    You have to ask an employee to get a bar of soap for you because they have them locked in cabinets.

    A camera isn’t going to stop someone from walking out the door with stolen merchandise. I work in retail and the biggest jump in theft happened when the company I work for started a “scan and shop” program that allows shoppers to to scan merchandise and food with their phone, hopefully paying for it when they leave by scanning their phone at a register. Except people walk out the door all the time without doing that and our short-staffed employees are too busy and pulled in fifty directions to notice. A few days ago I noticed a woman pretending to scan and shop without a phone-she was just putting items in bags in her cart which she would then walk out the door with for free. When I informed a manager she basically shrugged. We used to have in-store security that she could have called….in-store security used to catch many shoplifters by pretending to be customers and following them to their cars and then taking a license plate photo…then they had all the footage they needed from in-store cameras and parking lot cameras. But they did away with in-store security years ago…No one wants to pay humans anymore-wherever companies can replace humans with technology they will. It doesn’t work. Our new inventory and stocking system is also now AI generated and it fails miserably in keeping the shelves full. But greedy corporate desk sitters continue to cut corners by cutting employees out of the budget. There are already cameras all over Walmart… body cams are going to capture very little useful footage. What a waste of money.

    • @Noname-v2w5w
      @Noname-v2w5w 5 днів тому

      @ Not really. No one pays attention to what customers are doing at all. You pretty much avoid customers as much as possible-there isn’t time to worry about what they are doing. I just happened to notice this woman because she literally tripped over me she was so busy stealing things. If people do get stopped at self checkout it’s camera-related-it’s not an employee watching them and then questioning their order. If the camera system alerts the attendant that someone’s purse in their cart might be an item they are trying to steal they have to come over and restart the register-it shuts down the transaction automatically. Trust me we are not watching you-the cameras are.

    @JohnOhkumaThiel 5 днів тому +17

    The toughest and least rewarding jobs are those where the public can watch you: Waiters, TSA agents, any place they not only see you but must interact with you to access what they want.
    Personally, I think if you wear a body camera, that should be a bump in pay. You know this isn't just a security thing; people managers are going to review the footage and beat down already underpaid, overworked employees on imperfect job performance.
    I remember when GPS started being installed in phones in Japan. The main purpose was to track field employees to see if they were constantly working or stretching their lunch breaks and general freedom on the go.
    Personally, I think if you can't get results from your employees or people you manage, within the normal hours and such other conditions that you expect of them on paper, then you suck at business. One person doesn't need to work like a CEO or like two or five people. They need too work as one person with a certain skillset and responsibilities, paid accordingly. Threatening people constantly with being fired is not a motivator that should even be legal.
    And now they have to wear body cameras? Or what, they'll be fired?

    Thats to watch staff not customers 100%. This way management can hassle you for you quality of work at a minimum wage job. Like how chevron will pay people more money to watch cameras then the actual staff working just to yell at you for taking too long in the bathroom or not washing a wind shield but when there is an accident or a theft it takes them a weeks to dig through footage.
