I disagree with your comment, but thank God for freedom of speech, first amendment. I've seen in fast food restaurants people in their 30's and 40's and their 50's working there, some that I've spoken to even have two jobs just trying to get by. Everything keeps on going up except the wages, do your research and you'll find out that I'm right.
If your only qualification is restaurant work, then demanding an increase from an employer because of that is ludicrous. Why should an employer pay a person more than their job is worth because the employee failed to prepare for life. I have granddaughters in college working part-time in restaurants who see that first hand: people in their 40's and 50's who have no training, no work experience other than restaurant work. One granddaughter said it is great motivation to do well in college. One of my sons managed a restaurant and constantly complained about drug problems and absentee issues. He went back to school and is now a software engineer. He believes that many lack the drive to do anything more.

silly socialists..... its so funny to hear you think out loud you liberal fucks...... obvious the social studies they spread in colleges today is liberally biased to the common worker and not to the people who actually OWN the businesses that hire the employees and pay the wages for STARTING LEVEL EMPLOYEES....so fucking adults take high school jobs.....and expect adult wages......and most are probably illegal aliens..... working at in n out, flippin burgers
Elizabeth Kelley So what you are trying to say is, "everybody that feels like I do, is sick too". Is that what you're trying to say? Let me know. I look forward to hearing from you 😎
Inquire98 So are you saying I said you are sick and everyone who feels like you is sick too? I don't get your point because your writing and thinking is equally convoluted. I did say your ideas are sick because you try to justify your lack of empathy with law.We are not governed by law alone but also by common decency and the Golden rule. This may not mean much to you or the business owners who like to have scores of minimum wage employees to operate their businesses, paying them a trifle salary while also deducting a percentage of their tips to pay other employees. It has grown increasingly difficult to regulate a system which is unregulated by nature. No one knows how much in tips they will earn or how much in tips they will pay out.Certainly if tipping is done away with by law, many aspects of food service will change and minimum wage will not encourage better,or more personal service. Food service cannot be compared to other jobs which receive a decent paycheck because it is personal and transitory, fluctuating and unstable. Waitstaff are at the mercy of their guests, who sit at their allotted tables and take time and space for what the waiter hopes and prays will be equitable recompense. To deny them a gratuity is to effect, laugh in their faces. If this makes you feel righteous,I refer you to the Golden Rule,Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You.
This 15 dollars an hour is killing the restaurant and fast food businesses and keeping customers away and it's back firing on employees as they lose their job's. Democrats past this bill without thinking of the consequences.
True capitalism..... freedom to not patronize scrooge-like restaurants. No employees, no customers sounds fair. True, Mr. Scrooge, you don't owe anybody anything, but they don't owe you either. Children who don't share their toys a little bit should have to play alone.
@Pyar Squared The main reason for the shortage of skilled labor is few people now days want to even try to learn a skill. And the people coming into the US unskilled are most often not given a chance to learn a skill even if they want to. The whole thing is messed up.
@Pyar Squared News Flash. They underpay skilled workers, too! My profession requires a license, certification and a degree is preferred and they STILL don't want to pay a decent wage or benefits. Been looking for a year and it's been tough..............
