    This works for OMTech and Monport Lasers
    EDIT: AT 8:16 THAT IS NOT A DIODE, THAT IS A RESISTOR. I WILL LOOK INTO MAKING ANOTHER VIDEO TO INSTALL A DIODE. THE DIODE SHOULD ONLY HAVE ONE STRIPE ON IT AND WILL BE CONNECTED BETWEEN THE TWO POWER TERMINALS. THE END OF THE DIODE WITH THE STRIPE WILL CONNECT TO THE 24V SIDE, THE OTHER END WILL CONNECT TO THE TERMINAL THAT IS WIRED TO THE WIND OR STATUS TERMINALS ON YOUR CONTROLLER

    My installation allows for air to be on from the compressor all the time not only running when the laser is running. Meaning you are not blowing compressed air the entire time your machine is on, but instead only when the laser is on. In doing so I still am able to have two different air flows for cut layers vs engrave layers. This is all controlled via turning the air assist on or off for a particular layer in Lightburn

    Great kit list and install instructions. All the components arrived today and I am planning to tackle the install next week! Just a heads up, the link to the 6mm flow control valves on your site actually takes you to 8mm flow control valves. Just noticed it when my materials arrived. Free returns and replacement 6mm valves set to arrive early next week. Thanks again for the great tutorial. Look forward to completing the mod on my laser!

    First off awesome video and thank you for taking the time to video this as it makes it so easy to follow along. Any tips on what to set the air pressure at? Just waiting dor the 6 pin connector to come in and I will install the kit on mone before I level it off and set it lol

      glad the video helped. for the cutting layers i usually run about 35 to 30 psi. for engraving i close the needle valve then open it back up about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. jut enough to get the air to flow thru the nozzle to keep the smoke off the lens

    Awesome install video! Thank you! With the low pressure line, does it only run when there is power to the laser tube or when there is power to the Rudia?

      Thank you. The low pressure line should be open/blowing only when the laser tube is powered . The high pressure line will be on only when the laser tube is firing and air assist is turned on in Lightburn

      you can locate them wherever you would like. just make sure its out of the way of the bed and in a secure location

    so with the original setup was the air assist always on? I'm going to do this on my 60W Monport. BTW, both lines have same pressure, what you are changing is the FLOW rate, hence called a flow control.

    After a few months of searching i was finally able to find your video that shows me everything that i needed to make my own automatic air assist. I've had pumps before but using relays to power them on or off automatically sometimes causes power spikes in the line making the machines reboot (prob poor grounding on chineses air pumps). with your video im able to do my own setup with my compressor and even modify it to be able to run 2 machines at the same time from the same compressor and keeping the automatic function working! thank you!
    Just one question do both solenoids close as soon as the power is off on the machine or they keep the previous state?
    Asking this because if they stay on the current state and you need to close the air from the compressor yourself then its not need 2 Solenoids, you just had to use 1 to allow high pressure to pass (Air Assist ON) and the flow control on the second line to be gentle air (Air Assist OFF)

      glad it worked out for you. its been a while since i set this uo but i beleiev thry both close. many of the other setups that onky use one solenoid require the user to manually turn the air on and off. this setup does not require that with the 2nd solenoid. air is completely controlled thru lightburn and nothing blows when the machine is off

    I enjoyed your detailed UA-cam video, and I think we have identical machines, including Kt322N controller
    I'm having a problem. I wired the LP solenoid to the status terminal and air flows as soon as the machine is turned on. The HP solenoid works fine
    When I'm running a job with the Lightburn air assist turned on, both solenoids are on.
    I assumed that the output terminals would be live only when the laser is on. I'm finding that this is the case only with the HP solenoid wired to the air terminal
    Any suggestions?

