Speaking from experience, unless the missile is lined up perfectly it's way easier and faster to just shoot it until it dies. In eggsecutive vp you don't have the time nor space to back up, align yourself with the missile and maybe 1 out of 3 times get it to hit.

Here’s a pro tip for Slammin’ Lid. Swim up to the barrier, trigger it, then squid roll back
I also noticed that whatever it crushes beneath it tends to be destroyed, even other salmonids!
For me, the main problem is that there are often too many salmonids for me to eliminate by myself completely, so when I trigger it, I get pushed in.
