I mean, after all Cyrodiil is open at level 10 so imagine being your first character and can't really fight anybody, it's just lame.
I like the shielding mechanics a whole but I imagine they pose a difficult balancing point as they do in most MMOs. I hope they don't make them worthless though as they provide a fun way to build survivability.
I think the damage shield needs to go up to 7K at base, 6 second cool down and zero or very very minimal damage output, keep it as a nice go to survival set for solo players, stam players who wanna run damage shield sets, and anyone else who just likes the set, 7K isn't too OP, and if they really wanted to they could change it and put some clause in that makes it less useful in pvp so it's less op, but still really good in PVE
In considering what you've said, I think I agree that a viable alternative is swapping to a hardening enchant on your front bar weapon to bridge the gap. I think that would mean forgoing an absorb stam or absorb mag enchant, which forces me to consider the new monster helm for the help to sustain(at least on a mag or hybrid). And that bugs me, because I'm still half convinced this was really about pushing that set to the forefront.
I haven’t ran a set with a shield in ages. But if I was going to run one I’d definitely rather have a small amount of Magicka restored than a small amount of frost damage. But if I want to run a set that gives Magicka back I’d probably run Grundwolf. Gives 1000 Magicka back and 500 stam (if your Magicka pool is higher). I absolutely love the style of the new set but I don’t see its value at all really...
Problem is getting through Moongrove Fane on vet... your average PUG cant do it. But now that you mention Grundwolf as a contender against the RSS return of mother cianat I am sure it will be nerfed next.
Your own build or did you follow a template? I'm at the stage where I need to start farming stuff to get better gear. But I prefer the greatsword and bow with Werewolf on the GS skill-bar.
Nice vid, H. I dont run a build with Iceheart but I'll keep me gold infused visage safely in me chest just in case they buff it back up. Seems like the extra dmg shield weapon enchant is the way though. Which kinda sucks.
As shields have resistances now, would it be better to increase resistances rather than put points into bastion? With the reduction of the Iceheart shield, adding points to increase by % seems like a waste of points to me, 20% of a small amount is a very small amount, you benefit from an increase to resistances both with the shield up and when it's down.
Thank you for this video. My favorite part about the game is playing dungeons. As a healer I use the combat physician set and I can use all the help I can get in improving my game.
@@Hurbster2112 It is. 8k fucking shield. Given that the average player has around 15 to 18 k health its almost another half healthbar. With pretty much 100% uptime. Thats 8 Infused Health glyphs. Or 72 Attribute points into health. For a 2 piece set. You know how much health Plague Doctor gives you? 5.5k. For a 5 Piece set. Here you get 8k on a 2 piece set. Its is insanely OP.
Still useful as a Shield stacking Magicka Tank. Templar Shield + IceHeart + Hatchling's Shell + Green Pact + Ice Staff enchanted with shield proc. Eventually you can also pop Bone Shield on top of that....it becomes MicroManagement from hell, but still good.
I don't know how it works but maybe it drops so fast because low physical resistance? If that is the case (I don't know if it is) then this would work for a tank.
For Brands of Imperium, make it a lesser version of barrier. On my Healer, Barrier grants about a 30k shield for it's duration. BoI could last 15 seconds, and it's cooldown 15 seconds for theoretically a 100% uptime, but if it breaks before the cooldown, than that's all you get until it procs again.
not really as thats on a 15 second cooldown as opposed to 6 seconds so potentially you would spend 10-12 without as opposed to max of 3 with iceheart and its a smaller shield than icehearts
Since we only have two monster sets that produce a damage shield, they should've had Iceheart be mainly offensive (as we also don't have any other frost damage monster sets), with them raising the damage while lowering the shield. And then having Ciannait be the more defensive option with the shield being much higher than Iceheart.
I'm currently using Iceheart/Torug Pact/Combat physician/VMA Lightning staff with absorb health enchant front bar and shield enchant back bar on sorc for my survivabilité setup. It's tbh very overkill, but with the nerf of Iceheart, it might be necessary to solo very hard vet dungeon.
Does the heal you get back from siphoning strikes or swallow soul crit? I think either way you should run rapid regeneration with Combat Physician, if you keep it up you’ll get it to proc loads more.
