Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лип 2024
- Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced many complex themes on race, wealth inequality, capitalism, and empathy. You know...fun superhero stuff. But when you take a step back and look at the big picture, you can see how all of these varying themes tie together into a deeper meaning.
The show is an examination of where our world meets the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How the legacy of Captain America echoes not just in the MCU, but in our own lives.

hmmmm... wandavision is about the reality. falcon and the winter soldier is about power. then loki tackles with time.... lets wait for the shows about space, soul and mind.
DUDE! WHAT! MY MIND IS BLOWN!
Holy shot you are a genius
JUST. WOW!!! MIND. BLOWN!!!
just to add, wanda color theme is red = reality stone color, zemo color theme = power stone color, loki color theme = time stone color.
Yoooooooo
Disney+ should buy this video and add it as an Extra for the series.
I second that!
I third it!
and i fourth it 🗣
That's such a good idea dude
I fifth that!
Thanks for “going there.” This was obviously the intent of the producers, but some reviewers are hesitant to talk about these social issues.
I'm not hesitant to talk about these issues...I just think it's stupid to think that this even is an issue. But you're probably going to be "hesitant" about talking to me about this so called "issue".
You and your staff really out did yourselves in this one. SC knocked it out of the park. Well done!
the depth and coherence of this analysis is top tier, A++
Absolutely!!!!
Totally agree, SC analysis is the best!
Thank you, Doug.
I'll be honest. at first, I wasn't going to watch this video. I thought it was another video to post and monetize. Boy was I wrong! great analysis and awareness. you've gained a follower

