I think anyone can learn anything. The thing that really determines if you will end up learning that thing, is the enjoyment you get from it, your passion and resilience.
Hmm. I don't think talent exists in the way people think it does. I think what you actually have is a propensity for things. Basically, there are things you're drawn to. Things that you pick up more easily than other things. And that's what pulls you to practice and work on that particular skill. So, it looks like talent, but its not. Its hard work and practice devoted to the thing you like doing. Pretty much all creative things are skills anyone can learn.
I really love this comment. It kind of puts things into perspective for me. Haha...what about singing though? Sure, one can be taught to sing better than one already does. Butttttt....I kind of think that you either have the "voice" or you don't.
Eh think about blondie she had a massive change to her voice halfway through her career. Is about making art that fits you not trying to mold yourself into another artist(or chasing your former self ig) What's the point of art if it's not informed by the artist?
This! Having or not having talent is simply a question of where your baseline for something is. Someone with a talent for sculpting may see more immediate success in their first tries, they might have a better intuition for their tools and how to use them, a better intuition on proportions. Someone without talent may start "further down" and needs to work to get to the point where the talented person started, they may need to more actively learn about their tools and proportions and all that, to get the same intuition. But that's it. If the talented person rests on that talent and doesn't also put hard work into getting better, building upon their intuition and all that, they won't ever get very far past their baseline. The not talented person in the other hand had to already put the work in to even reach the talented person, so they're used to working hard for their improvement and will likely continue to do so, if that's really something they wanna pursue, so they can get to a point of being much better than the talented person who just kinda "rests with their talent" I for example have lots of talents, meaning there's a lot of things in the creative area where I have a good baseline to start. But I don't have many things I'm truly good at, because I never pursued them any further than realising "oh hey, that's something I can do a little". I picked up crochet very easily, but never finished a single thing. I'm not too bad at embroidery, but quickly just kinda lost interest in doing it a whole lot. I used to draw a lot and got compliments by an artist about my intuition for human body proportions, but haven't drawn a person in years except for a single thing I did for my parents. Other than that, I only do sketches for the two talents I actually built upon: sewing and building. These things I actively pursue and seek to get better at, learn new techniques and skills, so they're the only ones where I've seen significant improvement
@@BunnySpaceMachine There's a lot you can do with your voice, in my opinion everyone can sing, and plenty of people are celebrated for it despite their limited range. Most people just don't know how to get the most out of their voice, underplay themselves, or don't seek training.
Love this and your message. I’m an artist as well and I often have this conversation with people- they see someone far along in their career and the instinct is to say “wow you are so talented- I wish I could do that,” and when I have the chance I will often tell them where I started, in hopes that they see predisposition is only one part of the equation- passion, study and experience often are the bulk of what comprises perceived ‘talents’. You are such a skilled artist, and I’m loving seeing your process and incredible pieces!!
I used to think I wasn’t very creative until I started doing creative things and realized that creativity is actually kind of like a muscle. When you first try, it feels very difficult, but over time it starts to become natural to you. The more you do it even just following someone’s tutorial, the more your mind fills with ideas of things you want to try.
Talent for me is the aptitude for *picking up* a skill relatively quickly, rather than having an innate ability to do a thing. Anyone can learn to do something, but how fast they learn it depends on talent (and often how much effort they’re willing to put in to it).
I think being naturally inclined to do well at something exists but that bridge between being good and being "talented" is the passion to keep pursuing and pushing yourself no matter how many times you fail.
I’m an artist, I was often told by my peers that I was talented. I personally believe is just boost for learning, like instinct or creativity, I still had to learn techniques and skills to get better. Talent is nothing if you don’t know how to use a paintbrush.
I think “talent”exists purely when it comes to physical feats like sports (as in pretty pre determined how successful you will be or your affinity) and most other things can be learnt if you have the will to learn it. At school I would draw comics with my friends bc we genuinely loved it but I knew that I was visibly less skilled than even “average” artists in my class. I started teaching myself drawing and painting aged 21, on my days off from work because I found it comforting and during the pandemic I practiced for the love of it and now I am 27 and a professional artist. I still get insecure about my work and my process but like, you never stop learning and that’s the crazy thing about it, there’s so much to learn and I don’t want to stop!
I despise when people say I am talented. No! I worked hard to get to this skill level. I am skilled bc I practiced and tried and failed so many times. they don't see this and just think I was born to do this. wrong. anyone can they need to get past their ego and learn from their failures!
Yeah, I'm an artist but I think skill and practice is more important than talent. You get skilled at the things you invest time and effort into. Maybe you get a head start with natural talent and aptitude, but yeah, you have to nurture that talent.
