The Manufactured Authenticity of Brett Cooper

- A lot of people dismiss Brett Cooper as a female Ben Shapiro, and while there's a tiny bit of truth in that, I think there's a larger story here about how these right wing media figures take shape, and what it says about our desire for authenticity.
This video is really just a brief exploration of the idea, and some reflecting on how operating in this UA-cam space incentivizes the performance of authenticity for financial gain. Something sadly not unique to being a political talking head.

"I was not raised in a political household by any means. My mother was a student of objectivism."
To me these are two directly contradictory statements. But I guess maybe it's a product of objectivists thinking that their worldview is, well, objective, and therefore not political? The same way that a lot of people don't think they have an accent, but others do?
Her mother only stated things like "1+1=2." Every time anything related to politics came up, Brett's family would immediately go blank-faced. Unrelatedly, Brett now works for the Daily Wire.
People in general seem to ignore or reject the presence of a political part in most things they themselves aspouse to like. Everything with meaning has some political grain in it, and everything without meaning just as well. Mainly, my guess, because they implicitly see "political" as bad or something to be avoided, whether consciously or not.

I have PTSD flashbacks anytime someone cites ancient Rome. No, Rome did not fall because they became 'weak men'. Rome fell because every empire eventually falls, nothing lasts forever. The Romans slowly lost influence due to civil wars, plagues and external wars. You could be the manliest civilization of all time and one day your enemies will figure you out, that's how warfare works.
Nah bro, they drank too many soy milk lattes at the StariusBuckus /j
ALSO, Rome was Christian at the time it fell!!!! Ppl talk about it like Rome got too pagan and degenerate when in reality it just got too big, and slowly declined due to the world changing. Hell, the Eastern empire didn't even fall for centuries and it was super Christian. It wasnt soft men making Rome fall, it was just inevitable change
And they always only reference the western Roman Empire. Meanwhile the eastern Roman Empire aka the Byzantine empire lived up till the mid 15th century so about 1000 after the fall of the western Roman Empire
Don't you know empires are supposed to stand the test of time? At least that's what Civ tells me, and Sid Meier wouldn't lie to me
Watch Caligula, its a more realistic depiction of an aristocracy then anything from the BBC. Rome fell bc its elites stole all the resources for themselves then abandoned the empire to be ransacked while retreating to their own estates. That's how most empires fall. Its always the greed of the elite. Same thing is happening in America. Public institutions are being starved while the vast majority of our tax dollars go to a military industrial complex and even the infrastructure of the army is being degraded as even the actual weapons of war being made are bogus money sinks (it costs millions of dollars per year in maintenance just fly a drone and ten of millions to fly a manned jet, all of which can't be done by military personnel but by law have to be by the plane's manufacturer's subcontractors that the company charges insane prices like $5000 _an hour_ for their services -and no that's not going to the worker, many aren't even getting benefits). Its a vicious bur predictable cycle we're living thru. Lucky us🙄

>Brett Cooper when DW wants 'a young cute girl' to push conservative talking points to a gen z demographic: 🥰🥰🥰
She was literally a political hire but as a conservative she is unfortunately too thick in the head to realize
You do realize that what people complain about is not that there's ns on the screen, the issue is that the stories that are being told are cringe woke propaganda. Every actor could be white and it would still be awful.
Thank you this was bugging me so much. As soon as the lady said she was looking for a young woman to host the show I was like BUT THAT'S WHAT YOU JUST SAID YOU HATED!!!
The young cute girl comment gave me the major ick and also said a lot about the intended target audience. Reminded me of the Solari video about how right-wing media exploits conventionally attractive Conservative women.
Also, when studios do representation, it's for profit, according to her. But when they do conservative messaging, it's for truth. It's just the typical insular, self-obsessed, narcissistic side of conservatism that you see all the time in the United States. Maybe one of the reasons those kinds of conservatives are often anti-science, is because they don't like the idea that the world doesn't revolve around them.
I think it's so interesting that Cooper is not a stereotypically feminine woman at all, similar to Candance Owens. They have masculine traits and even interests, are outspoken career women and public figures, yet they go against their own reality/wants in the politics they spew.
Are those traits and interests masculine? Or are they traditional?
@@thisbarbieisboredI think they mean that Brett Cooper overall doesn't have the usual hyper-pink "femininity" or that well polished look.
Well Cooper is young. She's likely following current trends of her generation, which is normal. She dresses well.
And to be frank, if I didn't know her and this whole Daily Wire thing, she just appears as any regular good looking woman in her 20s.
And that's the thing: Brett Cooper is a human being.
Her interests have nothing to do with what should be "girly" or "boyish".
How she presents herself is...how she wants it to be.
And unfortunately the Daily Wire and the rest of the ones who are part of running her show are doing a good job in maintaining that. Plus points, Brett seems absolutely invested in doing this.
Bro you clearly haven't watched anything she has made

