A lot of people go on about how expensive some brands of sketchbooks are, but personally I don’t drink, smoke or gamble so I too like the good ones too😜. It can be our gift to our selves. But if anyone in Australia is looking for a cheapie Derivan makes one that is not bad for about $10. Thanks for a lovely video😊
Thanks for your feedback! Yes, I totally agree - sketchbooks are my ‘vice’ so I do tend to splash out when I can. I do plan on trying out some others so that I can have more variety to recommend ✨
I use Royal Talens Creations sketch books and they are really good quality and very economical. You can use watercolour in them as long as it isn't washes and wet on wet. They aren't meant for watercolour but I was surprised at their ability to hold up to ,ost of the stuff I throw at them. As a lot of people can't afford moleskin anymore thought it was worth mentioning. Loved your video.
Hi Linda, Thanks for letting me know about the Royal Talens sketchbook - I’ve heard quite a bit of hype around this! I think I’m going to have to try it out 🙌 Yeah, moleskin is definitely a luxury brand - although because it’s the main one I use I wasn’t able to recommend anything else. I think I may need to do some research - oh what a shame if I have to purchase more sketchbooks to try out 😉 Thanks for your feedback, I really apprappreciate it ✨
I always buy the cheaper sketchbooks I can find, and may try to get better quality paper for special illustrations or some media that uses water. I don't feel like she is encouraging people to get expensive things, she just shows what she uses
Thanks for sharing! I've recently changed my art practise and have several sketchbooks on the go. Yes it costs more money for better quality paper, but its been 100% worthwhile. It gives me lots of variety so i don't get bogged down or stuck with just the one subject matter. And it's definitely improved my skills a lot withiut fretting about wasting my expensive watercolour paper. Result! 😊
Hi Wendy, I totally agree with the higher quality materials giving a higher quality finish - it really does make a difference. The way I look at it is I compare the costs to what I would spend on a book for example, which I would read within a week - whereas a sketchbook can last aaaages and improves my practice and skills. So, to me, it’s with the money spent 🤍
I saw Klimt's sketches at Neue Galerie in New York in 2017. Klimt drew the composition of The Kiss several times, at least, and every single iteration was so beautiful.
Ah yes, I too adore Klimt’s work. I also love seeing the pre-lim sketches more than the finished piece sometimes. It’s like taking a glimpse into the souls and mind of the artist 🕺🕺
Great video however I couldn’t have the pleasure of enjoying your sketch books flipping through. Maybe you can make a video of sketch books tour ? Where you flip the pages slower we can enjoy seeing your work with a gentle song or something 😊. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks so much for the feedback! I’ll definitely look at creating a sketchbook tour video - I also love watching those to have a nosy and to feel inspired. Wishing you a wonderful week 🤍
I really love the idea of starting a sketchbook with a swatch colour page that is brilliant and yes, I think that would take the fear of ruining the first page away. Thanks for sharing such a great video.❤❤❤❤❤ would love to see a video series, of like a 15/30 day art challenge that we could follow along with you 😊
I've been using sketcbooks for awhile now. I just finished a 50pg sketchbook, the whole book being elephants drawn with brushpens and white gel pens on toned tan paper. It's one of my favorite completed sketchbooks now. Having a specific theme I think is the best way to go with sketchbooks. Although, most of mine are separated by materials, not specific animals. I'm a huge fan of Canson's mixed media rough sketchbook. It has 50pages about $15 last time I checked. Ballpoint and brushpens look great on their paper. It falls short for any wet media for me though, you'll definitely need a bleed page.
Hi Irene, Thanks so much for your feedback - it means a lot. I’m so glad that I could provide some sort of inspiration to help you along with your practice ✨
Oh I’m so glad! Thanks for letting me know - I really want to be able to provide some support and insight to whoever is happy to watch and listen. I really value your feedback and kind words ✨🙌
New subscriber. Thank you for sharing your sketchbook and the supplies that you use. Helps to know what kind of other supplies are out there to try. Sorry others feel you are pushing them on others. You gave some great tips.
Hi Jamie, Thanks for reaching out and for subscribing! I really appreciate it. I also love knowing what else is out there, so I’m glad that my suggestions are helpful 🙌
That’s totally fair enough! I have several different ones on the go with different types of paper and different value - because I can also be a bit scared of wasting the expensive paper. But different papers result in different results 🕺🤍
Hi Kat, Thanks so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I will definitely look at giving some cheaper sketchbooks a go so that I can offer cheaper recommendations ✨✨
I'm sure there are people who are afraid of messing up an expensive sketchbook. But they shouldn't be! I enjoy high quality. I believe sketchbooks with for exampke Arches paper are more fun because good paper makes it easier to create nice pictures. What I'm afraid of is more that I mess up a sketchbook in which I already have some paintings I'm happy about. But both is nonsense! One should never be afraid of making art!
@@anjapinkau3737 It's a double edged sword. If you are starting out it's perhaps a good idea to not go high end straight away just in case you don't like it, but cheap materials might hold you back from creating what you love.

I purchased relatively inexpensive water colour pads and make my own books. A4 paper folded gives a nice size to work on
That's a great idea! 💡🕺

Thanks so much for the info regarding the Canson sketchbook! And yay for an Elephant themed sketchbook… I’d love to see it!
Amazing, I especially love the 3 faces at around 4:15, the colours sparked joy! Your art is so unique and warm, I’m excited to see more
Thank you so much 😀

I feel more comfortable with cheap sketchbooks 'cause I'm not "afraid" to ruin expensive paper and I feel totally free to make creative experiments 😅