      I am guessing something is wired incorrectly. The LP (low pressure line) air should only turn on when the laser is firing. The HP (high pressure line) should only open when the laser is firing AND air assist is on for the particular layer being engraved. I suggest you double check all of your wiring

    Great video!! It has helped so much. I just have one question because I'm a visual learner and with all the reds I am confused... I have my blue electrical wire in the one with the flow control valve, which spot (status or wind) does the blue wire go ? I used red , green , and then blue and white. Thank you :)

      the solenoid with the flow control valve should be wired to the status terminal. check out the wiring diagrams on me website. hopefully they will help too

    Hey there thanks for putting this video together. I am finally looking at upgrading my air on my 60 w big blue Chinese laser. Would your kit that's available compatible with that?

    did you ever switch the resistor for the diode? is that actually needed to be done? just ordered everything but wanting to make sure i should install the diode. thanks for the great video!

      you don't want to switch the resistor for the diode. i misspoke when i called the resistor a diode. you should leave the resistor along and add the diode still. see notes in the description for which way to install.

      Great video, I have an 80w coming and I’m looking through your mod videos.
      Can you clarify the function of the diode in the solenoid for me? To prevent power back feeding to the board? Doesn’t the solenoid already have that as part of its own electronics?

      @@neilphillips9163 its purpose is to short out the back emf when the power is cut. When that happens the power stored in the coil will reverse and the diode will short it out so that control circuit is not damaged.

    A lot of relays do not have an internal "protection" diode" that prevents a back EMF - kickback voltage from the coil when the magnetic field collapses after turning off. These voltages can measure in the hundreds of volts and with using a ONE DOLLAR DIODE - typically a 1N4007, (700 PIV @ 1 amp), you can help prevent the damage that can occur to the device that controls the relay. Install the diode across the relay's coil's wires with the Cathode -banded end - to the positive coil wire and the Anode - looks like letter "A" viewed right side up to the relay negative wire. When the coils is turned off, the diode shunts-shorts the coil's kickback voltage from flowing back into the control circuit. This is how I wired my relay to control an external AC powered air assist for my laser. The laser outputs 24 volts DC to power the stock air assist so I used a 24 volt, (coil rating), DC relay to control a 120 volt AC air pump. SO, don't take my word for it, look it up and discover that this is a way to protect sensitive electronics from damage due to a relay's kickback - back EMF - voltage that is very easily preventable....

      i do not unfortunately. the diode goes between the two terminals on the solenoid.

    Since 24 volt is a simple circuit, "Ground" is like the "Neutral"...the return path completing the circuit.

    Is the 2 solenoid approach used because you have an always on air compressor? I have a dedicated airbrush type compressor for mine and only use one relay for dual air control. If it helps others in this case you can use the status line to power up the compressor and have that coupled with a single solenoid setup on a Y with the second part of the Y flow straight through to a reducer. In this case the laser fires up and status turns on the compressor and if the layer has air assist off it just flows through the branch of the Y with the restrictor, when air assist is turned on that enables the single solenoid on the other leg of the Y so you get high pressure flow. When status goes off - the SSR shuts down the compressor
    Or short version - instead of 2 solenoids and an always on air supply, you can also have the air supply on a relay/SSR and then control low vs high air supply with a single solenoid

      yes, i always leave me compressor on. I have an 80 gallon compressor located in my garage that i use for other purposes as well. so i keep it on all the time. i'm curious though what kind of psi you get out of your airbrush type compressor. For cutting i generally run around 25 psi.

      It is a beefy one I think originally meant for some medical purpose (maybe Dental) it reaches about 10PSI at around 3CFM

    Is it possible to leave the wiring on the old air assist pump and run to led strips inside the unit for extra light?

      it may be possible but i havent looked into so i am not 100% sure. as an alternative i upgraded my led lights by cutting the wire to the stock led lights and under the gantry and tapped into thay wire instead

    is it needed to have two flows? can't you control everything with one solenoid? what is the benefit? I'm like a week away from doing all my upgrades all at once. i have the chiller upgrade, i have the exhaust fan upgrade, i have the lights upgrade, but im still researching more on the air assist. your video seems like i can save myself the hassle of adding a 2nd solenoid later on. can you explain more on benefits of low pressure and high pressure lines? based on your answer below, does lightburn automatically change from low to high power when cutting? if you are not cutting what is the benefit of have low air still coming out?

      you want two flows, 1 for cutting and 1 for engraving. the higher flow on cutting helps give a cleaner cut along with other benefits. the lower flow on engraving is really just to keep the lens clean. Lightburn will switch between low and high as long as everything is set up properly and you choose air assist to be on or off in your Lightburn layer settings. I have more information on my website about what air assist does that might help clarify.