as a black man who loves his country but hates what it's done to his people thanks for not shying away from this tough subject matter.
Seems like no one in the US gives a shit about what the native americans went through, you all act like black people were the hardest done by, when the natives were slaughtered in masses and driven off their land for their resources. You know the chinese, japanese and irish were slaves too?
What has America done in the last 50 years towards black americans besides give them advantages no other race has, such as affirmitive action? We are all one people and the sooner people stop living in a past they were never a part of, the better. I'm of mixed race with friends of all colors, but I can't stand these divisive narratives. I literally had a friend last week, who is black, get a job, and he was told during the interview that they were excited to have him come aboard because he can bring "black" business to the company. I was happy he is now employed, but what happened to hiring people based on character, qualifications, and personality? Equality works all ways, and it isn't right to make our white friends feel like they are lesser than simply because the color of the skin they were born with. We don't want to be grouped into a box based on our color, so why do it to others?
@@khaansulu5695 Remember to say "scene" when you're done acting. Nice performance.
Thank you.
@@Zama359 Same to you. Remember to say "scene" when you're done acting. Nice performance.
You hate that two million soldiers fought and two hundred thousand died to get rid of slavery? You hate that minorities are given affirmative action in this country? You hate that it is literally socially unacceptable to make jokes about any race other than white people? Or how the Biden admin is directly targeting the black community with economic benefits?
I love how you don't shy away from the complex social issues this show depicts.
Complex social issues? Really?
@@reh3884 ok karen
This was a great exploration, I’m not a marvel fan at all. But this show does try to bring up some important issues. I’m sure this video will upset some, some that will never be ready to look in a mirror..
@@reh3884 ur mad
@@user-ve9tu5rv6e Brilliant retort... Try taking a logic class and focus on issues rather than personal attacks when discussing an issue. That is how people can move forward as a unified group, as opposed to being mired in personal attacks with no basis :(
This is the best breakdown I’ve seen. It really shows a lot of thought and understanding to really nail what this show what this was about without getting distracted by minor inconsistencies like so many others have. Thank you very much!
Thank you, Ryan and your team. Thank you to all the people who left a comment. I appreciate everyone's empathy for the racial undertones and the political themes in this series. We all have our own barriers and I'm hopeful that we can get past them together.
I made sure to engage with this video. The algorithm needs to know this is an amazing video and VERY has important messages
hi Ryan, 'madani' is a well-known word in indonesian/malay, but it's also originated from arabic. the meaning in arabic isn't just civilian, the root is more towards civil society or community (it's actually the root for Medina, which is just literally 'city')
@Shy Cracker actually very true! But i can see why the mistake: when I google it myself the first results are indonesian lol
Battlestar would have been a better choice to take the serum! He was basically the same level of badass warfighter as Walker, but he had a conscience. Battlestar was basically Walkers conscience... many times in the show, he was the voice of reason to Walker and stopped him from doing things that were morally questionable and giving in to his darker side. When battlestar was killed, that was like John Walker losing his conscience and morality. That was the point where Walker fully devolved into a killer and started acting out.
When I first saw this, I thought “ANOTHER Falcon & Winter Soldier analysis video from Ryan? What more could he possibly say?” Now I’m in awe of your dead on analysis of the underlying meaning of the show. I watched with my wife and kids and I’m going to have them all sit down together and watch this so we can discuss it. Amazing work!!! Thank you!
To be fair, Walker did question whether to take the serum through his conversation with Lemar. I didnt see white supremacist in him, I saw a soldier mindset I.e. complete the mission. He was showing cracks due to trauma he experienced in war but ultimately, despite the serum that amplified his instability, he done the right thing when given the choice to save lives or destroy Karli. Just my opinion. Enjoyed the video
I agree, somewhat.
It bothers me that John Walker is labeled a Supremacist, and I don’t see the parallels: To me, John Walker is a deeply flawed, deeply insecure man with a lot to prove. This weight on his shoulders is what causes him to do the horrible deeds he does here. He is a soldier, and he was given the title of Captain America, and thus, he has been given authority, but instead of recognizing and respecting that power, with humility and empathy, he demands respect and attempts to brute force the world to get his way. The serum only amplified those insecurities, and drove him over the edge.
I can’t speak to the effects war has had on him, but I do know inferiority and a bruised ego when I see it, and John Walker is a great example of a good man struggling with insecurity, self-doubt and ego, and trying to compensate with anger and aggression.
Supremacist in this case doesn't mean evil racist. If you watch his interactions, he tries to interrogate a man but doesn't bother to make sure there is no language barrier, then goes all in when he doesn't immediately get an answer. Secondly, the way he momentarily disregards the Dora Milaje, even after he gets his butt kicked. He says "they're not even super soldiers" he automatically assumed that he should have beat them. He doesn't say wow those soldiers are really well trained.
The supremacy is the automatic assumption that HE is in the right because of who he is, and the country he represents.
It's not white supremacy. It's white male American entitlement which is a complete disregard or lack of attempt to understand anything and anyone that doesn't agree or fit within his ideals and preconceived notions at an international level. He takes his limited world view, and applies ot to every other person he encounters while completely disregarding others (or not even considering) any other ways of thinking or being. He feels that because America chose him and he feels that America is the greatest and righteous country, he is superior (that is supremacy) . He has many conscious and unconscious biases. It's not a supremacy based on race but on superiority. And this is backed by those who don't hold him accountable (no jail time for murdering an unarmed man in public but stripped of his job and title) what did his "punishment" do? It allowed him to now do the same things without the government red tape. Now he can be contracted out as US Agent, by the same people in power and still not be held accountable. And he still blames everyone but himself for killing he did.
@@afroditevapes435 Unlike the Dora Milaje he actually has official government (and not just by the U.S) mandate to apprehend Zemo, but some random bald black ladies pop out of nowhere and demand one of the (if not the most wanted) person on Earth, and somehow they're able to defeat the best U.S soldier, the Winter Soldier, and an Avenger all at the same time. He says "they're not even super soldiers" not because of arrogance but because of failure, he's been getting his ass kicked by everyone and pushed away by both Falcon and Bucky for no fucking reason when he wants to work with them and now he can't even defeat non super soldiers, this gets him to a point where he doesn't believe he's worthy which from his discussion with Lamar, gets him to use the serum to finally be on equal grounds to fight the non trained but serumed peaceful protestors.
@Miles Doyle longest comment I've ever seen on youtube
Zemo established that the super soldier serum is directly linked with supremacy. Also, there is no white man like Steve Rogers
So well layed out & expressed , so “others” don’t get there feelings hurt when the truth is uncomfortable
How you went about discussing topics in this video makes me happy to be a long time viewer of a channel that is willing to talk about these topics in a sane, chill, educational way. Kudos to everyone involved with it!
Couldn’t agree more.
Very pleased to have seen this video pop up. All of these things NEEDED to be said.
Ditto.
I've lived in Tulsa for 21 years and for most of it I knew little to nothing about the Tulsa race massacre. It wasn't until a few years ago that more awareness and information started spreading about this tragic event.
Even Wikipedia until a couple of years ago had it logged as a riot with the death toll at 30.
That about 100 years tf why do you even talk about it
@@s66s46 because it's important to revist history so we don't repeat it. It's important to bring to light injustices that were being swept under the rug.
I need someone to make a GIF of that last shot of Ryan nodding, Doug sitting on his lap, thoughtful and approving.
I was about to say the same 🤣
“fixing economic disparity can stop terrorism before it starts.” Exactly. Great point, & a great show. Also important “we can’t heal these wounds without acknowledging them.” Well done.
"Don't make it about politics!"
Marvel has been political for a long time - the X-men were inspired by the Civil rights movement, Captain America was a form of propaganda and Stan Lee spoke up against racism and discrimination in the comics too.
Great analysis in this video, Ryan.
Stan Lee also said that the comics should be fun first. Funny how people always leave that part out. That said, I absolutely love this show. The story in the comics felt lame and slapped together, and comic Falcon had no business being Cap. But the MCU really did a great job of making something great out of that slop.
it's funny cos in the xmen the mutants represent the black community's struggle but since the blacks are represented by mostly whites, they are fine with that. Now that blacks are represented by black, they are no longer comfortable with that
@@artcorbeauThat has to be the single dumbest thing I've read in months.
@@lorenwilson5444 and like you say, this series was great and very fun.
@@lorenwilson5444 I'll try to make it simple for you. Some people (like you, probably), bitch about the politicisation of stories like this one, but they didnt bitch about stories like xmen, which is also an allegory of real life struggle of black people. So whats the difference between this & the xmen ? the xmen replaced black people with mutants, a fictional minority. This show didnt replace the black people with a fictional minority. Now they suddenly have problem with that.
Wow this video was pretty powerful

