WeGovy, Ozempic or Mounjaro? How a new wave of weight loss drugs could transform the diet industry

- Wegovy is one of several new "miracle" drugs that promise to revolutionize the weight-loss industry.
Praised by celebrities and social media influencers, Wegovy was approved for use in the U.S., as well as in the U.K.'s free healthcare system, where it will be available to patients in spring 2023.
"This drug really is now changing the paradigm of obesity treatment. You're getting 15 to 17 approaching 20% weight loss with a weekly injection," Peter Verdult, a pharmaceuticals analyst at Citi, told CNBC.
A report by the World Health Organization in 2022 showed that obesity has nearly tripled since 1975 and continues to rise. More than 1 billion people are clinically obese globally, of whom 650 million are adults, 340 million are adolescents and 39 million are children.
But the long-term consequences of these drugs remain unknown. They're expensive, there are concerns about them getting into the hands of people who don't need them - and individuals who want to keep the weight off may have to stay on them for life.
Watch the video above to find out more.

If it's going to help save medical bills, food, life, mental health, etc. I am all for it.
That's exactly it - and for insurance to NOT cover it really makes no sense. Just a matter of when they'll realize this and the dominoes will fall. Look for this as a pill or maybe a patch or something soon too...which will increase demand even more.
It's incredibly expensive. Around $1000 a month.
@@laurabower6395 Once insurance covers it with no issue, it'll be like any other medication. Soon.
All medications have side effects. Healthiest solution, eat less calories than you burn.

Calling a regular-sized burger a "little slider" shows how out of touch we are with portion sizes. Holy moly lol
The slider is a regular sized burger
It's great but it is not addressing the cause: our current food environment.
We need follow up on the lady being interviewed 5 months from now and 2 years from now…
This drug was invented 20 years ago. There's plenty of cohort studies on it's efficacy
And thats how the pharma industry is fixing a problem created by the food industry. No crisis should go to waste. Meanwhile the random person has to have to work harder and longer to maintain the profits of both industries.
Precisely!
That's not a slider. It's a full-size burger. Let's start there. 😅
Exactly!!! Lmao
STARTING with a large green salad with beans helps you feel full before eating cooked food
This is a fabulous kick starter for rehabilitating eating and exercise. Knowledge is power and finally we are getting there
I'm currently using this 10 weeks so far, works for me and I have no side effects its different for everybody and its free under my drug benefit s in Canada
Canada is terrible for flexing their stupid health care
Oh just rub it in 🙄😂😜 (sincerely, Americans)
*cries in American*
@@StephanieIsmail LOL... move to Canada where if you're unhappy with your life the Government will KILL YOU... think about what you wish for...
It’s not free. Your free requires the enslavement of someone else to pay for it.
I was given a free 1 month starter pack from the DR to see if I could handle it. I saw the same immediate effect as the woman. I at my first meal and I was actually full for the first time that I could remember. I actually ate less and was still full. I never had put 1 and 1 together that I was never full. I would just eat. These meds can change so many peoples lives.
I wish I could get a free sample!
Carnivore diet and cutting out sugar does the same thing. But "everyone is different " and youre not looking for a quick fix, oh no.
I was on carnivore for a couple years. I read about GLP1s and the 1000 price tag and laughed about it. Then my dad unexpectedly died and that threw a wrench in my whole life. I gained 90 pounds from the depression and taking over his business. I tried everyday to get back on carnivore but honestly built an aversion to the food because it was what I was eating while he was in the hospital. Each time I would eat my go to meats sense memory would send me back to those miserable days and I would get sick from eating it. After the rapid gain my doctor put me on Mounjaro. It costs me 450. I’ve lost the 90 pounds and honestly I’d pay for it forever. I never have to think about food. I only eat whole natural foods, but never having to think about it is the best part. Even after being on carnivore for a while when all the carb cravings are gone, I still had to plan around my restricted diet. For the first time in my life I don’t have to think about it at all. It’s easy to stick to a healthy eating plan when you never want to eat garbage to begin with.
We'll see the side effects in 5 years then everyone will want to cry about
I’ve lost 155 lbs...only 50lbs to go🥳 I swam 2-3 hrs a day 4x a week..ate less..more protein, coffee, I do IF too and AC1now 4.5 doctors so happy. My kids havent seen me so skinny..because when I was...it was 12 yrs ago. Mourjurno was best for me less side effects...been on trulicity, wegovy too many side effects on MJ for 4 months now
Type 2 diabetes, I have currently lost about 8 pounds in a month with no exercise. And my blood sugar numbers are way better Mounjaro
Maybe eat healthy and exercise instead of being a slave to big pharma 🤔
These drugs cost about $1000/month and you only loose about 15 pounds.
But but but this pill enables them to keep eating junk and skip the gym!
“Lose” ffs
@tyd8077 That's not true. Do your research and see those foods are NOT compatible and will give you bad side effects. Stfu😂

Teach people to eat right is the long term solution
And proper portions
Sound’s simple doesn’t it. It’s more than that

Your comment: “teach people to eat right is the long term solution,” shows your ignorance and arrogance regarding this issue.
@@sassyt1545not ignorant at all. I once weighed 245 pounds. My health was terrible and I was a type 2 diabetic. Start low carb/ fasting and I stopped eating junk and carbs. I lost 125 lbs and I’ve kept it off for 4 years now. I’m healthier then I’ve ever been. It can be done!
When you go off it, it will all come back. Drugs are never the answer.
I’ve heard this also, it’s a forever drug
Just like diabetes, drugs, high blood pressure, statins, when you go off of them, your symptoms return.
You need to form healthy eating habits. You can’t just take a drug and expect it to do all the work. Exercise and healthy eating habits will all help while taking these GLP1
@@tamiz8895 no it’s not a forever drug. Doctors are telling everyone that I know that’s on it that the can take it for only 2 years