This is only the second video of yours I've seen. Your sculpting and painting is so beautiful, I've fallen in love with the softness and the colours 😍 talented or skilled, either way your pieces are amazing 👏
When I was a kid I got low scores on my fine motor skills, but I've always loved art, and became an artist regardless. People often praise my detailed work and tell me I'm "talented" without knowing that it's actually the opposite. I think anyone can make wonderful things, even if we have to face challenges along the way.
Anyone can learn anything, I think the thing we confuse for talent is nothing more than fundamentals, which anyone can figure out by simply doing enough, and studying enough. Art fundamentals can be learned from simply observing the world around you. You also can’t get discouraged when the goal you wish for becomes seemingly hard to reach.
I think talent is our ability to love our craft. If you have love for what you're doing, you'll learn to do it faster and easier and people that have struggled with it more than you will think you were better because of some magical unseen power... If, however, you feel like whatever you're learning is for some inherent reason impossible for you advance in, aka you have no talent for it, then you haven't nurtured the right kind of love for it ❤ cause otherwise you'd be getting more enjoyment than frustration no matter what speed you're getting better at it with
I think it’s both you have the talent all you have to learn for it it has to be both a talent has to me learning from it is just who we need to learn our talents for we had to learn our talents
“Talent” is not a gift. It comes from hard work and practice!!! People who are skilled at anything have dedicated a large portion of their lives to that one thing!
being good at something is comprised of talent and skill. talent lets you gather xp in the job faster to level up your work; skill comes from all of the xp you've gathered. if you practice anything for long enough you'll get somewhere.
Talent is inclination. Its the untrained potential, but its untrained - it needs to be honed. And while a person with a natural talent for sculpture - or anything! - might have an easier time picking it up, a leas talented person who works hard can achieve more someone who doesn't.
I do think talent exist, but in order to utilize that talent in a useful way, you must hone and build off of it! You can’t just get away with stuff with talent alone you have to improve the time if not, you’re gonna stay in the same place and people are not going to be very interested in such a stagnant person in my opinion. At least that’s how I view it. I think people can be talented in sports and/or the arts (any kind) naturally because whether it be either genetic (like you said) or just purely coincidental. But it’s the way you choose to use it or even use it at all. It’s all up to the person!
Talent really just means how easily you pick up the skill, tbh… If you pick up a brush and people are amazed at your first work, that’s a natural gift- not everyone is that lucky… like 90-95% of artists aren’t that lucky, really. There’s no denying, however, that people only get better as they practice. I’ve never seen anyone NOT get better at something, but I’ve seen what it’s like when you don’t try AT ALL. Important note: You can be “talented” even if your work isn’t “perfect.” Some things are better that way.
I think talent exists but hard work and patience takes you further, i think believing you don't have talent can discourage you from trying more things but relying soly on talent without putting in the effort to refine your skills also leads to stagnation.
I think talent could exist in some forms, but I think anyone can learn anything. Some people might have more motivation to learn certain things, but still I think that comes from environmental factors, but that lack of motivation can be pushed through. its not necessary to learn skills.
You can absolutely learn to do anything but at the same time some people just don't have the "touch" for certain things just because everyone else in your family is good at one thing doesn't mean you will be good like them
This is my personal opinion. Talent = a faster and more extraordinary capacity to learn or create. I think it allows for an easier and smoother learning curve. I think this is that genetic/environmental component as well as probably more creativity. Skill = the act of doing the thing. Anyone can build this. Talent alone will not work without skill. Building skill without talent will be a clumsier, slower, and less visually outstanding process but it is also necessary. It will be more difficult without talent. Ithink anyone can learn to create. Different approaches work differently for everyone. That's the beauty of art or any craft really. Im interested to hear yalls thoughts though so please feels free to state your opinions 🩷
Not talent. I like to call it drive. The drive to create, to express yourself by any means. Sure, anyone can learn the skills, to pick up a pen, a pencil, a brush, a microphone, a needle, but the difference lies in force behind it. It’s in the motive, the heart, the determination to get whatever is in your head out into the world, whether you choose to share it with the world or not.
As a professional artist someone telling me im talented kinda annoys me. People usually use the word “talented” to imply an inherent ability, that Im simply naturally good at art. Yes I had an inherent interest and passion for art but to get good I practiced for years and ultimately achieved a Masters in fine art. I know they mean it as a compliment but it would be nice to hear “Wow, you’re so hardworking” rather than “You’re so talented.” 😅 *hint hint to art lovers*