They are all masculine and therefore not conservative. They are liberal women.
Very interesting that she left the film industry because they were asking for [insert gender/ethnicity] stories, to find out she was hired because they wanted "a cute girl" for the job. Ironic.
It’s hilarious how pressed these people are getting as soon as any other demographic gets highlighted but the Left are “too delicate.”
They really are out here pining for their unearned cultural dominance because they’re just so reasonable and logical.
Whenever i hear a conservative making the excuse that they weren't getting any roles because of diversity or anything like that i just know that it was actually because they were bad at their work.
Perhaps if Hollywood wouldn't shun white representation she would have eventually made it on some level. Idk
How? That makes no sense. She wasn't allowed to write stories that she thought were important so she left. She went somewhere that needed a woman that fit her characteristics and she was given the license to produce content on things she liked. She did literally nothing wrong. Yall are just mad that she didn't stay at a job she hated.
Not ironic at all. Media companies are superficial by their nature. Walking away from media companies that are going out of their way to not include too many people who look like her, to going to one that is, makes nothing but sense.

wooden plank is just perfect. lol.
Woden plank???? This fucking language i'm never gonna be able to understand anything.
A wooden plank is a material used to build something, like a foundation. The DW uses her like a material for their foundation that is currently falling

We need more GEN Z like her to save this crumbling society
She really wants to be a famous actress. Conservative media has a lot lower standard to meet, she gets to star in all these Daily Wire movies and TV shows while also making a lot of money. She doesn't care if what she is doing is actually good or have merit, she just wants fame and success.

@@MrToryhere quick history/political compass lesson.
The political "Right" desire a more authoritarian structure in which power is consolidated.
The political "Left" want to more evenly distribute power amongst more people.
This has been the case since the terms were birthed in France describing those on the right side of a room wanting to reestablish a monarchy, and those on the left side of the room opposed to having a single person rule. (Time period: French Revolution, room in question was part of the National Assembly)
Indoctrination is quite literally antithetical to democratization of power. The "Left" by nature of its position can not utilize it.
Empathy and education, things counter to indoctrination are what the "Left" wants.
@@atrution And that's why so many kids OD and die. Because the left doesn't like the idea of 'guiding' young inexperienced children in directions that see them understanding that becoming a drug addict is bad for you.
Providing guidance to children is not authoritarianism, it is parenting.
Authoritarianism is literally using the power of the state against adults, to force them to comply. Which is why it's a left wing trait, not a right wing one. Because forcing errant adults to comply requires manpower to police them, and small government right wing states should have a serious lack of manpower to do that. Unlike left wing states that by doctrine employ a massive number of people, who all need something to do.
In all fairness, the 'other views' in this case are: grown men, with fake tits in drag, gender theory, homosexuality. It's pretty reasonable to shield children from all of those things.
@@atrution "The political "Left" want to more evenly distribute power amongst more people"! When you say the idea of Scouts allowing in girls has already existed for a few years, that’s a massive understatement. When I joined my troop in the early 00s, we had a Ventures crew, specifically created several years prior because the sisters of some of the boys had wanted a chance to join and, after doing research, learned that the Ventures already existed in the BSA structure
So if it was already a thing and existed for years now, why did they need to change the Boy Scouts?
I wonder if the girl scouts allow boys to join ...
They do not, and if the US had a history of denying opportunities for advancement or participation in aspects of society to boys based on their sex, the comparison might be more valid.
@@Jay-yr9oi Why does there need to exist a history? The comparison is completely valid. We are living in this time right now, treating people a certain way RIGHT NOW in THIS TIME. If girls can join boy scouts, boys should be able to join girl scouts, yet that is not the case. It is still sexism, even without a history of denying opportunity (which is arguable based on context anyway).
Because, the history is very relevant to why the organization was founded in the first place, and pretending history doesn’t impact situations today is just burying your head in the sand. It’s the same reason boys sports allow girls to join a team but boys can’t join girls teams