I purchased an existing family resturant that had been in business at the same location for 15 years. And not only kept the 10 employee's, five of which were full time consisting of 40 and sometimes more, and five were part time which worked 20 to 30 hours per week. Having worked in the industry for 10 years prior to my purchase, gave them all an 8 percent raise to off set the mandatory 8 percent the IRS automatically adds to service industry gross wages. EVERY ONE WAS HAPPY. Like any and all business's, my resturant had a fixed square footage available for usage. And a certain percentage of it was taken up by two restrooms, one for males, one for females. However, five years into my endevor, the law changed and I was required to install another restroom for those that couldn't based on their feelings, deceide if they were male or female. Thus I was forced to either give up valuable square footage for dining purpose by converting the two into one restrooms into what was referred to as a unisex, with a locking door. Thus anyone regardless of their feeling or actual gender could use it. OR, eliminating them entirely. I chose the later, which gave me additional square footage to add three more dining table and in the process hire an additonal employee, and making one of the part time, full time. EVERY ONE WAS HAPPY. Jumping ahead 5 additonal years, Obama's administration mandated I pay additional mandatory health bennifits. Thus I was forced to force everyone into a maximum of a part time status by cutting there hours to no more than 35. Not having to pay the additonal mandated insurance and cutting their hours to 35, allowed me to increase their wages. Thus one made the same in 35 as they use to in 40. EVERY ONE WAS HAPPY, especilally the ones whom were part time to begin with. Now I'm being mandated into incrasing their pay almost 25 percent to keep legal. My square footage is still fixed, I've increased the number of employee's, and though decrease the number of hours, increased thier pay so they experience an actual gain not a loss. This new system, has caused me to either raise prices or cut back on the number of employee's. It's unfortunate, but I was forced to do the latter. I cut the one I had hired when eliminating the restrooms. And now I'm back to my original 10. Yes the cut employee isn't happy, but the other 10 are estactic. And though they fell sorry for their previous fellow worker. They have their own concerns. And when push comes to shove, EVERY ONE IS HAPPY. Tis ironic, that one cannot see the forest because of all the dam trees in the way. On a good note, I've managed to make enough money to purchase the adjacent building which will double my square footage. And the first person I'll hire is the one I was forced to let go. Had I raised my prices rather than let an employee go, I'd could have not be as competited with the other resturants. Thus not be in the position to expand and hire additonal employee's. I learned at a very earily age that it ok to want something but one must be careful of what it is they want, because sometimes they will actualy get it. Hence all those demanding an assinine increase in the minimim wage, have gotten what they wanted, and now have to pay the consequences.
OkamRazer Again, where do you get your facts from? Mexico has more illegals than every other country in the world combined. Theres a reason why they are the main focus. Do some actual research, dumbass.
Wow, did anyone (other than the entire Republican party) think this would happen?!? Who could have imagined (other than any economist) could have imagined such a thing would happen?
Wasnt Trump and republicans just opening a bottle of champaign because of the tax bill and corporations announcing bonuses and raises? Can anyone tell me how this is happening at the same time while blaming it on Obama who hasent been president for a while now?
John Belt too obvious Is it the amount of dollars? or the puchusing power of the dollar? amount of dollars business externalise expenses. If its inflation you have to go after the banks who all operate on fraud(fractional reserve) which causes inflation :-)
not very bright are you brian? Minimum wage jobs are supposed be filled by teenagers and students, on their way to further success. You aren't supposed to be able to support a family on them, you're supposed to have enough to barely take care of yourself. Low minimum wage puts pressure on people to improve themselves to make more of themselves, and leave that job to the next teen who needs gas money for the weekend.
Nathan Blades yes. They should be getting skills to move up. You should strive to settle to the bottom. If you want to be a bottom feeder then don't complain when all you get is garbage in your life.
Wiping tables and frying hamburgers was never supposed to be a career choice. People with no ambition cannot force their income to higher than their skill level. It won't work, they will just be without jobs, and on welfare, which is probably their goal anyway.
Kenton -- Why?? A wasted effort. No liberal is intelligent enough to study. Case in point; Even those who teach were given their participation college degree and certificates. [the following said with tongue-in-cheek] See. Now, don't we feel foolish?
Anyone that studies basic economics knows that no wage increase has EVER been tied to job unemployment; 16/22 wage increases in history have been tied to INCREASES. Try again.
@ the sparkle. Not at 100% more. Dunce....Business owners( which you are not one) are in the business to make money, not to make friends. People work hard to create savings, people take birth control, people realize that others will not pay their way. People, make the world what it is. You can be born on welfare and then you can become a millionaire or billionaire. Nothing can stop you. BUT, YOU have to put in the WORK effort to make it so. Once you get that into your head, nothing can stop you.......
"Not at 100% more." If you had stopped there I would have agreed quite enthusiastically. 'Dunce' No need to call names, friend. 'Business owners( which you are not one)' I most certainly am. 'business to make money, not to make friends.' Wrong on both counts. Webster's dictionary defines a friend as one that favours or promotes something; an employee favours his company with loyalty, a customer favours it with business, and an owner favours them with quality and protection. Business is the art of human relationships, 'Friendship'.
