3/5 for me too. Except I liked the hippie family and it didn’t even bother me at all that the hippie used to be a lizard. I hated the Mrs Chen bit. Seemed so unnecessary and such a stupid move. But yeah. Had fun. You gotta go in with lower expectations. Or at least I do, sit down in the theater thinking “It’s a Sony movie”.
I love your positivity and good vibes. In our world we forget to stop taking things so serious and just enjoy what we get! Who would've ever thought we'd get 1 NEVERMIND 3 of these!
Hate them all. I am a Spidey comics guy and to even have venom with no origin tied to Spider-Man is an insult to the source material. Comedy is cringe, writing is horrible, most of the graphics are terrible. Venom 2, which had one of my other favs, Carnage, physically made me angry as I walked out of the theater. Venom 3 was so boring, unfunny, uninteresting, nothing redeeming about it. Thank goodness I used amc rewards and paid a $1....and I want my $1 back! 😂
I just got back from seeing it and I think 2 is still my favorite however, I do think this is probably my favorite 3rd act of the trilogy and all I have to say is “Ola, Bitches!!!!”” That line had my dad and I cracking up when we saw the noon showing at my local AMC today lol. 😂
Whenever you involve Spider-Man these characters always play 2nd fiddle. That's why I enjoy these Sony movies. It gives these characters a chance to stand on their own. And some people just don't want that concept on the big screen.
My favorite Easter egg was that In the king in black comics, Cates really emphasizes Eddie being “the comeback king” or the “king of second chances” and when they pulled into Vegas, there’s a line “las Vegas, the city of second chances”
I am glad people are liking it (at different levels). This was the weakest of the 3 for me, and I thought 2 was way too short (though admittedly I am not a Venom reader). Just a lot of plot issues....like not wanting to transform but then does just to dance?!? Um ok that's a choice lol. Hardy is by far the best part of this one (as always). Hard to go more than 5/10 for me but it had a few moments. I thought the symbiotes were more accurate than they apparently were, so that is disappointing as well.
Big fan of yours and your videos/breakdowns. I think rumors/online scooper culture has ruined lots of fans/online people’s expectations for movies and they ultimately end up looking for little things and tie-ins to rumors they have heard/seen online. Let’s enjoy and analyze movies for what they truly are. Keep up the good work.
I agree, I really enjoyed this, was I hoping for maybe a spider man whether that’s Tom Holland or Andrew Garfield or even Tobey Maguire to show up since they were on their way at to NYC but ended up not making it there as a team, yes I definitely wanted that but, I loved it as a movie though, and this might be my favorite 3rd act of the franchise and all I have to say is “Ola, Bitches!!!” That line had my dad and I both cracking up. 😂
But thats the thing.....the writing/plot of this movie was, at best, all over the place and barely coherent. It's literally one of two movies I've seen in the last decade that, mid watching it, I literally almost got up and walked out of the theatre. The knull storyline, to me, was almost an insult to include and the vfx for him looked like it was done in the week prior to its release. It had enormous potential but squandered it. Same goes for venom 2, imo. I wish they had gone a more serious role for venom, as I found Tom Hardy's voice for venom to be very annoying and most of the joking/funny parts just didn't land for me. Would've liked to see how that could've played out
Weirdly didn't hate it because my expectations were painfully low. Like I could legit watch it again and enjoy it for what it is. Wouldn't pay for it though.
I had a great time, c+ is about right for me too. The action in the last half and all the symbiotes looked so cool. Some fun moments all throughout. I think about Venom in the PS1 game and the comedy there and they do capture that side of Venom nicely.
I come to the venom movies to have fun and to enjoy them. I don’t come to the movies to see if Spider-Man is in it. No I come to see these movies for venom and Eddie Brooks relationship basically and that’s what I get from these movies just a really good time at the cinemas that’s all I get from these movies
Thanks for your review Coy! Agreed with pretty much everything you've said, just got out of the cinema and had a pretty good time overall. One thing did leave me a little confused as someone who hasn't gotten into the comics (yet), hoped you maybe had some insight for me? Who was the shadowy mystery man that Strickland reported to on the videocall, and what is the "Project Imperium" that Strickland mentioned? Are there any comic tie-ins there? Regardless, looking forward to next week's Agatha finale review, keep up the good stuff man!
I had a ton of fun with venom. Probably the most in the trilogy! I was expecting something darker with the first one, something again darker with carnage Mostly in the 2nd one. But this was the venom movie i embraced the most and ended up enjoying the most! The knull stuff was cool! The science stuff felt like it had a whole 15-20 minutes of screentime cut so some character choices felt very sudden. But aside from that it was a great time and im glad this movie felt more like (to me) doing the character justice more than settling up sony's convoluted universe and that was really nice
I totally agree, come the second film which is my personal favorite of the trilogy I stopped looking for spider man connections, a lot of people are pissed there’s no spider man connection to his origin and all this other bullshit which after the first movie came out, I stopped caring and just enjoyed the lethal protector side and also the Eddie/Venom bromance is so funny to me, particularly the “Ola, Bitches!!!” line at the beginning of this film.
Hey Coy, saw the video without seeing the movie well the thing is that i've seen the previous two venom movies and i didn't like any of them so i'm not going to watch this one at all also because the sony universe has failed to grab my interest. Great video btw!