I use full sets: hatchling shell heavy armor/necklace with mighty chudan armor and crafty alfic weapons/gear/ringand on my all magicka Breton warden. Its front bar is frost destruction staff, and back bar is restoration staff that can also have the damage shield ability for me and another...right now not using that, instead going with pink wall heal and the 14k heal over time with arctic winds (either way it can keep me alive in pve easy, PvP sometimes its great and usually killed by high crits from Templars n nightblades). I wish hatchling gave more than just 20 percent shield, wish it popped up way sooner like every 6 seconds instead of 15 seconds. But I love that it is an automatic shield at all times, you don't have to proc it or crit anything to get it, you don't have to take or deal damage or heal anything, every 15 seconds its there for 15 seconds....I could of sworn it used to be better than it is now. If anything they could update the old nerfed gear like it to make it more viable, even giving it a 6-8 second pop up would be nice
Hey Hack The Minotaur, what are your thoughts on heavy armor, sword and shield, stamina base nightblade? I didnt find anything on your Channel, and im really curious if It can be aby good on solo pve or occasionally pvp
i get what your saying about the nerf but standing right in front of the boss when it does its channel attack would have eaten through the previously higher iceheart shield anyway just like any damage shield, iv always played my iceheart or other damage shields as an extra layer of protection and not as a cant kill me coccoon, i havent tested the new mother ciannait set yet but i still run iceheart on at least 5 of my characters while soloing and my warden tank never takes it off ever, i just think people need to acknowledge its not as strong a safety net as it was but its still very viable imo
That's why I'm liking this dude. Kind of interested to see when this new PTS stuff hits live, I typically run around with a greatsword so the new light and heavy attack system will be interesting to relearn.
Combat physician actually procs all the time on my warden who has high crit. As long as I'm in combat it's nearly 100% up and the shield is sizeable. Of course you will have to take a hit first but I see no issues here. You heal it back up and immediately the shield is there. So yeah, it's probably one of the best, if not the best damage shield set. It can also be used on a group as it activates on your teammates too.
When they nerfed sheilds the second time. I reinvented my playstyle around other forms of damage mitigation such as block, health recovery, speed, roll dodge and healing. I don't even run sheilds on my mag sorc currently but that would be the only class I would consider investing into sets or abilities. I'm a high risk high reward player. All that said, some sheilds come passively through CP and psijic along with ultimate. In PVP one good burst could hit could easily take your sheild(s) down. They are too expensive to maintain on abilities and you give too much away in return as procs for sets.
Regarding combat physician, set us good it just might not work on templar as good as it supposed to do. Decent crititcal chance with some sustain and heal skills like crutical surge, blossom, or siphoning strikes will get a very relaible uptime on the set
I appreciate you doing this review in Stormhaven and not Cyrodil. I hate it when players and content creators does reviews in PVP settings to past of the numbers as legit stats. It's so misleading.
I don't think it's terrible or anything, like the important thing is the CD to a point, as no damage shield is gonna be great if it has a high investment or cooldown. I do not think the old Iceheart lasts very long against anything where you'd really fully depend on it as part of your defense, either. Reason being, I don't think today's Iceheart completely replaces defense, so it's really only going to be noticeable where it's extremely close whether you'll down something or not (solo). However, I would also say that I still don't think this set needed a nerf. :P As an aside, I actually think damage shields are stronger at low CP. It will be smaller, but everything else in your stats will be also, and the extra defense is just more valuable than the extra scaling is able to provide, comparably.
At 12 mins, combat physician is very easy to proc, theres a tree in cp when you deal a crit strike heal for like 300, that can crit heal. Crit healing is very easy to do, especially if you have a hot and anything over 30 crit chance. It has a 6 CD and you proc'ed it about every 7 seconds. Also you dont have to be at 100% hp to proc the set.
They should have kept Ice Heart the same and made "Momma C" set dam shield up to 2 or even 3 people. Messed up they just want to sell the dlc, so nerf my beloved Ice Heart. Would have been nice to see some outside the box thinking here😞
OF course they were gonna nerf the iceheart set , i mean they want people to run for the new shiny thing and if the new thing is utter and complete trash compared to an already existing set , they must make the old one utter garbage as well, all in the name of "fairness". The only thing that can be asked right now is to up the damage shield on both sets , cuz you KNOW they arent just going to revert it to icerheart and leave the new shiny in the dumpster.