We have to many restaurants and they are not worth the money you pay for a good meal. Maybe it will bring back moms and pops with pride and great food.
Cheryl Swenson, YOU'RE 100% CORRECT. TOO MANY BUSINESS OWNERS, BUT NOT ENOUGH LEGAL IMMIGRANT WORKERS. THOSE BUSINESS OWNERS NEED TO RAISE THEIR MENU PRICES, RAISE WAGES, AND ONLY HIRE LEGAL AMERICAN WORKERS. HOW'S MY IDEA? CALIFORNIA IS THE WORST. THAT'S WHY THE LIBERALS ALLOW ILLEGALS TO ENTER OUR COUNTRY FOR THEIR VOTES.
Cheryl Swenson , I only eat at small mom and pop diners. Usually only one to two waitresses. Who seem better mannered than chain restaurants servers. I usually tip five to seven bucks per meal.
Any time a gov't. mandates to a private business that they must pay their workers a set wage , or , must hire a % of workers based on race or gender , it is called fascism. If you approve of such mandates , laws , you are a fascist . No argument , no ifs , no but's , you are a fascist .
To all the millennial employees WELCOME TO REALITY!!!!! BUSINESSES HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU!!! THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY $15 BUCKS AN HOUR IF THEY CAN HELP IT, THEY CAN AND THEY WILL!!! AGAIN WELCOME TO REALITY YOU DID IT TO YOURSELVES!!!!!!!
lisa smith we do have empathy for the poor, raising minimum wage is not helping them it is just screwing them with inflation causing their dollars to be worth less, adding inflation the retired people, and cutting jobs. Explain to me how getting people fired is having empathy?
@@stevebrawner9119 Why can't big corporate raking in billions pay their working class a few dollars more? Explain how you get out of a rut if you are just barely making enough to keep yourself from falling deeper in the rut you are already in? No one is asking for inflation. We are asking for Corporate To Pay. Rent to go down, a way to live without welfare ya duck.
@Pocahontas Warren So what do you propose? I hear no solution in your argument. One of two things must happen if we are going to survive. Prices for Everything need to drop, including housing, or businesses need to pay up. No exceptions. Stop making excuses.
What a big mistake people lost their jobs now they get unemployment Since they don’t have a paycheck now the government don’t get no money from the paychecks taxes
Wanda Roderick - doesn’t work that way. When you lift the lowest wages, it pushes up everyone’s. The roofer gets a raise as well, because well... who would be a roofer when they could work at McDs for the same wage. The roofing company has to be competitive. And before you say it just causes inflation, I’ll head you off at the pass. There isn’t a direct 1:1 correlation between increasing wages and increasing overall cost of goods and services as labor is only a portion of overall cost. This means that the buying power of everyone who receives an in-kind raise has their buying power increased.
My son did roofing for a couple of years. All year long. Him and his coworkers pay never exceeded $12-$13hr. Not sure where your figures come from. And it is certainly a hard job.
for every action there is a equal and opposite reaction - this is the key point that minimum wage protesters overlooked. they made very uniformed decisions and it never occurred to them that the owners would push back hard.
Sorry but these jobs are for young kids or retired people who just need a little pocket money. My first job was at K-Mart and I made $3.30 per hour and it paid for my gas and anything else I needed while I lived with my parents. After that, I worked my way up in the world where I now make a good living even here in California where it is pretty expensive to live. That is how it is supposed to work. These are not career jobs unless you go into food service management.
Only ignorance would have someone steal money from the owners who shoulder all the risk of running a private Enterprise. If someone wants to pay a higher wage as a choice but don't force that and steal that from others!
Maurice Graham By not paying a livable wage, isn't that stealing from their employee? If the employee had to be subsidized by the government, isn't that stealing from the taxpayer?