“What Brett Cooper is presenting here is a counterfeit for having real politics.”
Is SUCH a good line!
It seems to be a thing throughout conservativism. Conservatives are incapable of creating or learning, so they create fake versions of whatever they want to supplant. Conservative-specific movies have the typical structure, but only exist as a fantasy world for sociopaths. Conservative-infected versions of religions claim to read the same book but only when they can use it against us. Ditto for music, commentary, politics, etc. They look at real ideas and products with real love behind them and create soulless fakes whose only role is to rub the conservative behind the ears and coo, "yes, yes, you're a good wittle patriot, yes you are!" It's like North Korean propaganda. It's creepy as hell.
Something else to note is that to a lot of conservatives, these politics aren't counterfeit at all, that the symbolic gestures are just as important, if not _more_ important than changing material conditions, especially given a lot of conservatives tend towards "magical thinking" even if they aren't actively Christian.
Much like Breitbart's statement that "politics is downstream from culture" conservatives direct most of their energy at culture war issues and policing the behavior of others because they believe material conditions will naturally improve on their own if people live according to conservative values, whether that's because literally God is rewarding them for their piety or more abstractly because conservative values are inherently (they feel, with no actual evidence) the perfect societal model that gives people what they inherently deserve, and any problems aren't flaws in the system itself, but individuals either failing to live by its dictates or believing they deserve more than what the system dictated.
Climate change, poverty, crimes of all kinds, conservatives believe that the culture war is literally the solution to all these things because if the culture is adhered to, these problems solve themselves, or they're something they're meant to endure for a greater reward (i.e. wealth for putting up with a shitty job, or Heaven after death).
@@zoushaomenohu > Climate change, poverty, crimes of all kinds, conservatives believe that the culture war is literally the solution to all these things because if the culture is adhered to, these problems solve themselves
That's quite literally the modern left wing position that the state is capable of fixing everything if it follows the right policies. Rosseau's notion of "tabula rasa" -- clean slate. That you can be manufactured, by society and government, to hold certain views and do certain things. Basically achieving outcomes through total societal and governmental manipulation. And that all the woes of society and all the bad acts of a person are all because society hasn't purged those behaviors out. It's the most anti-scientific political stance out there as it completely neglects so much about what we know of humans.
Plenty of progressives, all starting from Paulo Friere, view the world this way. Politics is their religion, the state their god. They think utopia is achievable and therefore the ends justify the means with how they act.
We have a surge of crime in ALL progressive-run cities, all because they think social aspects of society are pushing these people into a world of crime. This is asinine at every level and has proven to be such, which is why 1 by 1 ALL of these progressive cities are backtracking on their policies.

Because she wouldn't be successful as a real streamer, at least not right away, which would damage her brand. Also, live streaming isn't the best medium for reading from a script with no ability to edit around mistakes. Actually, it's mainly the second thing.
Because if they had her doing livestreaming, she would inevitably break character and say something she isn't supposed to. Also kinda difficult to read a script on a livestream too.
The Daily Wire cannot compete on Kick because that site allows open neonazis.
Cause they are boomers and are always 10 years behind the tech

Nobody who talks about the Scouting America thing ever gets this right -- they always talk about (the organization formerly known as) Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA as if they're allied organizations that form a binary system where girls go to one side and boys go to the other. In reality they are completely unrelated organizations. They're both part of the scouting movement, but they're not even part of the same worldwide scouting movement organizations.
If they actually cared about the Girl Scouts they would be upset at Scouting America's attempt to push in on their market share.
I appreciate you breaking it down for us here. I didn't know that.
Yes! GSUSA has nothing to do with BSA, which is honestly a good thing given BSA's long history of scandals, abuse, and homophobia. There is also very little that boy scouts do that Girl Scouts don't also have available. Honestly I think Girl Scouts have more opportunities because in addition to all of the traditionally "masculine" badges and programs they have, you can also do in depth badges on sewing, cooking, and other home-ec kinds of things that were generally shunned by boys.
I bet her mind would have been blown if she looked up Venture Scouting, which has been co-ed since 1969.