Man, I was wondering if combat physician would proc from jabs. Not worth using currently for my magicka templar. Hack if you are interested, on my templar I use slimecraw and use some of my stat budget to bring my HP up to 25k and use sun shield. 9k damage aoe and 9k damage shield from that skill, it rocks for soloing.
Imperium was and is a very powerful set on live. I main a dk tank and Imperium and ebon combo is very strong for survivability in all content from trials, to dungeons, to pvp. It hurts that they had to nerf it.💔😒 Smh
I dont play this game to challenge my skills. If I want to do that I will go back to the Dark Souls series. I play for the adventure and exploring and I think they are forgetting that there are players who do not like every step they take in the game to feel like walking through hell. I do enjoy a challenge so I dont want vet dungeons or trials to feel like overland currently is for me but on the other hand I dont like dying from full health for one mistimed roll only to die again the second I am revived for the same reason (vet frostvault). Some of these vet dungeons are so stupid hard due to ridiculous mechanics and insanely heavy hitting bosses that completing them for anyone other than top tier players in coordinated groups is nigh impossible. So why do I run Vet dungeons? Well obviously for the better quality gear to break down for the measly chance of upgrade materials, 2 undaunted keys and of course needing the monster helm in a specific weight. So after literally 15+ deaths in vet frostvault due to that stupid laser I will have to go through what I would describe as torture again if I want the heavy stonekeeper helm. All these gear changes and nerfs are making hard dungeons for the average player much, much harder and in turn driving players away.
Those utility shields are made unviable by either their immensly low magnitude or their long cooldowns for what little they do. You can use any healing monster set and it will give you more damage exchange than any shield set/effect. Zenimax hates damage shields and is gravely afraid of them for no reason. Live with it.
I'm thinking I'll probably just drop iceheart and grab something more offensive. If my survivability drops too much Ciannait is definitely better since i'm a magplar and the extra mana is better than a nonexistant dmg aura. I think as you yourself basically just showed that wb was garbo without any shield set and unless it was some of the harder vet bosses I think loosing it for pure dmg might be better in the long run anyways. Kill them faster and you don't have to survive as long. I definitely prefer the damage shield to give you that extra safety net so at low champion points or hard fights its easier and you don't have to be perfect but it is what it is. edit: Combat Physician also only seems lackluster from a soloer standpoint for a dedicated healer its fine. you lose offense but as heals you shouldn't need too much of that anyway ya just want to be able to take a hit if your tank is a scrub.
A question I have wanted to ask "gaming experts" is, why do you/they always think the devs/games need to be adjusted to what the gamer wants, instead of the gamers (experts) adapting to the game? And, just dealing with it?
Because players pay the bills. Many people will do as you say, but it has to be fun also. And I'm not saying what you or I personally find fun, I'm talking about the majority of players. If people are grinding a huge chunk of time for a set and it gets nerfed completely to trash, then it's essentially wasted time. Some people want to play the content, not just farm all of the time. Sorry, but the game won't survive a player base of 4000 sweaties who are willing to take 2 weeks vacation for every gear overhaul. Eventually they'll just be like "screw it". I think this was very constructive in the context of not just whining about the nerf, but actually analyzing the consequences and it's place in the balance of the whole game.
But, that is flawed. No 2 gamers can ever agree 100% on anything. Ever. Some may think there is too much content. Some, not enough content. Some will think it's too hard. Others, will brag it's too easy. With many variations and opinions. It is impossible for the developers to please everyone. And, no one opinion means more than another. So, instead of being a bunch of ungrateful, self centered, whiners. Why not be mature and adapt? Make do with what you have and stop thinking the developers "owe" gamers anything.
They explicitly do owe them. The player base pays money. And you saying no two gamers have the same conception of fun is a false premise because no one ever said that, including you in your initial question. "What the gamer wants" as quoted from you, is inherently the average desires of all people in the player base. It's very simple. More player want = dev do= more player play. More player don't want= dev don't do or undo= more player stay. This isn't complicated. In summation, if "dealing with it" isn't entertaining to most people, the developer will not get the desired outcome. Your question is answered.
@@XxKidnoffxX Shield can stack. Also you can combine it with other ablities, such as the one from light armor. It depend on your build. I main DK tank and my class ablities also depend on health and magicka. I have set up 2 piece armors set, 5 piece armors form a set, jewelry and weapon form a set. I mean build your character base on the ablities and your play style.
@@XxKidnoffxX make sense. Note that, once you reach CP 160, you can search the armor set list for your ultimate gear. You can gather one set by doing zone quest and dark anchors.