Another thing wages are operating in the free market which means the employee voluntarily agreed to that wage for the job. So if the employer wanted to attract the talent that was needed to complete the job they would either need to raise their wages if the talent pool wasn't available or lower it if there was an oversupply of talent. That is the law of supply and demand. It is a fault of our own government for stealing from those who have to give to those who don't.
Maurice Graham Perhaps if you could state your case a little more intelligently and make your point without harebrained accusations of theft and ignorance, I would be more inclined to make sense of what you say.
Paying CEOS for being in charge of huge corporation large sums and benefits is how they attract better CEOS and motivate current ones to earn higher profits for their organization. If you cut their salary, they will just leave.
Star Surfer A CEO is in charge of making major corporate decisions, act as the top-manager, and allocate the the company's resources to current and planned operations. It's not an easy job. You can't just give them a shit salary relative to their level of responsibility.
Raise the minimum wage..... just bring in automation..... Robots don't get sick, call out, catch an attitude or anything else... They're at work all the time. Employee: "YAY I GOT MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE" Boss: "Meet your replacement" *Brings in Automation* Employee: "WHY DON"T I HAVE MY JOB ANYMORE!?!?!?!?!"
Low skill jobs have been designed to do a few things over and over and that worker can be replaced almost immediately with the new unskilled worker taught the repetitious steps. Watch the burger fixer and ask how long it would take to learn those movements or how could you design a robot to do them.
There is nothing wrong with cleaning offices and bathrooms for a living. But why do you need a UNION to clean a toilet or empty a trash can? You don't, it's a shake down. The companies pay the UNIONS to keep employees in line and costs down.
Since when are restaurant employees entitled to higher wages? These jobs use to for younger folks, but now you are entitled to house with a picket fence for flipping burgers.
Go to these restaurants now. Look at the age's of folks. It used to be "young"...now I see freaking 80 year old's flipping burgers. Why? Mainly...living costs. They don't need to raise the wages...they need to lower the pricing. Alas, the USA's fanatical devotion to the corporate/consumer 'free market' will never see anything that fixes this. You hear these business owners bitching about how they now have to 'fire folks and turn to robots'. Really? Care to put your money where your mouth is and show/release your profits for the last 5 years? No? Huh...I wonder why. Ohhh...riiightttt... because if you did that then everyone would see that, yes, you *could* afford to keep everyone and pay them $15/hr...but then your profits drop down to just 1 new house and 1 new lambo per year (not the 3 new houses and 4 new lambo's). I'm not saying people who work to increase their businesses shouldn't get what they deserve. I'm saying that maybe there needs to be an incentive to pay their workers more. Say...a nice tax break that they can claim if they are paying their part time workers X amount per hour and their full time workers Y amount per hour...contrasted with how much they are paying their CEO's/bosses (e.g., the more a CEO/Boss gets, the less they can write off). Something like that. There's GOT to be a better way than drastically increasing the minimum wage and firing people!
Actually the free market does do this. The reason it isn't right now is it is over-regulated, making competition difficult. Cause that's how prices lower and wages raise naturally, because you're competing with other businesses. Because there's a LOT of unnecessary regulations in business competition isn't cropping up. Therefore those things aren't improving. A lot of problems in America would be fixed if we deregulated a bit.
*Ok why did we have to raise it so high??? Why couldn't we start at $9.25, or maybe a tiny bit lower??? It's like we either have too starve the masses or over compensate them.*
Some people demand a rise in the minimum wage just so that they can pay the taxes and catch up with the high cost of living, but with such rise, employers would hire fewer people, manufacturing jobs would be sent to other countries and the prices of products and services would rise. It's such a shame that many people, including politicians, lack comprehension on the economy.
I went to school, TWICE. Each time, I worked to put myself through school. I never expected anyone to help me. It took me half of my life to pay off my student loans. I did that by getting a good job by working hard. Minimum wage jobs were expected to support summer jobs, not lazy people not willing to make themselves better.
They need to do away with minimum wage laws completely and replace them with maximum-minimum wage laws. Make it where a maximum-minimum wage will never be allowed to rise or fall unless dire circumstances allow for the amendment; even then it would have to be very carefully scrutinized to allow it. Carefully calibrate on the basis when inflation drastically occurs. Crunch an economic-scale algorithm to determine when/where it can happen. No more just saying, "raise it." It causes more damage than good.