I love the Brock/Venom relationship, Tom Hardy killed it with this role. This movie closed out their connection well and showed emotions after it great. The addition of Rhys and the Moon family kept it a bit grounded...till the end. And they were all such great characters to interact with. I absolutely loved them showing venomized actions with multiple people and animals... I didn't mind the Vegas stuff. But it really didn't have a point, except put Ms. Chen somewhere. I wished that they would have isolated the science and symbiote containment to a certain section and dive deeper into it more. But all in all I enjoyed it, had fun. Laughed a bit, cried a bit... Overall success for me.
Honestly i feel like movies you have to forgive a lot of to enjoy can only go so far with me. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first two, only watched it in theaters because i watched the first two in theaters so it felt like i should close it out the same. I liked this as much as the first two. Solid C+ all the way. I actually was way more engaged and entertained by Joker 2 than this. Yes i know it's the cool thing to trash it, but it is what it is.
Is the symbiote still in the 199999 universe still though like you said? I want it to be but I feel they completely remade the scene. The way Eddie/Venom return to their universe is different and for a different reason. It's a portal like the Knull creatures and then the Venom pays leaving some symbiote which Chiwetel collects later on? I'm really not sure about this. Sony probably doesn't even know
I will agree Coy, the first act was a real struggle for me too particularly in the B and C plot but the A Plot when it’s just Eddie and Venom being hunted by the military and the Xenophages that stuff was fantastic and damn, I wasn’t expecting the movie at times to be so gory with the blood spray shooting out of the back of the Xenophages heads when they devoured some soldiers or whatever for food. The first time that happened, even though I knew that’s what Xenophages did because, that’s what they do in the comics, when they actually showed it multiple times and didn’t cut away, I had to literally pull out my phone and make sure I wasn’t watching an R Rated Venom film, which I had heard they may make this one R Rated from Kelly Marcel herself but, they didn’t and the Xenophage stuff, I can definitely understand being why they considered it.
My biggest question, is this. When did the detective that eventually gets bonded with toxic, initially get bonded with a symbiote? They said when he got brought in to the base his original symbiote died, but was successfully bonded with toxic. I did a venom double feature with my gf before venom 3, and I don't remember in 2 him getting infected.
I just finished watching this. I went in with low expectations as with the first one and that helped a LOT! I am beyond excited for Knull (if done right) ! It was a messy film that reeked of too many cooks in the kitchen making this. Allowing too many opinions hinders creativity and a focused vision.
It was a solid 7/10 for me and more enjoyable than Joker: Folie à Deux earlier this month. Tom Hardy carried the movie, as usual, but the supporting cast felt like they were just thrown in there. The new characters should've had more character development and Detective Mulligan was underutilized as the only other established character in the trilogy.
Great Review Coy 2:14 Totally understandable, If this is completely a venom trilogy. Background noise of “Where is Spider-Man, Who is Spider-Man” through reactions of trailers/promos, then opening night not getting it. It can get a little annoying. Would you be interested if this was the trilogy inspiration Venom: Science Let there be Carnage: Mythological Last Dance: A Blend Then having the true trilogy being a King in Black Inspired. So just meeting Venom in the 1st movie, which focuses on the scientific aspects of a Symbiotes and learning about codex concept. With the post credit scene of Knull’s hand reaching out Then Let there be Carnage, instead of Carnage just being the child of Venom, once carnage is born he sees “god” (Knull) and shows the post credit scene so it was Knull reaching for Carnage and does whatever it takes to summon god, and his defeat and the believe that Knull can’t come it ends with portals open and Knull saids “Bring my children home” leads to Knull being released. Last Dance has an all out battle of Xenophage instead of Symbiotes dragons then the other Symbiotes as a resistance force to help Venom battle Knull. If they wanted to end with the trilogy, have Knull defeated have Venom becoming the new King in Black and allow Venom to reshape Klyntar and the whole vision of King in Black into what the celestial’s intended. Plus you could use becoming King in Black as a way to give Venom his white spider symbol without needing to acknowledge spider-man. I really think Knull had the potential to be Sony’s Thanos.
When I saw the purple I was ecstatic… then it turned out not to be Scorn 😒. I’ve been hoping to see Scorn on screen. I’d LOVE to see Scorn go to Bucky but the likelihood of that is slim to none lol.
The character is translated so perfectly with Hardy that I kinda give this series a pass. This was the movie with most heart. And the family scene for me is an easter egg, because the first time we saw Venom's heart of gold in the comics was the Micheline family scene.
Are you guys absolutely out of your mind that you want Spiderman made by a production company as bad as Sony? Are you praying on Tom Holland's downfall or what?

Flash Thompson loses his legs in the final fight maybe setting up Agent Venom in the future Sony Spider-Man universe movies
anyway you could do another vid abt this movie? love hearing your thoughts on it! i liked it, wanna see it again tho. keep up the great work friend!
That wasn't Toxin. Toxin departed from Mulligan, leaving him left for dead, entirely different symbiote that was keeping Mulligan alive.
Is this YOUR Favorite of the VENOM trilogy?
Mmmm I think the Symbiots fight scenes were the best of the series. Overall I might go with the first as the best and this as second best.