No one is watching but us. I honestly don’t think they care about the game enough to do research. Even Gilliam has stopped pvp ing. Course he get obliterated so that might be a factor.
am I the only one who is tired of content always having new dungeons? not that I dislike dungeons that much per se, just that the content is very one toned
They nerfed it because organized groups got no death runs too easily on all trials, vet dungeons, arenas by skipping mechs due its carry ability especially in full min-maxed competitive set ups Solo players are just collateral dmg in this nerf
Who tf in their right mind is gonna run ciannait for the mag restore? There are monster sets that give 10 times as much mag back... the goal of the set is to break the shield, the dev's have stated, but even if you did that instantly on cooldown, it would roughly be 100 mag recovery... absolutely useless, as most 5 piece sets or even 2 piece sets have a base of 129 mag recovery on the bonuses...
do you ever watch ESO live where you can talk to the devs, If so, you should suggest what you have learned, if their open to the idea maybe they will consider what you know about the monster sets, you do specialize in this kinda thing, just go in there and ask them to watch your channel, who knows what they may say, they are somewhat good at listening to their community. And one more thing, Are you sure that the bosses aren't just breaking through your shields, for example: the boss is doing more than 5k damage to your shield breaking it so you cant get the full 6 sec, if this is the case, then even if the damage shield was still at 6k its reasonable to think the boss would still break through, that is a possibility, but I'm not sure, what you think about shields breaking?
I don't like this change. but I think it's necessary change. because you are not supposed to solo world boss, and normal/vet dungeons either. these're group content, not single person solo content. If everyone can learn youtuber soloing any content, what's point of MMORPG, I think that's why ZOS make any effort to avoid this situation
Damage shield sets are trash... Consider: Torug pact + Infused weapon with Shielding enchant with about 50 points in the lord. = 6500 shield every 3s..
But then you lose a good damage enchant + other set bonuses. Damage shields can be cool as an added bonus, just don't make your build rely super heavily on it.
@@gabrieltrottier1156 Yep.. just trying to illustrate an example.. I think what i said is just about the best you can get regarding set generated shielding. Compare that to what you can do with armor or healing sets. All my vMA toons end up using armor or healing sets for their defensive aspect because shielding sets just aren't good enough.
Not only can you add more things to help these sets out, you can also try to play the game by dodging, blocking, etc, etc. I respect your content and enjoy it also, but I cant believe how much complaining is occurring becuase you can't stand still and eat attacks..basically get carried. If I'm wrong for assumimg that, I apologize but damn that'swhat it sounds like.
Lmao, anything that procs off crit heals is useless. I'm a heala main, stam heala toons, mag heala toons, doesn't matter. If you deal a critical heal ,then you rarely need another heal or even shield. A damage boost proc'd off of a crit heal would be useful.....
That's not entirely true, just because someone is topped off because of a crit heal doesn't mean a shield loses all value since you cant overheal with a shield and it retains it's usefulness as long as damage comes in again.
@@TheHashtagSquad2K15 The shield is massively more useful then another heal, but it's still not exactly clutch lol A shield for a healed ally that is still below 50% health is far more useful then shielding a topped off ally. Sure, you'll be able to shield your tank eventually, but if you can't crontol when, what use is it? That's just my opinion. Like I said,I main a Heala Monsta(NightBlade to be exact.),but I've never been even tempted to use combat medic set. Does 3600 shield loss really make or break the set for you guys? Damage and healing are so insane right now with overland and dungeon content not scaling with a couple years of power creep. I think you guys are over reacting. A passive 5k shield that requires no real skill to proc plus a little damage or mag recovery. How easy and watered down do you need the game to be to solo content?
Do not let this video's subject distract you from the fact that Hack The Minotaur's account has over 2 BILLION gold. I have never seen a million at once (thought I do have it across all my alts combined). I know I haven't focused on earning gold and many have millions, but BILLIONS?! jfc lol

No the game is gone to the dogs I loaded up and the hole town never loaded.!. It was flat land for hours.!. Why play when they don't care about there players?

@@AnEducatedIndividual Damage shield sets never were viable in PvP
Tai Lung I agree with you, I'm just saying what the developers were saying was a big part of their reasoning for nerfing it so hard
I know that Thurvokun is a tanking set, but I started using it in lieu of Iceheart. Works well for a solo tanky stam dps build I have found.
