.
Been trying to build a WB army for years. Will get it finished then go xeno or imperium (I'm sick of trim and the bangles) and return to build one or two small other chaos forces
Word Bearers here, but I probably won’t use Pact Bound Zealots since it’s not actually appropriate to the fluff of the legion. Maybe the renegades detachment is more appropriate for them.

The generic Chaos legion is my favorite. Just wish it could be easier to make it all Iron Warrios or Night Lords. Everything modeled after corrupted Black Legion. The non demon looking ones like IW, NL, and Alpha Legion got screwed. Atleast it works well for Word Bearers
I love that the intro lists of Iron Warriors, World Eaters, and Thousand Sons, but the thumbnail only shows the thousand son. The other two are an Iron hand and Word Bearer
Love word bearers, not a fan of the detachment Same with Iron Warriors Probably going to pick Renegade Raiders because the obscure Iron Warriors warband I picked from the lore is called the 7th Assault Company, and the dread talons is kinda lame (along with the idea of jump pack IW)

I chose Death Guard. Originally I went with them because they seemed like the most wretched of the chaos legions, but what I’ve grown to love about them is the amount of character put into each sculpt. There are tons of unique characters and each plague marine and terminator has his own special little cursed mutation. My aspiration is to field a full army of death guard without any duplicte sculpts

If i was to start a chaos army, it would be world eaters/khorne demons or Iron warriors, depending on how good Perturabo s lore and appearance is when he returns.
Just scored Veterans of the Long War!! Honestly didnt think id get to start chaos this soon! Just got Leviathan a month or so ago and put all those space marines together whilst listening to 40K lore and well we all know how that goes……I’ve decided to code switch before even playing my first game lol. Maybe i just like glueing these little dooders together. Anyway ive already got my army painter matt black plus pot of Balthazar gold and pot of retributor armor. All i need for a black legion lol
Actually Word Bearers were first among traitors, who manipulated Horus Lupercal to turn to Chaos. On top of this, the way pact is , you end up picking slannesh nurgle and undivided and toss out Khorne and tzeentch marks. They should be all undivided and allowed to use the first portion of Strats and the second portion of led by an hq. The only time the unit should have a specific mark to a gif is if the hq gets a weapon marked by a god.
If I didn’t have three separate piles of boxes and primed miniatures, I’d convert my old first born space wolves into a Red Corsairs warband. We need rules for Sons of Malice!
started an EC army for my second force around start of covid, been waiting forever for their new codex thats been rumoured f-or-ever! whole thing stalled during covid and subsequent moves, and job changes. at least i was smart and focused on basic units from the old chaos apocalypse box and converting them all in to kit bashed noise marines using third party weapon kits. im expecting Bile to rejoin his legion when Fulgrim returns, i have a feeling the new EC models are going to be primaris/chaos perfection, and im left wondering if the greater possessed might be the EC's prmarised versions of them
Choose what looks better aesthetically. Remember warhammer is a modelling hobby first and a wargame second. Rules change what is good today is bad tomorrow. Coolness is eternal
I would choose renegades and paint them in varous colour schem for veteran of the long war or as renegade raider detachment for in the theme of 40k equivent of 30k traitor's blackshield . As much as i like Nightlord stories there rules for dread talon rely too much on the opponent failing their battleshock test roles depending on the army . As some armies are better at this and can negate what the dread talon detachment excel at for rules. When it come to renegades their stories are interesting to read why they turn traitor to be a renegade or why their formerly loyal SM chapter serve Abaddon now. One thing i like about renegade stories is the sense of individualism despite many of them eventually betraying the Imperium for a common reason among renegades in the Black legion.
I am going to be building mine as wordbearers, as I enjoy their theming in contrast with my other armies, black Templars, and necrons. So I have the two extreme ends of fanatics and then the robots who forged the bodies of their “gods” and then enslaved them after revolting.
It crushes me that I've decided to finally get into Warhammer and I find out everywhere I look that the Alpha Legion just has no support in 40k rules. Worse even they function as "chaos" Space Marines/models despite not having nearly as much interaction with the warp/chaos as any of the other legions to have as many mutations/daemonic units in their roster. I'm supposed to use a Hellbrute instead of a dreadnought (contemptor or not) all because GW doesn't think Chaos should have dreadnoughts? Wtf?! Hopefully they get a codex eventually but till then I'm painting my MKVI armor to be my eventual Alpha Legion army for Horus Heresy AND 40k. And I'll just run the Horus Heresy Alpha Legion codex in any friendly games I might get into, even if it's in a 40k game. Because if Imperials get to have Primaris Marines, Dreadnoughts, and every flavor of unit GW keeps breast-feeding them, then my "Chaos" Alpha Legion gets Horus Heresy Era-equipment, as it is in the lore.
so sorry ….i am a noob a bit on the delay side… unable to decide as of yet … reading into the LORE to help the decision… 1-The Talon Of Horus 2-Black Legion 3-Word Bearers (Omnibus) Once read I will decide. in the meantime… LET THE GALAXY BURN.
I’ve been loving my Thousand Sons since 9th edition and it’s mid tier codex. They are my legion. The CSM codex has been a distraction but I haven’t purchased anything
im trying too collect so every team in my legion is a diffrent space marine chapter. so far i have black legion, word bearers alpha and then soon some nightlords XD
I have a Fellhammer question. So I realize there's a wide gulf between casual play and highest level professional play. Your mileage may vary with the detachment. But how do we *know* it isn't competitively viable before it's been put into practice? Are people's ability to conceive and visualize good enough to know what'll work on that level and what won't? And do we think GW designs these detachments to work on different levels? Is Fellhammer supposed to be casual/narrative? Or do they just base these rules on lore and some of it turns out to be broken enough to get you to the top tables?
My firstborn dark angels are now going to turn to chaos as fallen renegade raiders. All my first born ravenwing will continue to ride and crush the imperium that turned their backs on the original space marines
Started collecting Space Wolves and plan to use my troops for Deathwatch and Space Wolves in the short term....in the primer black and proxies to play and learn the game
It was released in one of those Kill Team big box sets, they've not released them separately yet but hopefully they will soon as they've done for other kill teams
Like the other response said it was released in Kill Team nightmare. It still needs to release separately. It likely won't be sold as an upgrade frame, instead only being purchasable with Legionaries in a kill team box.
Pretty sure the Black Legion claims not to be a continuation of the Sons of Horus. While mostly made up of that legion, they except any traitors who will serve Abbadon.

