Thank you for covering this wonderful game. Your content is terrific. I remember the first space dock that was not very fun to be in. The second remodel was much more user friendly. I’m looking forward to trying the new space dock.
I miss the old ESD! They didn't change anything inside the usable spaces so didn't really see a reason to change it then. I wish I could just go back to the last ESD
Outside esd is in dire need of the red pennant stripes and well some colour other than standard federation grey and blue lights. Communication, transporter pad emitters, phaser banks, shield emitters and maintenance crew quarters among other things. Someone should petition for the next mission sto releases to feature that release model of esd updated of course to modern visual standards for xyz species' star base or even give it to the lukari as a gift from the federation.
i am happy that game is alive and i can play it and i am happy that there are new things in the game - that is very good soo with that im mind i am happy for this change (this is a prove that the game is still "there and alive") - how much i personally like it ... i need to play it more after changes to say if i like it to be honest ...
I visited the new ESD last night and when my captain walked past Admiral Quinn's office, he was shocked to see how his home world looked from the windows facing outward. He wasn't sure if this was Earth or the planet Vulcan with the brown planetary textures. 😄 Apparently, someone neglected to update the visuals of Earth from the interior of ESD. Also, the lighting within the central lobby of ESD was too bright, as the subtlety of lighting among the fauna, fountains and concourse does not presently have proper lighting contrasting elements. If I didn't know better, I would say that this was a "rush job" to complete the updates to ESD by Nick Duguid. He did a great job with the Sol map and the exterior aesthetics of ESD, but the interior of ESD needs equal measures of attention to resolve these aesthetic blunders.
An updated model was needed and the effort put into making this is appreciated, but I wish they updated the old ESD instead of making this. Classic ESD is iconic and they said Picard is a different timeline anyway, so we didn't need a Picard ESD. They didn't even replace classic ESD in the campaign missions, so honestly there was no point.
The spires on the Top (pointing up) are for subspace. Communications throughout the Federation the ones pointing down are for planetary communications.
Honestly, all the needed to do to keep it in a geosynchronous orbit, was have the sun move around the map. That’s all they needed to do. Been playing since launch, it’s a great game. Thanks for making the video!
According to the old ground ESD diagrams of the station the antennae on top were for interstellar comms, datalink etc. The ones on the bottom were for planetary comms, datalink etc. So I assume the same will hold true for the new ESD, just more of them. I'm fine with the new ESD, hoping we console peasants get it eventually but what I REALLY want is for them to continue to mirror S3 of Picard and move the old ESD to a nearby system and recreate the permanent fleet museum in game. That would be awesome. Complete with the Enterprises A and D and all the others from Picard.
ha ve to admit its been a long while since I played STO... Indeed kinda shocked its still going... Will have to log in and see if our tier 5 fleet is still there...
The only sad thing is we can no longer get outside of space doc and jump off it turn around and see the exterior of the space dock I did this one time in the past 6 years of playing the game and I don't know if I can still do it with this new model
Never was a fan of ST: Picard, but i like this new Spacedock. It sure looks like a logical replacement for the old one though i would've the old one to be also there as the Starfleet musem.
I am a lifetime player from launch (back when i had to buy the game for £50 in 2010 only to see it go F2P ...never got any sort of compensation for that move!) BUT in 2025 i am still playing (bought a lifetime sub after they stopped the monthly) so i have over the yrs a lot of invenstment in STO! And is still prob one of the only games i play on a regular basis! Im glad they have updated ESD BUT i do wish that eventualy they will expand the ground map on starfleet academy as thats been the same for yrs too ......loads of space at the back of the exchnge /bank that has corridors that go no where aprt from usless hollodecks ect ! i do wish they would open up the second level there to actualy uses the iconic shuttle bay seen in star trek the movie there is so much they could do with that ground map!...so much potential there and not used the same with the captains table does anyone actualy vist that these days as there is no incentive to do so sadly!
there are actually a bunch of static ships outside the station, including the USS Rhode Island. also the USS Loma Prieta, which i believe admiral T'nae uses during the mission to defend vulcan from Sela's attack
17:34 That's where Luke was hanging after he escaped his duel with Vader and he called Leia in the Millennium Falcon, right? Right? 😅 Kidding aside, I love STO 😊
I never really considered *Star Trek Online* to be in the “Prime” timeline… so, honestly, I really wish they’d quit trying to synch it up with whatever’s onscreen. Just let it be it’s own thing! (Though, if they wanted to replace the original Spacedock after it got torn up by the Undine, that would’ve been a logical, seamless inclusion. But whatever, I guess…) (Also, the Enterprise-F wasn’t being dedicated in season 3 of Picard, it was being retired, apparently *just* so they could rename the Titan-A.)
they need to change the inside. Hell, bring in an updated engine (not going to happen, but a guy can dream) for the whole game. It is showing its age in spades, even without the rubber banding.
Maybe the "spiky things" are supposed to be attachment points for new modules to be added to the station when needed? At least that's my main theory. Second one is that the Federation decided to go full Terran and plan to impale captured enemy ships on these things. To intimidate the enemies and subjects alike, you know. :D
Discovery is Prime TimeLine, Lower Decks Doesn't change that, all lower decks did was show an alternate timeline version of a Klingon, nowhere did it say that Klingons that look like didn't Exist in the Prime Timeline, as stated by everyone who Makes Current Trek, every show since Discovery is Prime Universe/Timeline.
Since the damn thing took the brunt of most of Starfleet all at once, I imagine its near the safest place to be in the entire galaxy. Is the original ESD being turned into the fleet museum? I hope so!
Discovery is still canon and not a alternative timeline and no it isn't officially at all. On Lower Decks, that is just ppl interpretation of that episode that Discovery is in a alternate timeline all because of a Discovery Klingon be8ng shown on TV There is no official statement from Paramount that Discovery isn't canon and in a alternative timeline. I wish ppl stop making things just because they dislike Discovery.
Agreed...Lower Decks literally has a crossover with Discovery's direct spin off, Strange New World. All the series finale of Lower Decks did was to make a reference to the appearance of season 1 Disco klingons the sameway the Cerritos transform in canon federation ships and other Klingons into proto-versions that Worf became in the TNG episode Genesis. it wasn't Paramount subtle way to dump Discovery, nor was it Mike McMahan going behind Kutzman back to decanonize Discovery...or whatever BS Brent think he saw or was told...Hell Beckett Mariner herself, Tawny Newsome, is one of the writers for Discovery's second spin off revolving around the reopen Stafleet Academy in the 32nd century...so no I doubt the Lower Deck team were trying to discredit to Discovery place in canon...It was just a reference, a sight gag to open the episode.
We've gone from "Craptic" who famously couldn't fix things or broke things when adding content to "Decofshit" whose tenure has thus so far been marked with no real content added a few bug fixes and quality of life updates not to mention server instability, being taken down at random, often daily at times and old bugs resurfacing, same old predatory pricing on bundles and nothing done about farmers/bots screwing up the dilex. I'm not holding my breath about anything getting done to this game for a while. My guess is this engine is way too old and quirky for new people to do things with effectively. There's a vast difference between someone whose wotked on it for 10+ years and someone with 6 months on the job training.
Why i quit STO ... 1: The community becomes incredibly ( and i mean on a god level ) toxic whenever you point out a shortcomming or something you wish to see improved. ( they act as if its pure perfection speaking out earns social death )... 2: the character view is bad it needs a traditional 3rd person setup .... the character modeling is dated needs an upgrade... the ship interiors are must buy and not all of them have it .... theres little to no charater freedom between player and npc makes it feel repeditive ... the events give the worst rewards litterally noting you want ad will be in the store anyway... the econemy in game is so past greedy inflation it makes wow look cheap.
I swear people are so miserable nowadays... it's sad honestly. New ESD looks great. Thanks for covering this! Also why would Picard be in an alternate universe? S3 perfectly capped of the TNG era.
It's really not that great lol the outside looks so boring and they need to go back to the blue station i am not sitting outside of that tank to look at that lol, they should've asked us what we wanted first and i would've told them i just wanted them to expand the blue station. Inside however i like how they've spruced it up but the lights are now too bright in areas especially the exchange area, i don't like the earth model it's too brown, and the shipyard view is now unappealing to look at. I used to like standing there for a minute looking at the shipyard view now i'd rather look at a nebula lol i appreciate any breathtaking views it feels so out of this world and magical. Trying to make earth look too real doesn't translate in the game and the real earth looks much bluer than that, i don't mind that it's bigger but the blue earth was fine. Also beaming onto earth spacedock before we could just click beam down but now we have to go into a dialog window and then click beam down. They tried to make it similar to how deep space 9 does that when you fly near the station but it makes no sense it's quicker to just have a button that beams us down right away.
i'll play again if they address those issues outside from that ... its simply not worth the effort or invested time to me ... its a shame because i loved my captains loved my personal lore but what can you do when the community is anti improvement and the company is simply not listening
I feel the game is slowly dying. Content isn’t so frequent like it used to be. The wiki hasn’t been updated in 2 years. New missions are far and few between. I’m still waiting for an Enterprise focused mission set.
Changing shit that doesn't need changing or matter...good job Perfect World. Traded in tradition for ugly...well, this is 2025, seems par for the course.
Exactly. The scene everyone keeps referencing to say that just means that the particular KDF captain and ship in that scene looked that way in another reality (I believe they were doing the "quantum realities" thing that Worf had to deal with? Haven't watched it yet), not that Klingons never looked like that (or, hell, that there aren't any Klingons that STILL look like that) in Prime continuity. Honestly, though, I kinda expected Brent would go for that take on it. Over the years he's been quite vocal of his dislike for most of the newer Star Trek content.
I'll still miss the iconic old look of ESD, but nothing stays the same forever.
the original? the one for climbing and actual interaction instead of being full of exchange jockeys? lol yes, the OG was wayyy better
I wish I could just go back to the last ESD
all the update did to most of us was up the load time to get to ESD and reset our traits
Looks great! I remember when they said they never would. Good to see DECA management is willing to do some quality of life.
i am happy that game is alive and i can play it and i am happy that there are new things in the game - that is very good soo with that im mind i am happy for this change (this is a prove that the game is still "there and alive") - how much i personally like it ... i need to play it more after changes to say if i like it to be honest ...
its alive. if you hang on exchanges or stand arouns afk, thats all I run into.
I visited the new ESD last night and when my captain walked past Admiral Quinn's office, he was shocked to see how his home world looked from the windows facing outward. He wasn't sure if this was Earth or the planet Vulcan with the brown planetary textures. 😄

