    Ha, nice video Andrew! Only just yesterday I decided I should explore the photographic possibilities of my Samsung, because its always with me. Was always a bit doubtful about the quality for stock, but I guess you're right about subject being more important. I'm gonna give it a go! Thanks👍

      Hi Corine, I use mine mostly for video but its stills are mostly accepted by the agencies. I'm more than happy with the image quality too in most cases. Have fun with your Samsung!

      I have around 1160 photos posted on SS. Around 97% of my photos are shot with a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and I still manage to sell 20-30 every month. It ain't much, but it's really nice to see that people buy the photos you managed to snap with a phone. Good luck!

      @@andrewbalcombe1338 I only have 31 videos posted on SS, but no sales in 2 years. Most of my content is related to agriculture (I worked in a farm for 2 years) so that's probably why. Most of my videos are about the natural areas around my city and tractors, combine harvesters, agriculture fields, etc.

      Hi there, I think the best way to show you is if you go onto the ss website and read up on how to contribute and also to watch my many videos about stock photography. There is one I did with my mobile phone in France and I show how I upload the pics. First you have to make enough good photos, be accepted as a contributor and then you can start uploading. I might also make a video about how to get accepted by SS. Although there are plenty out there.

    I have a phone now, but always wanted to buy a mirrorless to start stock photography. I realized that I should try to use what I have currently 1st, rather than buying new stuff that will only regret later.
    I have 1 question tho, if you were to upgrade from the Iphone SE to a better camera, what will u get? maybe a mirrorless Sony? 🤣

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  Рік тому +1

      because i use the canon system with lenses, I would upgrade to a Canon R8 mirrorless. But if you haven't yet invested in a particular sustem yet you can choose for which one is best for you. Keep shooting!

    May I add that a rarely shoot stills in jpg. Nearly always it is shot RAW, to make each picture look as good as it can. Then I save it in large jpg. All the site minimums have been 4 megs. Of course, a phone will only store in jpg, but they are big now, up to minimums.

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  3 роки тому

      Hi Jim, the iPhone SE 2020 and up stores photos in HIEF format too. A compressed RAW file. It stores it as a 1-3 mp file and then you can export a 8-12 MP jpg. Not sure how the other phones do it though.

    Hi Andrew, how about mid-range android smartphone? Do they produce acceptable footage for shutterstock? I want to buy new phone for shutterstock purpose, i have 2 option for my budget, mid range android or old iphone (iP7 or 8)

    • @andrewbalcombe1338

      I don't have android experience. But I think look for the best specs, for example 4k 60p. After that, look at the lens options and MP resolution.

    Great video Andrew, when it comes to video footage, what type of time length do you aim for? I realize it's going to vary but do you often just try to capture short 5 or 10 second clips?

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Craig, thanks for the comment. I try to get clips of up to 30 seconds. But if it is longer than 5 seconds it's an acceptable length for the agencies. I heard they have extended the length of acceptible clips to up to a minute now though. Not sure if that's accurate though. Cheers!

    When you first put a picture online at a site, how long was it before you first got money, and how much was it?

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  3 роки тому

      Hi Jim,
      Uploaded photos usually take a long time before they start selling, unless it's of a subject that is highly sought after or in the news. With my portfolio, I could upload a batch of images and only 10-20% will sell at all. It's very difficult to tell how long it'll take before a photo or video sells.

    Hi Andrew, can I ask about the resolution you take your photos in - is there a way of changing the iphone dpi to 300, and/or do you use an app to take photos in RAW format?

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Maria, I normally just upload my iphone pic straight from my phone to the wirestock or SS app and they are accepted usually.
      300 dpi is often the resolution required by print publications. My iPhone SE has a photo resolution of 4032x3024. I believe this means that it can produce 300 dpi printed photos up to a certain size ( i think it's around 13 inches by 10 inches), which is more than enough for many magazines etc. I'm no expert though, so do your own research. I can create HEIC files in my iPhone, which are a kind of compressed RAW file. I can edit it in Lightroom and then export a 10MB pic as a JPG. In truth, i've only ever used my camera when I know my pics will be specifically used in a magazine. But I think, within certain parameters, the iPhone can be used too.