I will be here waiting for the class action.
Me too. With my popcorn. These folks never learn.
I’m so over journalist thinking that all obese people eat that crap. I haven’t had soda, chips crap like that in 10 years and any fast food ever or if I HAVe to go it’s a salad. I drink a gallon of water a day and my body has an autoimmune issue and while I’m not diabetic (or even close) but my body will NOT process food right! So maybe do those stories!!
If so these drugs won't help you anyway.
Dang usa it cost in dollars what we pay in Rand for it here in South Africa... so almost 16x more!
Ozempic makes a person feel like they are about to throw up most of the time.
Depends on a lot of factors. If adjusting portion sizes and getting rid of fatty foods from your diet isn't working, then it might not be for you.
In my humble opinion, it's better to avoid them all - and of course stay as far away from the pharmaceutical industrial complex as possible.
You are probably correct about this assumption!!!
Is it better for me to remain obese because all other attempts at dieting have failed?
You are sooo correct, watch the space.
Yeah a diabetic shouldn’t buy insulin or a cancer patient should avoid chemo. We don’t want science to improve our health.
Processed food is the problem. Solution is not new drugs but better food. Fix the food and problem will be fixed.
Make better food cheaper and the problem will be fixed
I eat very little processed food. I cook every night from scratch. I used to be hungry within two hours of eating. I can now eat three modest meals a day and not snack at all. This is a huge change for me, so at the moment, this drug is very much the solution!
im getting my mounjaro tomorrow !!!!!!!
I notice that they haven't mentioned Victoza/Saxenda .... because the patent on this drug has run out and a generic is on its way in 2024.
It has been an incredibly positive and beneficial experience for my well-being. I am truly grateful for the positive impact it has had on my health.
I wonder if since this works with brain satisfaction this class could be adapted to not work on the stomach, isolate the brain factor & be used as an antidepressant or for helping drug abuse.
What a noble thought, you are right but the use case you suggested will probably never happen.
Because the scapegoat will be lost.
I absolutely agree. Saw a video with a brain expert on UA-cam and she talked about how it seems to reduce all the "addictive" behaviors...so I think you might very well be on to something.
These absolutely reduce cravings for alcohol.
It's already been proven to help alcoholics stop drinking. Even people who just drink for fun say they can't stand the taste of alcohol on this drug. And some people in AA say this drug makes them want to throw up when they think about alcohol.

For anyone who says, "Just eat healthy" or "Just eat less" -- I need you to do this test... Don't eat for three days. Nothing. Just water. That's it. Absolutely nothing. --- Can you do it and function as normal? Could you not eat for three days and still work and exercise and think about other things? --- Now, decrease that three days down to three hours and that's what it's like for someone whose brain and stomach isn't properly regulated. -- The same feeling that you feel at your hungriest is what some people feel every few hours. -- For most obese people, it's not a willpower problem, it's a hormone problem. This drug regulates that hormone.
So does low carb eating and time restricted eating/fasting. You don't need a drug to achieve this.
@@vickip9871 as a formerly obese person. ( I lost over 100lbs in one year). It's taken me many many years of self loathing and hatred to finally hate myself enough to overcome the pain of exercise and hunger from dieting.

How about a little self control?
Here's what I don't. Don't these drugs work by not making you hungry so you don't eat much? Can't you just not take the drug and not eat much and achieve the same result?
Ultimately yes, but easier said than done
Some people, especially those with food addiction, BED, or IR don't always have the "will power" to do that. These meds help turn off that constant craving and food noise.
Well, Kelly, have you ever experienced strong hunger pangs? Maybe after several hours of not eating, or you wait much longer to eat breakfast and you're just downright starving. It may be few and far between for you, but that's what it feels like all the time for many people, even right after eating a plate full of food. Just because you think it would be easy to just "not eat much" doesn't mean it's that way for everyone!
@@jeffs6090 You don't know what you're talking about. What causes hunger is two-fold, dropping blood sugar and an emptying stomach. Hunger comes because of food we've just eaten. The reason people are ALWAYS hungry is because THEY ARE ALWAYS EATING. Because they eat a bunch of sugar which spikes blood sugar, then causes a huge drop in blood sugar - causing hunger pangs.
The irony is fasting DECREASES HUNGER. Not the opposite. Try it some time. Don't eat for 24 hours. You'll find you're not hungry. Why? Because your blood sugar is constant and your stomach is not shrinking.
Everyone has the same biology. Don't let a pharma company try and tell you you're different.

Exactly, using effective medication to have more control over what people put in their bodies.
@@brettknoss486 using medication to cover pathetic lack of willpower and self respect
Here’s a revolutionary idea, eat less and move more.
Only in America pharma would push drugs on people instead of trivially easy natural solutions such as doing healthy whole foods on Keto or low-carb, OMAD style. After 3 to 4 days, once keto adapted, same effects like the drugs (i.e. no more hunger). This is the right and way rather than drugs.
So in most cases this is simply a replacement for willpower and the willingness to feel some discomfort? Yuck. At least it may reduce the burden that obesity puts on the healthcare system.
Really? That's all? -- So you're a doctor?