Shut Up Do You Live On Less Then 10.00 an hour & Pay 700.00 or 800.00 rent or have couple of kids? NO So Be Quite Cheap Illegals working here have been messing it up for a long time*
People who are working for restaurants, choose to do, or not to work for a company, that doesn't pay them enough. It's not my responsibility to make up for another company shortness. WHY are you fighting so venomous for city garage collectors, postal people that deliver mail, school teachers, who teach our kids or has to be patient with someone's "brat". Try not, to tell people how to spend or use their money, when you are running short...
Minimum wage goes up to $15.00 per hour. "Yay"! Say employees. Prices go up to make up the cost differential. Customers refuse to pay exhorbitant prices caused by the wage hike. Business falls off. Lay offs. Business goes under. All the (now former) employees saying "yay"...are now penniless. Businesses go to robotics, and other automation to continue having the "ability to stay viable, and make a profit". More and more people are unemployed. I'm failing to see any real plusses.
listen to his speach at 3:31 at executive team level they where giving raises not the little guy but the people who already make big money. Hes not fooling anyone with that.
WalMart also did this. They implemented a nationwide minimum wage increase of $1.50 to $2.00 an hour but they furloughed THOUSANDS of people and not only did they cut off people, they cut off hours of the ones who are still working there. What's the point of the increased wage if the hours are less? Workers are still making the same amount of money.
I worked in automation for 35 years. Entry level jobs are going away. If you cant graduate from high school you will have no chance for work. Graduating from high school will not be a guarantee. Inner city school boards need to held accountable. The city schools where I live have never had anything but F grades by the state. There is americas greatest failure.
When I first started to work I wasn't given 15 bucks and hour. I was started at 3 bucks an hour and over the years as my abilities and knowledge of the construction field increase so did my salary/hourly wage went up. Up to the point where I was getting 25 bucks an hour supervising the construction of 3 floors in a doctors building that had 4 floors where I was the supervisor of the 13 doctors offices of the 2nd,3rd, and 4th floor where they were being installed and did it in 11 months. Oh I had 12 but finished in the 11 and made my boss a hand-sum bonus where I got some of it too. So don't tell me a order taker with a computer should get 15 bucks to push a few buttom and don't even have to add up the cost since the machine does it for them. Nuff said...
People just don't realize that increasing minimum wage does not create more jobs or get people out of poverty, it does the opposite. If employers are forced to pay staff more, then they got to ether cut hours, cut staff, rise prices of products, or just close the doors altogether.
Congress needs to act now. There should be taxes on each robot that replaces a human where the robot "pays" into healthcare, income and unemployment funds. The employers getting a virtually zero cost workforce exposes humans to societal issues never seen before.
Andromeda451 Dont want to lose the work? Dont support the wage increase on base level positions. There are millions of varied skilled work out there. If you don't want to make 7.50 an hour then leave that job and go get training in a skilled labor career and make six figures in less than 5 years.
The employees that made the cut are worth the higher wages! Here in P.a. we have full time employees being subsidized with food stamps! why should the state let businesses off the hook? People say unions are no longer needed! Think again!
Well what is the answer? They have suppressed wages for over 40 years and eliminated all middle class jobs. We can't continue to survive on 1980's wages while dealing with 2019 prices. Something has to give somewhere!
"If you raise the minimum wage, then its going to raise the rent. When it raises the rent then your'e going to have to build affordable housing, when you have to build affordable housing then you tax the people to build the affordable housing. When you tax people to build the affordable housing the people move out of the city and you have to raise taxes on the people who live in the city. That is how you hollow out the income of a major metropolitan area" Ben Shapiro
I'm in the middle of this issue. While I don't agree that minimum wage shouldn't be increased, I also think that $15 is too much. My number is $10/hr. Thoughts?