I used to love flying around the earth but this looks amazing
I love the new earth and surrounding looks! Nice Time ship!
An updated model was needed and the effort put into making this is appreciated, but I wish they updated the old ESD instead of making this. They didn't even replace classic ESD in the campaign missions, so honestly there was no point.
The spires on the Top (pointing up) are for subspace. Communications throughout the Federation the ones pointing down are for planetary communications.
The static dot is not Mars or Venus, it’s McKinley repair station.
The new ESD feels smaller then the old spacedock. but this is exciting and refreshing for a new update.
dam this game is still kicking huh crazy
I hope they change the interior as well
Honestly, all the needed to do to keep it in a geosynchronous orbit, was have the sun move around the map. That’s all they needed to do. Been playing since launch, it’s a great game. Thanks for making the video!
I think they should give us an option to visit the old versions of Spacedock, especially the last one.
According to the old ground ESD diagrams of the station the antennae on top were for interstellar comms, datalink etc. The ones on the bottom were for planetary comms, datalink etc. So I assume the same will hold true for the new ESD, just more of them. Too bad it was just stealth updated instead of being mission related like the last time when the Undine invaded and basically wrecked it.
You truly did the station justus😀
ha ve to admit its been a long while since I played STO... Indeed kinda shocked its still going... Will have to log in and see if our tier 5 fleet is still there...

