We explore an abandoned castle. An extravagant dream became reality when a local man returned to his hometown with his fortune to create a place to share with loved ones and his community.
The dilapidated remains of his family mansion, holds a deep level tunnel beneath it, leading you across the grounds to a magical grotto…
There’s a colourful market square, a chapel, and a castle lookout…
The local people greatly admired this man for his contributions to the town and he even became count before passing away in 1926.
His creative masterpiece remains all these years later, hidden in plain site behind it’s perimeter wall… a wasted paradise.

What a beautiful castle with all its intricate details. I love the marble and the exposed stone. It would have been quite majestic when finished. It’s sad to see the graffiti all over it but it’s still beautiful. Someone should put this gorgeous place to good use. It’s a pity that such a gorgeous place was never completed and inhabited! It definitely seems as if the curse worked. I’d like to know the reason why the hotel never made a go of it....what caused then to abandon their plans??!! I know the curse was behind it but what actually happened???

What a shame this place is just left to ruins. It would have been absolutely beautiful if completely finished. The outside is my favourite though. It just looks magical. I would love to own a place like this! I love the footage at the start, outside looking up at the height of the structure with the moon right above. That's an awesome shot. Would make a great picture to hang on a wall.

That was incredibly heartbreaking to think that no one will ever be able to rescue that I don’t normally believe in curses, However with that said being as no one ever did inhabit it and everything seems to fall through since then. Stunning architecture in the places that are finished I love the old stonework needs to be somebody who is a cynic by it and make it there home. What a gorgeous architectural structure!!! There have been breakups since the beginning of time…sooo why the curse… can curses be broken??? If I had the astronomical amount of money that it would take to restore & renovate this epic castle, I would have someone break the curse, make it into a phenomenal property & live happily ever after 👍🙏❤️ Of course, that being said, would need for me, to be in another lifetime, as I am handicapped, non- ambulatory & certainly not able to transverse the staircases!!! But… a non handicapped person would love to have this property 👍🙏❤️ The views were spectacular, the architecture unmatched & the best part… no paranormal activity, as there have been no deaths at the castle 👍🙏❤️ Thank you Sam & Jess for another spectacular, phenomenal castle!!! You know that I love castle’s ❤️❤️❤️ Love your Portugal trip👍🙏❤️❤️❤️ PS… the mausoleum was architecturally gorgeous ❤️❤️❤️

This is a chance of a lifetime to see and to actually be inside such a castle
I think it was more of an undertaking for the second couple to bring the house up to code? They could not afford as much as they may have thought once they actually owned it and found out more about it?
This could be used as a prop for a scary movie now and think it would truly be a winner! Maybe if they have the right amount of money the film production company could fix it up to look truly mideival and what they cannot do would maybe be alright for something like that?
I personally would not want to purchase a cursed castle! It could have been absolutely stunning had it not been cured and people were able to afford to finish it properly! Someone putting movie together certainly would find many twists and turns even if they did get it fixed, they may have come across

The developers who originally wanted to "finish" and furnish this black elephant actually tore it back down further defining the "curse"! LOL!

The exterior is my favorite. Too bad the interior has been so chopped up with new walls and other construction for when it was used as a restaurant, bar and dance venue for a few years. The very compact cemetery next to the church adds ambience.
My father bought a twentyfive bedroom victorian house to renovate which he did all himself. The original house burnt down in he eighteen hundreds before that an ancient monestry stood there and there is a long secret tunnel, and the woods are haunted because there is this massive tree, the trunk is about eighteen to twenty feet around with peoples initials cut into it, but nothing lives there its totally silent except one rabbit with mixamatosis, our dogs would go there here ran me out flying on their leads really scary. Very deep woods backed onto Macmillans land

when the fellow was reading that the price went from 2.5 million euros to 1.2 million a cpl of years later, who gets the money if sold? the Portugal Gov't? IF so, they should sell the place for $1 on the condition that the purchaser MUST have the funds & intention to completely redo/renovate it, as a Hotel, it would be the Grandest! Plus it would bring more tourism into the Country as well. Although, all that typed, I would NEVER be able to afford to fly there and even afford 1 nights stay at such a grandly repurposed place. Okay, back to reality...PS: ThankU yet again to Sam & Jess for taking me where I can never physically go :) PS Sam/Jess do you 2 have a home base? IF so, where? also, how long have you been on the road? I only discovered your site by accident, my first video was the HarborMaster bldg (Scotland) but have now enjoyed a handful tours more, kind regards from me, Tracy now in Eastern Canada (formerly Western Canada most of my life tho)

Thank you. That was amazing! A true castle. What a shame it has a curse. My friend took me to a Victorian house before work one time and it was so beautiful! People were living there and had it decorated with antiques and statues. I didn't get to see it all. What i did see was gorgeous! We went to work after seeing it an I'm sitting there working an started crying. My friend said why are you crying! I said that house is so beautiful i want to live there. I've never had that reaction from any other house but that one. It went up for sale for 89,000 in the late 80s and i didn't have enough money to buy it. My country USA is going to have a freedom truck convoy. Canada had one an they parked in front of Parliament for 3 weeks. It was so peaceful and beautiful but then some army came in an hurt the people an they were pushed out yesterday. So sad and was really hard watching them get hurt. A guy started playing a painted Indian drum an walk through all the protesters to the front line an stood in front of the police line and played that drum an it got quiet and settled down police and everyone. I don't know what he was playing but it was like magic. FREEDOM YEAHHHH
