This is exactly it. There's only been a few times ever there's been a fake out. And it requires the involvement of the control room to pull off. In this one it was obviously pre-arranged. There's another example involving Lee where he covertly whispered into his microphone to get them to do it.
Haha that makes sense.. the writers knew how much this story would get to Rob and David so they doubled down and went with the fake out answer as well. I was a little confused thinking Lee must know the card was coming before they filmed, but that would make sense that there could be a small note at the bottom saying to pretend it was true haha.
In answer to your question WILTY is a very popular programme in the UK. It has just started it's sixteenth series. Lee Mack also co writes and stars in a sitcom "Not Going Out" which has bee n running for twelve series since 2006. Lee may not have been invited to the Royal Wedding but he did host The Royal Variety Performance in December. So he does now have bragging rights in Royal matters.
Lee Mack hosted this year's Royal Variety which has a royal patronage and he also hosted the Platinum Party in front of Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year. He is the most 'royally' connected among the three. He also hosted the 1% Club, a new intellectual show. Love Lee Mack!!!
Thanks for the insights Kenneth and Christine! Much appreciated.. I've only just heard of "Not Going Out" this week.. great to hear how successful it has been (and that Tim Vine was in it as well). Is it a good show worth checking out? and should i see the variety show as well? Also Christine, is the 1% Club worth watching? Thanks again!
The reaction on both your faces when you thought it was true was brilliant! As was David Mitchell because he had a look that said "I was snubbed over a guy who would rather have a pot noodle than going to a royal wedding" 😂
Haha thanks Errol! That was a great clip! Good news.. we just filmed the Trampoline story yesterday so that's coming soon :) We've changed Blake's mind on Lee haha.
@@filmslate Yay we've successfully turned Blake around with absolutely "no pressure" at all hahaha. I thought I saw a few beads of sweat running down his face in this video haha but looking forward to seeing him enjoy some Lee Mack humour in the trampoline video. Thanks for checking out the recommendation!
They have just one button but they spoke about this episode later on. And on Lee Mack’s card the producers wrote that he would reveal the story as true and they would have true come up to just play with Rob and David🤣
yeah the buttons are just props that do nothing; there's a couple of outtakes where theyve forgotten to press the button and the answer shows up anyway
Random extra observation, but that Lee's wife supposedly couldn't make it is a strange reason to think it's less likely. It made it seem much *more* likely (although I ultimately didn't believe it IIRC). There's any number of reasons she might not have been able to attend, such as being a doctor or nurse on duty, being in hospital herself as a patient, being overseas for work reasons she can't realistically postpone and it therefore being utterly impractical to get back.... I could go on. That detail made it more, not less, plausible. People can't always just "rearrange" things - not even for royal weddings.
My uncle and aunt were genuinely invited to William and Kate's wedding. I've got a copy of the invite so a bit of inside info if you're interested. The invite says on it 'The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by The Queen to invite Mr & Mrs .....'. So it has both their names on (not 'plus 1'). And only one time on the invite. They did have to get there something like 1.5 hours early to go through security and be in place well in advance. I guess H&M's may have been a bit different - no idea.
Very interesting. Not sure if there was different protocol because that wedding was at Westminster abbey whereas H&M’s was at Windsor. I would’ve assumed that either there would be a time plus an instruction to arrive X hours early or the time would be the arrival time and the wedding would begin at some point after that. Given it’s a royal wedding, it’s not like they’d need to tell guests an exact start time of the ceremony…so if there was only one time and no instruction, like Lee, I would go with you arrive at that time and there will be a fair bit of security and general rigmarole before the actual event kicks off.
Always love the insights, thanks Peter and Ari! I figured security and such would be quite the lengthy procedure. Haha yes I did not think a royal wedding invite would have "plus 1" on the card :D

Thanks Dave! Glad to hear it's as popular as it deserves to be! Australia tried their own WILTY last year and it was painfully bad.. surely it has been cancelled!
Oh cool, thanks for the insights Shmupper! I had a feeling they were the big shows, they are the main ones that have made their way over to Australia. Good to know we arent't missing out on any gem shows that you guys are keeping just for yourselves haha
WILTY running since 2007, and back then it would have got 8m+ viewing figures, right now it gets about 3m+. Now the drop is due to people's change in watching habits. And across all platforms it might do alot better. You should watch the US version of WILTY, do a compare and contrast. To my knowledge only one panel show has ever made the crossover from the UK to USA and been successful and still runs to this day, and that's "Whose Line Is It Anyway"... That's mainly down to the US network taking back the North American talent back to the US with the show
Are these guys on opposite sides of Australia or something. Their laughter is so infection, it’s a shame they are broadcasting separately from a caravan and garden centre, and not sat together to bounce off each other reaction. Also, Lee Mack, top notch northern comedian.
Haha we are Mark! Many thousands of KMs away from each other, so we've tried to make it work as much as we can given the distance. Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it! We've certainly chatted about ideally filming in the same location, and if the channel grows and people keep enjoying the clips, then moving closer together to film in the same location is certainly on the cards!
Love Lee,, also very much love that he gave us the "true" reactions just for the comedy. Sidenote, would never go to royal wedding even if i was paied to do so xd
Neither would i. I remember that day. I went for a really long walk with my family to get away from it for the day then drove back in time for the important event of the day: the FA Cup final

I personally am not a fan of Lee Mack. I liked him initially but more often than not it seems like he is just waiting to cut in on somebody else’s story to make his little quip rather than actually listening to what other people are saying. That being said, there is a clip called “Lee Mack Clears Things Up” that is hilarious.
Good call DS! As much as Lee make is hilarious and so quick-witted, he for sure will take away from another comedian's moment by getting his line in. His gift and his curse haha.