@@stevesteiner7220 Why? Anyone who gets a job would have an identical "out of thin air" experience for that venue. They were not there one day and are the next.
This "wary" thing should be about government propaganda and manipulation. Not about people doing there thing without the marketing machine, getting discovered, and then having a larger audience.
ANY filmmaker who was discovered by making an indie film in the 90s also came "out of thin air" then. No. They did it, and then got a bigger megaphone. As South Park made a Christmas Card that got legs, found the right person and then got a show on the air - she got access to a larger audience because someone found her.
I see no reason to be wary unless you're saying she is faking her own beliefs, opinions and person - reading scripted ideas she does not believe it - to be a face for something. But even that is what all marketing is.
Any person selected to represent any product, business, service or idea is picked to represent it well by looks, charisma, succinct communication skills or other such attributes that are beyond their specific qualifications for the product, business or service or idea itself.
I just don't see that as being "wary."
Moments of success only APPEAR to be "out of thin air" and are preceded by a similar work and presence that is simply more anonymous - often times not by choice, but because breaking through is very difficult without that larger marketing machine.

Saying this hypothetical is "hyperbolic" handwaves away the stupidity of the women answering "the bear".
There are people in this comment section who have openly said it isn't hyperbolic.
@Jay-qu2bc its not stupidity. Last time I checked, bears can't own guns or knives, they are expected to be in a forest, and they don't have a statistical reputation for stalking and assaulting people on repeat as an offender. In fact, wild animals tend to try to avoid humans. They especially aren't just there just to potentially take advantage, sexual or other, of someone being alone.
Humans already have more potential for destruction than a bear in general. Statistically, men are the ones who do the most destruction. So the chances that the random guy in the forest has your best interest, regardless of you being male or female, isn't that high, actually.
@@flutterg1035 "they don't have a statistical reputation for assaulting people on repeat as an offender."

If you look at the people directing and funding Brett Cooper and TP, you’ll probably find the oldest conservatives ever trying to appeal to young people. Think of that Steve Buscemi “fellow kid” meme.
This is genuinely just how ideology ebs and flows through human society. Young people are newer to the culture of adults, so the problems are more obvious to them, and being expected to "go along to get along" simply because that's the way things have been for so long. The older generation have invested time labor and money into the current culture, and are therefore resistant to any changes that might destabilize what they've accomplished. But older generations bear the responsibility of understanding this eb and flow and not grow resentful and hateful of what is an inevitable process, one they were probably on the other end of in their own youths. It's really pretty simple, even if none of it is easy.