I tend to lean into Death Guard, in my humble opinion I dare say they have some of the most unique and amazing designs.
Crimson Slaughter 😈. But if we’re talking non renegades it has to be Word Bearers! Deamon possessed things are so fucking cool.
I chose the Invocators, I really liked the lore of their doomed crusade that served them up to chaos directly
The Black Legion, for Horu's Legacy!
Skyrar's dark wolves sound's like a good idea.
If I didn’t have three separate piles of boxes and primed miniatures, I’d convert my old first born space wolves into a Red Corsairs warband.
We need rules for Sons of Malice!
started an EC army for my second force around start of covid, been waiting forever for their new codex thats been rumoured f-or-ever! whole thing stalled during covid and subsequent moves, and job changes. at least i was smart and focused on basic units from the old chaos apocalypse box and converting them all in to kit bashed noise marines using third party weapon kits.
im expecting Bile to rejoin his legion when Fulgrim returns, i have a feeling the new EC models are going to be primaris/chaos perfection, and im left wondering if the greater possessed might be the EC's prmarised versions of them
I like the Creations of Bile, mostly because I love the lore.
WORDS BEARERS FOR LIFE 😤😤😤 THE EMPEROR OWES MY WARBAND $20
Cries in Sons of Malice for being forgotten....AGAIN
Who?
@@thedankengine4842 Fair
I chose red corsairs with men of iron proxies for their helbrutes and chaos prince with a kitbashed Huron blackheart XD
Which of these are best in terms of painting for a beginner?
One thing i like about renegade stories is the sense of individualism despite many of them eventually betraying the Imperium for a common reason among renegades in the Black legion.
a bit sad to not see the dark angels being mentionned...
although part of them was with the fallen...
Iron Warriors. "Because screw you!!" That and they are just oddly relatable lol
Problem with night lords, you would need a fortune to outfit more than 2 squads
Pretty sure the Crimson Slaughter were driven mad by Tzeentch not Khorne.
so sorry ….i am a noob
a bit on the delay side…
unable to decide as of yet …
reading into the LORE to help the decision…
1-The Talon Of Horus
2-Black Legion
3-Word Bearers (Omnibus)
Once read I will decide.
in the meantime…
LET THE GALAXY BURN.
Whichever one you can get someone else to paint for you.
Black Legion all the way! Let the Galaxy BUUUUUURN!!!!
The betrayed sons of Caliban for me, fighting to slay the monster that ruined and destroyed their homeworld - the Imperium of Man
Started collecting Space Wolves and plan to use my troops for Deathwatch and Space Wolves in the short term....in the primer black and proxies to play and learn the game
Do Chaos Knights count as a "Warband?"
Cause I think one or two Big Spikey Boys vs an army might be funny.
Word Bearers all the way, but who knows what rules I'll use.
Is there information that says Death Guard 'will have a codex' in the near future?
What about the chaos cults? hereticus militarum, Vrakian Militia?
Black legion for the win! From shame and shadow recast in black and gold reborn
Thousand sons is obvious ❤😊
I started painting traitor blueberries.
The Night Lords upgrade set isn't out yet , i can't find it atleast ... man didn't they annouced that like 7 months ago ? :/
Blood for the Blood God!
Magic and Might: I have Thousand Sons and World Eaters
Pretty sure the Black Legion claims not to be a continuation of the Sons of Horus. While mostly made up of that legion, they except any traitors who will serve Abbadon.
Renegades enjoyers are blessed with codex. My Company of Misery will teach imperial minions real misery and hopelessness!
Imagine taking the NL detachment and facing DA... you'll be wiped out.
Did GW threaten Auspex about leaking info? Don’t see the brass tacks like he usually drops
Witch 1 likes useing knives and whips on the picture for steller blade # 12 for the radbrad,
and likes scareing people,
is extremelly violent,
but cares about moralls,
has lightning claws,
has dark blue,
would be a night god,if a god,
(and uses phycoligy to attack, forgot to add on.),
and extremelly dystopia?...
ITS ALLMOST LIKE SOME1 MADE A LEGION FOR ME,PERSONALLY!!!!
Blood for the bloodgod!!! Skulls for the Skullthrone!!!
Is there any way to take Fabius Bile in an Emperors Children force in 10th Ed?
21:00 what model is this?
Night Lords - Contekar Terminators from the horus heresy
Yes is my answer