Great option if you have it
Your own build or did you follow a template? I'm at the stage where I need to start farming stuff to get better gear. But I prefer the greatsword and bow with Werewolf on the GS skill-bar.
Also does the Harding glyph only proc when using the weapon or when you hit some kind of crit
I do think it's laughable that rather than buffing Ciannat, they nerf Iceheart to bring it down to it's level.
big brain time at zos. Some dev in a crisp suit was like "Add no value to the game but make me more munnies!!!!!!!!!!"
They did buff it from 3000 shield to 5000 but it was still trash so they nerfed ice heart too.
It’s almost as if Iceheart was OP, so they needed to nerf it rather than make a new OP helm
@@CreativeUsernameEh It's not though.
What motif's you using for that look? Looks pretty awesome.
If that is the case (I don't know if it is) then this would work for a tank.
can you get the mother ciannait set if you dont have the harrowstorm dlc?
For Brands of Imperium, make it a lesser version of barrier. On my Healer, Barrier grants about a 30k shield for it's duration. BoI could last 15 seconds, and it's cooldown 15 seconds for theoretically a 100% uptime, but if it breaks before the cooldown, than that's all you get until it procs again.
Can u put on description the sets that you use or what we should use 😁😁 it will help a loot new players like me.
Great videos. Eso
Do enchants matter which hand they are in when you attack or use a weapon skill?
Same for traits?
Wonder about cyrodiils light, mother and meditate how much shield and mitigation you’d have. Does mother proc with meditate channel ?
And what about "Hatchling's Shell" set? I guess this set it's the best one to proc a good damage shield all the time, can you try it? :D
not really as thats on a 15 second cooldown as opposed to 6 seconds so potentially you would spend 10-12 without as opposed to max of 3 with iceheart and its a smaller shield than icehearts
Since we only have two monster sets that produce a damage shield, they should've had Iceheart be mainly offensive (as we also don't have any other frost damage monster sets), with them raising the damage while lowering the shield. And then having Ciannait be the more defensive option with the shield being much higher than Iceheart.
I have to ask what robe is this. It awesome. I love the style look
U still recommend this for ur sorc build?
I feel like I’m having to re-learn and re-do so much that it feels like I’m a new player.
Zenimax sees video, incoming nerf on hardening enchantment.
I was going to copy your solo nightblade build as it has 2 ice heart peices on it . This still ok to use or you going to update it?
I hope so, I spent way too much time and resources last night converting an old NB to this build :)

It's so misleading.
the visual effect of the 2nd set is much easier to see then the 1st if yer not looking at the buff icons. but still i'd rather have the extra crit.
How well crit healing would work with Mag blade? He has plenty of healing so i wonder.
As an aside, I actually think damage shields are stronger at low CP.
Can Combat physician proc on multiple people or is it once per cool down and you dont know whos going to get it?
@@uglybuzzard4188 only used it in a solo sense so not sure
Utter garbage is a bit of an exaggeration isn’t it lol?
Does this Unduanted alter Crit?
Those utility shields are made unviable by either their immensly low magnitude or their long cooldowns for what little they do. You can use any healing monster set and it will give you more damage exchange than any shield set/effect. Zenimax hates damage shields and is gravely afraid of them for no reason. Live with it.
Turned out ice heart is still great. It’s a total carry set for solo magic or no death runs.
Hack, look into radiant shield as a spammable with overwhelming surge and mother's sorrow for 5 piece
My Bowden needed this video no good damage shields other than brawler which I wanted to stay away from being a bow/bow build

Imperium now price on damage I think. Wonder if that would help.
The question is, should you be able to solo that world boss on a light armor templar?
ZOS doesn't want any set to stand out as "the absolute best". Their solution: Nerf everything until they're all equally untenable. 😂 😂 😂
Can we use 2 sets? Iceheart + Combat physician? Because Iceheart just need 2 items
you can use 3 sets.wepon count as two.Try it if you don't believe me.

Lmao, i can sustain no heavy attacks with 1500 mag recovery and spamming skills
They nerfed it because organized groups got no death runs too easily on all trials, vet dungeons, arenas by skipping mechs due its carry ability especially in full min-maxed competitive set ups
Solo players are just collateral dmg in this nerf
Cianait isn't that bad, sustain and shield. But it feels like it's only viable for magplar.
