You mentioned if you wait too long between the mold and the cast, that the alginate will shrink and distort. Would pouring a cast, and just leaving it prevent this? Would you be able to remove the cast at a later time and retain the mold's form?
Pouring a cast will help a little, but the alginate will start drying out regardless of what is inside the mold. Best to do you casting fast for accurate results. Now, I have used the same mold over a dozen times to cast fast setting silicone and the last pull was noticeably smaller than the first.
Do you ship to the UK? If you don't is there any similar products available, any good UK suppliers? I've tried to look but I don't understand what I'm looking for! Thanks!
Always nice to see more videos! Also, if I want to get a poseable cast, would embedding a wire armature work? or the silicone might be too thick for it to properly bend?
Do not throw that away, it's a waste. Instead, chop it up into smaller chunks. Next time you pour an algenite, use the bigger chunks along side the liquid so you don't have to use as much liquid.
Alginate, once dried out, would cause distortion problems if added to fresh alginate as it would pull moisture from the fresh alginate causing it to warp. :(
Would you be able to post a current price for all your supplies so we each know if this is even in our budget? I don't imagine you used $500 in product but I don't have any idea otherwise.
A lot of pricing will be specific to a given cast, but here's the breakdown for what we did here: Genesis V ~$16, Mold tube: ~$9, Gel-25 $28, Pigment ~$.50. All of those prices fluctuate based on the amount of material you purchase so these numbers are probably on the high end, purchasing in small quantities.
Hi, I ran into trouble during silicone casting stage, I quickly and thoroughly mixed alginate and poured into mold tube and during the silicone casting the alginate started to release water which didn't let silicone to cure at all, it started releasing it after 30 minutes only and silicone needs to be cured in 30-2hrs, I even tried to use lamp and even oven but it got worse... What shall I do I cannot find right platinum silicone. HELP 🥺
@@brickintheyard I used alginate for teeth impressions and generic mold making platinum silicone 0A hardness, for pigmenting I used oil-based paint and DIY flock made from polyester fiber. I did small sample batches and everything was good, until I tried to hollow-cast the alginate mold

Would this method and materials be safe for ...more "sensitive" areas of the body?
Yes. Alginate can be used to mold all parts of the body.
Great video, definitely a nice quick way to mold an arm

We are closed now, but you can order supplies through Fox and Superfine in Georgia or BJB Enterprises in Tustin CA.
Burry half of it so just the hand is sticking up in the woods

How can you make a prosthetic arm that’s like a face mask?
About how much silicone did you use to make three models, and can you tattoo on the models?

You could do that with a Gel-10 hand, Gel-OO hand, or a Gel-25 hand that has been "deadened."

Brick In The Yard Mold Supply would mulching it work as a filler?
Used alginate would probably be best for the compost pile.
Brick In The Yard Mold Supply I'm really interested in mold making for cosplay. Do you have a seller in Michigan?
We do ship to the Michigan. 3 business days transit time.
Could I use this to make a candle??
Not the alginate, but we have several silicones for that. Try 5110 or 5130. Both are well suited for soap and candle making.
since the alginate 5 has been discontinued what can I use as a substitution for that but that will do the same thing?
590 is the best alternative to Genesis V. I’ll update the links

How would you trim it if any bubbles on the hands, just a sharp knife?
An Xacto knofe works well for trimming air bubbles.
Which brand Alginate did you use ?
Sadly, this alginate formula has been disconnected. :(

Yes. 380 is just a faster formula.

how much plat sil silicone was used for the hand?
If I was to pour that now, I would use TC-5130F. I think this took about 2.5lbs.

Alginate is safe for skin and even mouth contact so, thankfully, it doesn't hurt anyone.

A 5"x12" plastic tube.