The Only Way Is Too Grow Up Out Of This Bullshit
Even if she believes in everything she's saying, it's still fake for a number of reasons. 1) The image projected is of an independent UA-camr putting out videos with her own personal political opinions. However the reality is that it's a fake set made in a TV studio & she works for a corporation funded by billionaires with a nefarious political agenda. She uses a script & the show is produced. There's nothing authentic. 2) She was hired because her "beliefs" 100% are in line with the company's agenda. If they weren't, she would never have been hired. If they ever change, she will be let go. 3) She was groomed for this role. The company was looking for a "young cute girl" to be the host of the show. Why do youth and looks matter? It helps drive the propaganda. Beauty is used to manipulate people. That's why almost everybody in TV & movies is young & attractive. She's an actress in the role of B Shapiro female.
She never voiced herself as independent. She was open from day 1 about being part of Daily Wire. So right out the gate, on #1, you're flat out wrong. Also, she told people it's a fake set years ago.
#2 is asinine. They're a media outlet that is open about their views and actually this is how media outlets used to operate before the fake era of neutral journalism (Cronkite era). European nations still have a bit more of this where media outlets are willing to admit they're more partisan than pretend with the charades of being neutral or fair. It also doesn't apply to your opening statement of it also being fake still. You don't have much experience writing essays I feel like, as you already failed to have just your 2nd point match up with your premise.
#3 is right. She was hired for being young and pretty. Is newscasters, reporters, and general media personalities being good looking a new concept to you?? At the same time you mention Ben, who isn't a looker. Neither is a bunch of their staff. So you and I are both just making an assumption but it's not like they follow a pattern.
I don't even watch Brett but most of the takes against her here are just hateful, non-sensical drivel. You disagree with her politically and instead of tackling any particular viewpoint she has you attacked her authenticity and qualifications (despite her obviously being successful for Daily Wire).
Also, if she falls out of line, she would 100% get fired. Just look at how Candace Owens got booted so fast after speaking up about Israel's genocide against Palestine.
1) Explain why isnt it authentic how is it impossible for her to think like this? I did watch decent amount of her vids so i understand where she aligns. 2) Political corporation, do you say the same thing to lets say, young turks, sam seder or anything that is political oriented? i guess makes sense to hire someone that aligns with you. 3) Groomed? You got be sure about you are saying before making such accusations. Its true that people seem to respect youth and looks, hell i see ALOT OF left wingers making fun of peoples appearances sadly. Coming from a country where scouting was never gender segregated, the whole Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts thing has always weirded me out.
Well if it helps think of it this way we have two Scout programs one were they do less of the cool stuff and the other has child diddlers.
@@stephennootens916 I meant that the fact that US has gender segregated scouting troops weirds me out. I'm fully aware of how each of them (and other similar orgs) operate. With US having had a chokehold on global pop culture for decades, I couldn't escape knowing about it even if I tried.
@@biancaroyale3741 OK I don't know if this will help with the weirdness but the boy scouts of america was founded in the early twentieth century as part of the progressive movement at the time it was heavily supported by Teddy Roosevelt and push patriotism and service. If I recall it was sort of pipeline to military services. The girl scouts pretty much showed up on the scene right after them as I remember. They are two completely separate organizations so the idea of merging them has never came up.
That said I feel like on the whole even though the boy scotts claim to be the biggest scouting group they are not that popular or cool. Their best years seemed to have been in the fifties and early sixties. What made them cool to boys were things like learning to start fires and getting swiss arm knives. And now neither of those are all that cool far as I can tell and add in their sex scandal. Letting girls in and dropping boy was to rebrand themselves and keep a float in world were your average ten year old would rather watch youtube or play videogames than freeze their asses off in the woods and hope they don't get molested.

I was interested to hear that her mother tried to limit her exposure to Disney tbh.

I love people that come on podcasts to complain that their voice isn't heard or represented..."read my book, attend my show where I tell you all about how my voice is being silenced."
Well if you are right wing you get demonetized. If you are left wing you can potentially earn a lot on UA-cam. If you are right wing Antifa try to shut down your talks and sometimes become violent with you. Some get pushed out of the platforms completely like it happened on Twitter.
I can't read, "Buy My Book!", without hearing Gissemine from Amy's K Chat segment from GTA Radio.
Gissemine: "Here's a crystal. Isn't it gorgeous...?"
Amy: "Eeeeh yeah, If you're into shiny glass, but I prefer lacey gloves..."

@Jane-qu8fu Isnt it sexist to assume that those are not her views though? As if she doesnt know what she is doing? Every celebrity is praised and followed if they're on the left, because the majority of the culture leaned left until now. But if we see an entertainer on the right doing the same thing it's all of a sudden morally reprehensible and she's a pawn. Im for no double standards.

its funny because she has done studio tours and is very open about the fact she does her show in a studio she designed ?
She has said her studio is fake and she's not in her actual room. She's been open about that for years.
This is also the case with a lot of the big female streamers who stream in a "bedroom" but it's actually a room specifically to live stream. If they have a bed in it, it's only to give the illusion of it being in their bedroom.

I genuinely don't think Brett Cooper gets "marching orders" from Daily Wire's editorial staff. They recruited her because they knew she'd be reliable in marshaling the online right and right-leaning centrist types. DW personalities have fairly independent operations -- that's how Candace Owens got along until the DW finally cut her loose.