Great work Ryan and your team. You took the subject head on and I appreciate it. I can’t wait to show this episode to my kids after they finish the finale.

This show was bad because of how politically correct it was...talk to me about real issues please! Like, democrats cheating in elections, and vaccines full of spike protein, and where the heck this economy is going. Get woke or go broke!
This analysis is brilliant in every way. You may lose some supporters because of this post, but it speaks to your honesty and courage. Sadly, truth sounds like hate to those who hate truth.
So the point was: “No one man should have all that power”

Hey Ryan been a long time viewer but this is my first comment. I just needed to show my appreciation for you detailed and concise explantion of the show. The content of all your summaries of episodes are a true companion to the show and this one in particular just enccapsulates everything in brillaint form. Well done man and keep on keeping on.
Thank you for looking deeper into this show! It deserves the same deep analysis as many other works in this genre- but, sadly, isn't getting it. I'm afraid that there is a lack of close examination because it hits home a little too much. But, that's what makes this show and the original comic so important. It transcends its medium.
Man subscription from me...One of the best open and honest analysis 👏 out there...No sugar coating here...Great job!!!

Thank you Ryan from the bottom of my heart, this video means the world to people like me. Much love brotha🙏🏾
You have out done your self sir. This is the most beautiful recap of any show ever. Thank you for recognizing the generational trauma imbedded in this show. We need to see race and economics to become people of this world. Many claps!
Screen crush crew y’all really went above and beyond with this one. Happily subscribed
Kudos to you Ryan for commenting on the (many) 800-pound gorillas in the room (racism, poor treatment of veterans, nationalism, etc). Overall it was an encouraging story to me, even if the whole missing vaccine plot muddied the waters. Sam really does deserve the shield and the uniform.
The uniform he ends up wearing is goofy. He looks like he's going skiing
Nobody deserves it except Steve. The racism nonsense was shoehorned in for the sake of a trend. It has nothing to do with the story or character.
These last two videos about Falcon and the Winter Soldier, I have to give you kudos for not shying away from the topics presented in this TV show nailing the explanation of the context without fear of backlash... and that is commendable!
Respect man! Not only do always bring the heat with the videos, but your discussion around them is on point. You took a dive on this one, and it was flawless.
Also, Sebastian acted his tail off! Your clips got the best of the best! Overall, great work!
Excellent!! Thank you for posting this very clear message! It's one that isn't pointed out enough, IMO. I, too, learned of the Tulsa Massacre in the Watchmen, and loved the return reference in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
MCU really know how to mix a comic character and story with real world problems and issues and i love it so much
Such a great breakdown, it's so worrying that people will still dislike a video like this. Great work.
Well done you were first. How did you manage that? Much respect.

This is the best breakdown you have done. You have surfaced how entertainment can ask tough questions about our culture so that it can elevate us all to be and do better. Thank you! And thanks for adding the pup.

You guys have done a great job on your breakdowns of all these shows...
Kudos to Screencrush and Ryan (the doggie as well)!!!
great breakdown and exploration of themes. i could watch this all day.
I feel so bad for the rift created between these guys like bucky and cap missed all of the struggles and civil rights movements that highlighted the race issues and struggles so it was literally impossible for them to consider Sam's race when selecting him...like you know they would have considered it but they didn't know. And they were too good of men to see a problem with it because they didn't see his color. They saw his worthiness.

Wow, well done. Great work, once again!
I loved every moment of this show.
I think that Sam is the one character that can learn from both Steve Rodgers and Isaiah Bradley to see that it isn’t the color of your skin but the content of your character
He's not the one who needed to learn that message. That is the message he is trying to teach. He wants to make sure the rest of the world will see him by the content of his character. That's why he says "black falcon? So are you black kid?" Meaning he's asking why is it black first? Why isn't Hawkeye called white Hawkeye? Why if the character is black do we usually add in "black" before their name? Why is it race first if you are non-white hero? The beautiful thing is he teaches it well.
Great video! I really enjoy these deeper meaning videos.