When all this minimum wage crap began I told my wife and also opined in "comments" of articles that the end result would be one of a few possibilities: #1 Raise wages and hike prices then lose customers. #2 Raise wages and decrease business income AND THAT AINT GONNA HAPPEN! And #3 Raise wages, call employee meeting, announce wage hike the immediately FIRE HALF THE STAFF AND TELL THE ONES REMAINING, "Congratulations. You've got your raise. Now - work twice as hard and twice as long as before OR YOU TOO ARE FIRED"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See? Communist unions won and the idiot workers ALL LOST. Great days in America.
When Minimum Wages are too low it forces the Tax Payer too pay for things like Food Stamps. The lower the Minimum Wage is the less Tax that is payed. The less they earn the Less they will buy. It is very hard too sell something too a person on $7.25 an hour. Low minimum wages are bad for the Economy.
I didn't make 15 an hour working construction for the first 4 years! You want 15 an hour to work inside an air condition building, flipping hamburgers???? WTF!!!
2 QUESTIONS??? If there is enough of a backlash, will the states lower the minimum wage? AND If that is done, will the fast food industry re-hire unskilled labor, or will they stay with the machines?? I honestly don't know.
I worked for AT&T several years ago and they were always looking for ways to reduce. They would declare surplus and then transfer employees or offer early retirement. They were always looking for ways to get more work out of us too.
As a followup... Restaurants going out of business after reducing the quality of customer service by making food take longer to get to the customer. Or... Restaurant chain CEOs fire handful of overpaid execs who really did nothing anyway, freeing up capital to give the raise employees should have gotten a long time ago...Corporate bonuses will now be based on value of execs rather than entitlements.
I don't get it. My daughter was a waitress here in NJ who made $2.15 an hour plus tips. What the heck are they talking about with waiters and waitresses?
I'll tell you what. If I was the owner of a restaurant and was told I had to pay a minimum of $15 an hour, the first thing I'd do is get rid of anyone under the age of 20. Then, the only people i'd hire would be working mothers and fathers who would actually appreciate the job. I'd also bring on a few seniors part-time that need a little help with their fixed incomes. There is not one damn kid in this country that needs to cost me $40,000 year just to flip hamburgers.
The sad thing is that if minimum wage had kept pace with inflation since 1968, it would be around $15/hr. But in that case a nurse and a cop would be making $30/hr and a gallon of milk would be $6. With the international megacorporations, it's all a lose-lose for the working man.
the tax cuts were supposed to help employers pay for this kind of thing , but instead they are using it as an excuse to automate everything , cut back on the staff that's expendable
Nobody complained when a $39,000 dishwashing machine replaced the dishwasher not when you could buy your own dishwasher, clothes washer, microwave, etc.
Politicians patting themselves on the back saying " there now look what I did for you. " They did nothing they forced employers to do it. So don't blame business, it was politicians that priced you right out of a job.
ECONOMISTS TOLD POLITICIANS THAT A $15 MINIMUM WAGE WOULD COST ENTRY LEVEL JOBS, AND NOW THIS IS HAPPENING. THIS IS POLITICIANS WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS OVERRULING ECONOMISTS WHO DO UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS AND PREDICTED THIS RESULT.
I'm with Stuart. The day the workers start making 15 dollars an hour, is the day I stop tipping.

This 15 dollars an hour is killing the restaurant and fast food businesses and keeping customers away and it's back firing on employees as they lose their job's. Democrats past this bill without thinking of the consequences.
They know exactly what they are doing
I can understand trying to keep it around $8-10 an hour but $15? They're INSANE.
They knew, everybody knew, except the millennial crybabies. Now they can cry for food stamps and welfare.
That's exactly what they want too. Young people to rely on government handouts means more votes for them.
Edmond Casasa Democrats never think about there consequences or anything else for that matter.
Make sure to thank democrat/liberals!
Vaughn reed jr - Go to Your safe place and chew some crayons......
Vaughn reed jr - Lol- Born and raised 100% American Patriot
Gary Pollan make sure you think the Republicans and the Democrats
Damn commies
True capitalism..... freedom to not patronize scrooge-like restaurants. No employees, no customers sounds fair. True, Mr. Scrooge, you don't owe anybody anything, but they don't owe you either. Children who don't share their toys a little bit should have to play alone.