18:20.
Reminds me a little of Omega in Mass Effect.
any idea when the esd revamp update comes on console?
I am a lifetime player from launch (back when i had to buy the game for £50 in 2010 only to see it go F2P ...never got any sort of compensation for that move!) im pretty sure all of the static ships orbiting the station were there before the update, i have taken screenshots next to them before
there are actually a bunch of static ships outside the station, including the USS Rhode Island. also the USS Loma Prieta, which i believe admiral T'nae uses during the mission to defend vulcan from Sela's attack
I miss the protostar it used to be in earth space talk
i wish the expansion also brought in more area to discover .
17:34 That's where Luke was hanging after he escaped his duel with Vader and he called Leia in the Millennium Falcon, right? Right? 😅 Kidding aside, I love STO 😊
i hope it doesn't take too long for us on console see this because it looks really nice
I never really considered *Star Trek Online* to be in the “Prime” timeline… so, honestly, I really wish they’d quit trying to synch it up with whatever’s onscreen. Just let it be it’s own thing! That ship looks to be the original concept for the Enterprise-C designed by Andrew Probert
they need to change the inside. Hell, bring in an updated engine (not going to happen, but a guy can dream) for the whole game. It is showing its age in spades, even without the rubber banding.
Yeah and I can't help but notice they stuffed the Enterprise F inside. Why do I feel like STO is going to Fleet Formation all the UFP players.
Maybe the "spiky things" are supposed to be attachment points for new modules to be added to the station when needed? At least that's my main theory.
Second one is that the Federation decided to go full Terran and plan to impale captured enemy ships on these things. To intimidate the enemies and subjects alike, you know. :D
the things sticking out the bottom and top are entana for verius reeason like comunication things like that
I'd personally add toilets but that's probally just me.
would prefere if they spent more time giving content at the moment we get an increadibly slow trickle of maybe 3-4 new missions a year
Really hoping they move the old spacedock to be the fleet museum
It became the Fleet Museum at Athan Prime, they just added tour rings for the ships to sit in and folks to walk around each exhibit.
@ that’s exactly what I was referring too
Discovery is Prime TimeLine, Lower Decks Doesn't change that, all lower decks did was show an alternate timeline version of a Klingon, nowhere did it say that Klingons that look like didn't Exist in the Prime Timeline, as stated by everyone who Makes Current Trek, every show since Discovery is Prime Universe/Timeline.
If this is what Deca are bringing to the table, then all i can say is RiP STO. Lol
Will this new update be on PS5?
Since the damn thing took the brunt of most of Starfleet all at once, I imagine its near the safest place to be in the entire galaxy.
Is the original ESD being turned into the fleet museum? I hope so!
Is it on consoles?
So that's why I can only get 1-5 fps now when I play it on my crappy Asus lappy.... Damn.
Oh well
discovery is not alternate universe due to strange new worlds doing its crossover with Lower decks
Earth looks like a lot of brown? No green?
Discovery is still canon and not a alternative timeline and no it isn't officially at all.

