I remember being called to the front of algebra class in 10th grade. Teacher knew I didn’t know the answer, but called me out anyway. So I wrote OFWGKTA on the whiteboard. She asked me what it meant and a couple of my classmates started laughing and being the 16 year old little shit that I was, I told her “don’t worry about it”. Next day, teacher came in pissed. She must’ve gone home and heard this song or epaR. We left class and later that day, while I was studying in the library the headmaster loomed over me. I remember thinking “Fuck”. I stood up and he grabbed me by the arm and walked me over to the bookcases and started chewing me out, asking how I could listen to that kind of music. I was intimidated and apologized. He just kept going off, actually cussing me out which surprised me. Finally, I asked him how it was any different from listening to Green Day in the 90’s or Sex Pistols in the 60’s. I wasn’t endorsing what they were talking about doing, I just enjoyed the music. He said it was beside the point and not the same. A few months later, while in his office, He actually apologized to me. He said he didn’t like the music, but he could see how it wasn’t all that different from previous artists pissing off old guys like him. I remember playing cop killer and stick up extra loud that day with the homies. OF had some serious talent, it’s been great to see each member of the group grow over the last 10 years. Frank, Syd, Tyler, Earl...thanks for music and memories.
