Electric blankets! They are cheap to run and warm up the bed and you so quickly. You can put it on the highest setting 20 minutes before you get into bed then turn it off, or you can keep it on the lowest setting throughout the night for steady warmth, but definitely do not fall asleep if the blanket is on the medium or high setting! It means you can be so incredibly cosy in bed without heating the whole room.

Love your ideas but I don’t understand why people say that all tumble dryers are expensive to run.
I have an energy saving LG tumble dryer A***
It cost me more to put my heating on to dry my clothes on a radiator and it takes more time to dry my clothes on a radiator than it dose to use my tumble dryer.
I generally think it depends on the tumble dryer you have and how many clothes you have to dry/ how long it actually takes to dry your clothes on the radiator.
It’s just something to keep in mind check what type of tumble dryer energy you have first before making this switch. 😊

Thanks for another really helpful video! Going off the curtain closing idea, i swapped out my basic curtains for thermal curtains (from dunhelm, found some brands can be a little pricey to start depending on length/colours) and its so worth it! Can really tell the difference in how much heat they keep in the room, which in the long run will work out as an investment for saving on heating

Even in the winter as long as it's not raining dry your washing outside on a line. As long as it is windy get those clothes outside

Great tips! Love warm the person and not the house!! I'm trying so hard to not use my tumble drier and I've halved the amount I'm using my dishwasher! Thank you Lara xx

Glad it was helpful! I've invested in heated blankets this year so we don't have to heat the space up to keep warm. Well done on your changes, the tumbler especially will make SUCH a difference! x

I'd like to recommend dryer balls for when you do need to use the dryer - makes such a difference to how long you need to run it and I reckon it makes towels even fluffier!

About cleaning. You dont need any products other than a microfibre cloth and water. It removes both bacteria and virus on a surface. Another tip is to negotiate every cost, from insurance to the car maintenance. Shop around.

Best cleaning tip, I use washing-up liquid for most of the cleaning, diluted with water as well. I don't use fresheners just clean my house and open the windows. :D great video :)

I made a big thing of spaghetti Friday afternoon and it fed me all weekend. I can't use the cheapest ingredients but I still spent only about $10 for 2.5 days of food.

I literally just brought a tumble dryer. We have gone years and years without one and I’m sick of struggling to do my bedding and towels in the winter.
I will say tho look into your local schools or charity as our school as just added washing machine and dryer to it’s “pay as you feel” shop

Great tips, especially “heat the person not the whole house”. However, coming into winter when the days are at their shortest, I like to see as much daylight as possible, so I probably won’t be pulling the curtains until it’s dark. Mental health suffers in winter for a lot of people due to lack of daylight, so I suppose it’s a balance between that issue and saving money?

    • @LaraJoannaJarvis
      @LaraJoannaJarvis  Рік тому +3

Yes, absolutely!! We need that serotonin and with the room dark we may feel more sleepy and have lower mood so yes, if you do suffer it's important to get as much daylight as possible. Lunchbreaks outside and as much time in the light, looking after our mental health is so important xx

Great video like always. Just one mention: be careful with the fluffy bedding and kids clothing because they are made of polyester and is not safe to wear specially in children. It's a lot to explain, better search if is safe to wear polyester and side effects. ❤

I love kittens, Don't wear it much, but didn't know about adverse effects from polyester. After reading your comment I checked online. The heat releases a chemical which is a carcinogen. Yikes! Soft and cosy could be deadly. Thanks for bring it to our attention. Take care and stay safe.

    A few ideas:
If you have cats, and feed them canned food, add about 1/4 water. This can help stop crystals, because most don't drink enough water, and it helps fill their tummy using a bit less food.
Use a credit card convenience cheque to grocery shop. A balance transfer will normally cost about 2 %, so if you write yourself a cheque, for say $1000, and pay the $20, and pay not interest for 10 months. You can go and spend many times your grocery money in one time out. You'll save the time, money, and transporting of your groceries every week. Just pay your card bill before the 300 or so days of interest free grace are done, and you are good. Pay the bill every two weeks, as you had gone shopping. Not only does it make a person feel better to save money, but to have half a year of groceries is good peace.
If you have cats or dogs you can try above with the convenience cheque, and phone a pet store. Some are more than happy to bring you an order if you spend $500 or $1000. Store your items in your basement, and don't go through the snow to get them, save money on going to the store, and get them dropped at your front door.
Don't use a lot of water during a shower, soak yourself, then turn off the water while soaping. You can probably lather a lot better, and then rinse. This will probably lower shower time, and water will be less also.
Don't try to impress others when you buy things. Buy an item and either think of using it as long as you can, or for 2 years.
Turn off shutoffs for your washing machine, because they are one of the first things to need replacing. Turning off the water lowers the weight on the washing machine connections, and extends the time it will be around.
If you would like to plant a garden to save some money, you can make it twice the size, for about half the time and extertion. Take your spade out in autumn, and dig your garden area, and flip the soil, turning the roots up. Winter will weather the soil and make it fall in pieces in your hands in spring. This will stop you needing to dig up the soil in spring, and then further break in pieces.
Request useful gifts, things that you will end up buying for yourself, or yourself. Eye trinkets look nice, then after the novelty is gone, do they still find themselves needed ? Things like shirts, towels, even catfood or pet supplies might seem weird, but if you love your cat, what's a better gift, an item you won't use or something your cat will enjoy ?
If you don't need or use an item, put it on your boulevard, someone might need it, and it might encourage other people to do the same. You won't be making any money on your item, but chances are good that you'll save more on an item you might / will find.