    So to clarify, the low pressure line actuates with the power on to the laser, otherwise it is off when it the laser is off? Also good video.

      The low pressure actuates when the laser is firing only. The high pressure actuates only when the laser is firing AND air assist for that layer is turn on.. If the laser is not firing there should be no air flow.

    Does the RYXON support 300mA per output. 300mA for Aux Air and 300 mA for Status? Or is it 300mA for both in total? I‘m a bit confused, can I safely operate two solenoids 24v 6W without the risk to burn the RYXON controller board ?

      i am not sure i completely understand the question but as you see in the video i have the two solenoids hooked up. I have not had any issues at all with mine.

    dose the neutral connect to the ground as there is only two terminal on the solenoid. the video leaves this out and wanted to double check

    Just tried the air assist setup with one solenoid, will not work correctly. I have one on my other laser, not an Omtech but hooked up the same way, works. I have both wind connection and status like yours, tried both ways non working. Anything you can Think of that would help.Thank You.

      My setup is based on two solenoids. So I wouldn't expect it to work correctly with only one solenoid. Did you turn the air assist on in the machine settings? Is it wired correctly? Plumbed correctly?

    I have a question - why did you keep the old air assist inside the machine?

      it is unhooked. I unwired it and cut the air line too. You can remove no problem. I just didn't have a need to use it elsewhere

      the resistor should already come installed on the solenoid. the diode is addition and should be added. check the video description for more details on how to orient for installation

    let me see if i have this straight...
    when you start lightburn to burn a file the low pressure comes on imminently ...then when lightburn get to a layer that the air assist is set to on the high pressure comes on and continues until that layer is finished then the high turns off and goes back to low pressure..when the entire burn is complete and light burn stops the file all air turns off...is that correct..?
    question....what do you do if you want to burn a file with no air at all..? disconnect the compressor..?

      That's right. If you want no air at all you would have to disconnect, shut off the air compressor or close the needle vale and set air assist to off.
      I have not run into a time when I don't want any air. The low pressure helps keep the lens clean. In fact i have my needle valve almost all the way closed so almost none comes thru. No air means it very susceptible to the lens getting dirty or damaged much easier

      I would not recommend that. Its ok to go bigger but I would not go smaller personally.

      not sure on that one. I only have a single head machine so i don't really know how the wiring or anything works on the double head machines. although i suspect you could probably do a similar setup and just tie your final air line into you existing air lines

      did you check to make sure your solenoid is working properly? also i cannot answer this without verifying your wiring is done correctly

      @@oeadesignworks well it was actually working but the power and trigger wires were reversed and it wasn't allowing the led to come on even though it was working. Instructions said it didn't matter but I guess it does. Swapped wires and light comes on now. Thank you

    I went through the video for the air filter/water separator and I am still not getting any pressure. It's just blowing out of the bottom. Do you have any suggestions?

      It's blowing out the bottom of the water separator? Is the bowl on it? Maybe you got a bad one. Possibly try sending back and getting a new one?

      @@oeadesignworks Yes, it's blowing out of the bottom glass area. I can reach back out to Boss and see what might be going on.

      @Tiffany Mosser this is on a boss laser? Did they provide the regulator/bowl? The bottom of the glass should have a small pin and spring. This allows the water to drain out once it accumulates. Unless you are pressing on it though it shouldn't blow air. It may not be seated properly and ultimately letting air out

      @OEADesignWorks Yes, I have a Boss Laser. It did come with the glass bowl and pin. When I press gently pull down on the pin, it stops flowing out, but there's no pressure.

      @@tiffanymosser3606 the air pressure should push that pin down from the inside. That's only for draining water. You don't want air coming out that pin all the time. Only if you push up on it and drain all the water

      @@oeadesignworks think the solenoid is no good? not worried about my wiring that was triple checked. the full air kicks on i can hear that solenoid click the low side doesn't do anything. also the restrictor is fully closed and alot of air coming out i dont notice any difference with pressure while adjusting the set screw

      Bad solenoid is a possibility