If only more people shared your intelligence…

wait did they trash it again?
I mean the last time they redid the Spacedock they Literally SMashed it with the iconians i think it was
I swear people are so miserable nowadays... it's sad honestly. New ESD looks great. Thanks for covering this! Also why would Picard be in an alternate universe? S3 perfectly capped of the TNG era.

They do shit INSIDE tho, but idk it needed an "update".....classic STO tho, Fix shit that dont even matter and never fix bugs.......
i'll play again if they address those issues outside from that ... its simply not worth the effort or invested time to me ... its a shame because i loved my captains loved my personal lore but what can you do when the community is anti improvement and the company is simply not listening

Why it looks so good on this video. Ut on my xbox series s look old and ugly
literally EVERYTHING from the Kurtzman era of trek is an alternate timeline.
Changing shit that doesn't need changing or matter...good job Perfect World. Traded in tradition for ugly...well, this is 2025, seems par for the course.
You draged this out way to much and a lot of rambling on to much.
I have been playing this game for 12 years... this update is absolute garbage. Never has a game been run such incompetent developers...
In what way?
No it’s not garbage it’s slow because of the transfer of the company’s ownership and training of new developers
Womp womp…
I gotta ask, is everything you look at severely rose-tinted? Because holy hell those are some next-level nostalgia goggles you're wearing.
My only problem was my pc labs on the game now thanks to being a new pc
Discovery is still cannon. It is cannon. It will always be cannon. Lower Decks didn't change that. Lower Decks never even attempted to say that.

Waiting for it to get off the test server...and the should've went w dsc future dock...wouldve been better off down the road
