    Thank you for the video's Mr. Ramadan. They have inspired me to make some of these at my home.

    Thank you for sharing! Im considering building five 6 ft high square columns with stone veneer to attach/ hang forged steel fencing panels. I noticed you say building casts in smaller segments. What is the benefit opposed to creating a 6 ft long mold where I could set over an existing in ground pylon with rebar. Also what is the benefit to casting with hollow center?

      The formwork needs to resist the load of 6ft of fresh concrete. Concrete is really heavy (24kN/m3) so while it is fresh, it pushes the sides of the formwork like a liquid would. If you go too high it will bend the mold and create irregular shapes. If you are able to make a metal mold it might help. Otherwise get a book on concrete formwork.

    That is a _lot_ of defect for a column. All those air bubbles are terrible. Put your mould on a shaker instead and let it run.

    Please tell me WHY you did a half smooth column and a half fluted column ?

    • @joshuawatkins2768
      @joshuawatkins2768 8 років тому +1

      I don't believe there is any historical precedent for this. If anything the top should be fluted, as things should logically increase from sturdier to more delicate. If he'd only placed them the other way around.

      It's a type of Roman coloum. In Italian it's called "pompeiana"

    how tall could you build these ? i was hoping to making them around 8 to 10 ft but how do i make sure they cannot fall over

    • @EarendilTheBlessed
      @EarendilTheBlessed 3 роки тому

      It's a ratio of load applied to them, width you will make them and how straigth you will make them. If you are skilled you could make them as big as what the romans did.

    And how to finish the surface of the column?0:23 Doesnt look very smooth!

    • @EarendilTheBlessed
      @EarendilTheBlessed 3 роки тому

      To make it smoother, use a premix concrete of quality like King Products, FA10 SCC. Problem here is he under consolidated the concrete, letting too much big air bubble inside. You would need to vibrate it carefully (too much vibration is problematic also) or use a SCC concrete (cost more, but the result is going to be much better).

      Not really.. Concrete is super strong in compression; only in tension is concrete weak. Bridges need concrete. I think his pergola will be fine.

      +Brigitte Goodman its fine you can put one metal pole in the center of each section that should be good enough .
