Will the 48” not work on a kayak? Specifically a Titan 12? I see all the 36” ones are still sold out, so if the 48” won’t work I’ll have to get one cut down too.
I dont understand...... someone please educate my ignorant ass. Motor guide xi3 comes with a locking clamp that goes on that shaft. This allows you to set your depth to anything,,,up to 48" So just set the clam to 36 inches.... when it drops down in place it only goes to whatever depth you set that clamp at. Obviously, I am missing something obvious.... someone please explain.
Great point. But the only problem is you will have the motor setting up way to high in front of you. Giving a good chance at smacking your rod on the motor when casting. And can be difficult if fighting a fish having to try and get your line around the motor.
@@OneObjective ok thanks,... I hadnt considered the "casting obstruction" problem. I have a BW 132 and will be putting a 48" on it when your mount arrives next week. I will let you know if it is a casting problem. Big Water sits up pretty high, I thought the extra 12 inch of potential depth might be good on choppy days
OUTSTANDING VIDEO!! Thanks for showing me how to do a job on my MinnKota that needs doing the very same thing down to a 36" !! You guys are AWESOME!!
Great video. I have the exact motor on a 54” shaft. I will be cutting it down and ordering a yak mount from y’all. Thanks
I'm seeing more and more Old Towns on the water. I'm just saying ; )
what did you use for the solder fittings to splice the wire, and does it create heat with the load?
Any idea how short these can go? Hoping to get one for an Old Town PDL 120 where it won’t interfere with the drive being up.
Cutting it down void the warranty?? Nice job by the way .
Yes it would. That was Motorguide's reason for releasing the 36" version. Covid and parts delays has just made it hard to get them though.

The 48 will work. The issue is how high it will stick up in the air
@@OneObjective are y’all cutting them down for people or was this one just for video purposes?
@@jpoutdoors23 we have been cutting them down for customers
@@OneObjective have u dealt with the Motorguide warranty guys with a shortened shaft. I called and they seemed to be reasonable
What's the shortest a customer has asked you to cut it?

The head looks off. You should've put the head on straight then marked the bolt holes.
Could just be the video. But it’s straight
@@OneObjective sorry about that I just wanted to make sure😂
My kayak has no space to bow-mount the trolling motor, but ample space at the stern. Can the head of the Xi3 be rotated like a transom mount motor?
they make a stern mount.... and it works great for rivers
