Love love love this Plant Masters series. Appreciate that you take us to different parts of the US and show what can be grown in different zones. Also grateful to be learning from people who specialize in certain things. I feel like a traveler when you take us along. Thank you Jim.
@@JimPutnam well if you to manage to come up this way, you're very welcome to stop by. We have a small specialty rose nursery, and I'm a big fan of your channel!
My two favorite garden youtubers (really the only two i watch 😅), in the same comment section and interacting with eachother. Thats great! Excellent work Jason and Jim, i have learned alot from you both and really enjoy your content and how you guys present information. Greetings from Tampa Fl
Loved the interview with Bobby Green. It is a pleasure to see him in person. I have been following his nursery on Facebook and love to see what he posts.
Wow! Those camellias! Mr. Green has such a pleasant and relaxing voice, this video was like a meditation for me - thoroughly enjoyed this interview and tour. I just adore seeing plants that are allowed to grow without being shaped - I've seen some boxwoods that were so huge that you could walk inside them. Would love to see more of his personal garden with all its mature plants. Thanks Jim! (Also, I actually appreciate the mild background noises, even if it's a road. It isn't intrusive or distracting and actually helps me feel like I'm really there.)
Gee wiz! I didn’t realize there was so much to see in Alabama 🌿🥀 I’m really enjoying these tours, Jim. Thank u for sharing these gardens, plants & their creators. I love camellias! I have a white October Magic that is just a couple of years old and has a vertical shape.
One of my camellias opened its first flower today! I'm in zone 6b and have three of them in the ground. Also have a kalmia (PA's state flower) and a variegated pieris. I can see why strangers wander into that garden.
Great tour I'm just starting to become familiar with Camellias as a northern gardener now learning to garden in the south this answered some questions. Thanks!!
I believe October Magic Orchid came planted with my house when I bought it. She's about to start blooming soon and if that's not the same variety, it looks very similar.
We are barely in 7a and my local nurseries don’t carry Camelias..on my to do list to drive a little south to find one of Bobby’s. Also mountain Laurel is our state flower 🌸 here in Pennsylvania
I have two October Magic Sasanqua Camellias that I purchased as one foot starts. I am training them as small trees to get them off the ground in a front window bed small area. What great plants. The color on the blooms can vary from year to year from white with pink/red edges to total deep pink. After 5 yrs they are chin high and I think I will keep them at around 7 feet. I do not shear them. I shape prune them lightly once a year in the spring.
'October Magic Orchid' is full of plump buds here in my SE Virginia garden, but the blooms are a few weeks away. It's a beauty in full flush. I'll keep my eye out for that red sasaqua. Please highlight his garden's gingers when you visit again. They are amazing plants. My butterfly ginger, *_Hedychium cornoarium_* is still perfuming the garden after the first bloom appeared two months ago. So fragrant! Thanks for adding them to your video introduction.
Central Texas has indeed been inhospitable to the camellias I've tried to grow. If I try again, it will be in containers. I had lovely ones in New Orleans and miss them this time of year.
What are the new yet-to-be-released Southern Living Plant Collection camellias that Bobby referenced in the video and when will they be available? Light Pink Shi Shi and something else...?
I just picked up an October orchid and wondering about sun placement. Can they handle a good amount of shade? The spot I’m wanting gets more sun in the summer but it’s pretty shady right now.
This is my Camellia playlist on UA-cam. ua-cam.com/play/PLxYqoR2FCE_05jUcl4MmM21mhMlFRj9kx.html Thanks for watching.

I second that I really enjoy this.
Love the flowers on that pieris! I haven't grown it here, but I'll keep my eyes open for it.
You should see the new ones. I couldn't show them, because they are not patented yet. I need to get up your way next summer.

Spectacular conversation! What a great interview; geeking out about camellias 🤓🥰
It’s like virtually meeting a rockstar! Thanks Bobby!!!! And thank you Jim 💖
and if ya put a tune behind y'all having your conversation, it'd make a sweet song! *Roadwork sounds added lots too.
Another wonderful garden. The Deep South gardens are magical. Thank you for posting them.
October Magic Ruby would make a perfect foundation plant. Currently resisting the urge to rip out these Purple Diamond Loropetalums to plant these 😂💖

Enjoyed the video, looking forward to seeing more of Mr. Green’s garden 😀
That was wonderful. I love all those red Camellias, they are all beautiful. Looking forward to the tour of Mr. Green's garden.
Wow, that Mountain Laurel is outstanding. ❤️
Great video, glad you discovered another garden to tour!
Bravo to master propagation! It's incredible that you can grow an amazing plant from practically nothing.

another winning garden/plantsman/video - thanks, as always, for sharing all the knowledge and inspiration and enthusiasm !!!

Wish I had one of his mountain laurels. I read a study that Ostbo Red performed well in zone 8, so I'm trying it in south Louisiana.
You’re in my neck of the woods! Totally enjoyed this video.

Quite interesting interview...I have taken notes for my new native garden.

I bet it smells glorious when the camellias are in full bloom there
Very nice place👍👍
Wow! It would be terrific to see Bobby Green’s home garden!
There is always something new and unknown. May I ask, what is this daisy-like flower at the very beginning, so delicate and pretty?
Looove camellias and gardenias
Fabulous 🌷🌷👌👌
I wish I could grow Camellias, but it’s just SO dry here in Central Texas.

I read that mountain laurel is super poisonous, that’s the only reason I’ve hesitated to add it…
Just don’t eat it. 🤷🏻♂️😂
@@Shunya0101 I have a kid and a dog who don’t know to just not eat it.

I almost poured a glass of whiskey when Bobby said that it wasn’t until January that he gets a killing freeze… amazing plants as well!
👋😃
Hey Jim I live about 45 min to 1hour from fair hope is bobbies nursery retail or wholesale? Would love to visit if retail.. please reply
It is kinda neither. It is mostly just for plant breeding. Plants are grown in other nurseries now.
Call pros interview SERIES...
"HORT AMERICA"..and please hug 13yo HOLLY for me from mountains of NC......LOVE HER!
Sure wish someone would concentrate on expanding the hardiness of camellias into zone 6❗️
There are several that are. Try Camellia Forest for some hardier ones
@@JimPutnam I will. Thanks!
I’m a little wild so I’m trying camellia sasanqua “Yuletide” in zone 6b up against a brick wall.
Great video but cant help to notice y'all a bit awkward and don't flow very well, is that true in person or is it just because of the camera
He is reserved quiet person by nature. He is also a great guy and a great plantsman.
I so wish I could grow Camilla. Beautiful cultivars.
