There's no way I'd sell a bomber jacket like that, especially if it was a family heirloom. I'd wear that thing with pride and hand it down to keep it in the family.
How come they all believed that photo was from Normandy? That’s clearly a Corsair and they only flew in the Pacific, not Europe. They themselves said correctly that P 47s fought in Normandy. But it’s still a neat piece of history, I wouldn’t have let go for less than 4K
I noticed the same thing right away. I also noticed that the "USMC" on the name tag explained two things: that this wasn't a jacket from the Army Air Corps unit that was at Normandy, and that the USN on the back of the collar was correct. Marine pilots were issued Navy gear since the Marine Corps was still a part of the Navy Department at that time. Instead of selling it at the pawn shop, I'd have put it up on e-bay or located a collector's group and tried to sell it that way.
@@yarielhernandez8199 Yes, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the plane is CLEARLY a corsair. It looks quite different than any other plane from the period.
How can a jacket worn by a pilot who fought the Japanese over the open ocean be worth less than a jacket worn by a pilot flying through open skies of France? Blows my mind.
Kidnapper: I have your son and I’m holding him for ransom, I want 25k. Rick: I can do 20 and I’m taking a big risk here Kidnapper: But it’s your son?!? Rick: the first rule of negotiating is learn to walk away if the price isn’t right.
I wasn't aware that a USMC unit that's famous for fighting the Japanese--that was actually stateside in June 1944 flying training missions in Corsairs--was also at the same time flying P-47s with the USAAF in Europe. Must have been really hard to be in two places at once.
The Vought F4U Corsair was Pacific theatre only when used by the Americans. Only the Fleet Air Arm (RAF of the British Navy) used the Corsair in the European theatre. Mainly escorting Fairy Barracuda's in their attacks on the Nazi battleship Tirpitz.
Wtf are these editors doing. I remember the sped up intro, and the corrupted video quality for others. This is the B team for certain. Quite a chuckle.
Dude really..... The USMC where never involved in the Overlord operation. That's clearly a Corsair in the picture what means Pacific Theater of Operations.
Correction: the plane in the picture is an F4-U coursair. Also the pratt and whitney r2800 was used in the F6-F hellcat P47 Thunder bolt and the F4-U coursair. It was used in some bombers like the Martin B-26 Marauder
Mama: Hey honey I made roasting lamb with garlic potatoes and steamed veggies. Rick: Hmmm...ok I can give you the TV remote for 2 hours. It's a huge risk I am taking. The lamb and garlic is going to give me heartburn you know that baby.
And no one noticed that the plane in the picture was a marine corsair even with the label on it? The Marines are department of the Navy and why the jacket belongs to a marine. Also VMF-213 is the sister squadron to VMF 214, the black sheep, Pappy Boyingtons group.

Sometimes putting a dollar sign in front of something is a bad thing but in a history point of view I think helps prove how rare and important it is.

The photo is a navy Corsair not a P47

hell hawks flew the P47 thunderbolts and the plane in the picture is an early model F4U Corsair.
@4:35
The look you make when you make someone a low offer and hope they take it lol.
Easy to distinguish, USAAF pilots wore A2 flight jackets without fur collar, the USN aviators wore the G-2 or the M422a
The F4U corsair was actually extremely fast. For a prop plane especially. It had a massive propeller which made the gull wings necessary.
I'd like to see a follow up on what Rick sells some of this stuff for.
Talks about the P-47 and the picture shows him on a F-4U Corsair. Plus, the marines are part of the navy, not the army air corp.