Understanding basic finances broke me from leftism. The numbers just do not work.
Then when you realize that you start to realize a lot of leftist propaganda is nonsense
I bloody knew this would happen... You don't make a living off of entry level positions. These minimum wage jobs help you develop a skill
The real program is the shortage of SKILLED labor. Most people now days do not have a marketable skill.
@Pyar Squared The main reason for the shortage of skilled labor is few people now days want to even try to learn a skill. And the people coming into the US unskilled are most often not given a chance to learn a skill even if they want to. The whole thing is messed up.
@Pyar Squared Like $15 an hour flipping burgers.
@Pyar Squared News Flash. They underpay skilled workers, too! My profession requires a license, certification and a degree is preferred and they STILL don't want to pay a decent wage or benefits. Been looking for a year and it's been tough..............
What skill let's be real any stoner can do these jobs
I love how McDonald's has put kiosks in to replace the marchers, now when I order a coffee with cream and no sugar I actually get what I ordered.
Exactly! And they can program the kiosk to talk to you respectfully unlike some of these people they hire.
This is so NOT true, a human still needs to read and make the order correctly
@Angel S for now. Robots already exist for the grill
Hence all those demanding an assinine increase in the minimim wage, have gotten what they wanted, and now have to pay the consequences.
get rid of the illegials first
William Straughan learn to spell first, then maybe you’ll make more than minimum wage.
Sergio Sergio Hahahaha oh man
Want to pay 5 dollars for a tomato?
OkamsRazer WTF are you talking about? 60 percent of illegals cross the border illegally. Do you even know what "most" means?
Boo Boo nice job on blindly repeating what the media told you GJ
Nathan Blades yes. They should be getting skills to move up. You should strive to settle to the bottom. If you want to be a bottom feeder then don't complain when all you get is garbage in your life.
Wiping tables and frying hamburgers was never supposed to be a career choice. People with no ambition cannot force their income to higher than their skill level. It won't work, they will just be without jobs, and on welfare, which is probably their goal anyway.
With the $15 rate, my attitude is the tip is now built into the price of the “experience “.
That is hilarious... I could only imagine what you would say about your own job trimming your pay down to $15 an hour...
I think leftists sometimes need to study some basic economics.
Kenton -- Why?? A wasted effort. No liberal is intelligent enough to study. Case in point; Even those who teach were given their participation college degree and certificates. [the following said with tongue-in-cheek] See. Now, don't we feel foolish?
I failed basic Economy because I was liberal at the time!
"Not at 100% more."
If you had stopped there I would have agreed quite enthusiastically.
'Dunce'
No need to call names, friend.
'Business owners( which you are not one)'
I most certainly am.
'business to make money, not to make friends.'
Wrong on both counts.
Worker co-ops would do wonders. No one votes against their own job.
LOL.. Littles towns died 2 decades ago... you think they can all of a sudden make a profit again?
Cheryl Swenson ,
I only eat at small mom and pop diners. Usually only one to two waitresses. Who seem better mannered than chain restaurants servers.
I usually tip five to seven bucks per meal.
Mom and pops can't pay 15 an hour either. What is this ?
Robots don't screw up orders, call in sick, spit in your food, and don't whine about working! Great idea
What if it got a virus?
robots dont pay into pensions num nuts
@charles hedberg Damn you had me laughing with those first couple sentences. Good stuff.
They do. Lol
Pay them a decent wage you cheap Fuck
Another successful day for the democrats-More lost jobs=More government dependents.
May be true, but don't act like anybody is going to win this. The businesses WILL suffer.
You're caps locking but no one cares.
lisa smith we do have empathy for the poor, raising minimum wage is not helping them it is just screwing them with inflation causing their dollars to be worth less, adding inflation the retired people, and cutting jobs.
Stop making excuses.
what did you expect? force employers to pay more for less. they have to fire/layoff some to keep there doors open. simple economics.
If you thought service was bad before, wait til you see it after
Any extra money made was lost by inflation and hikes in rental costs.
Along with higher media costs and higher electric bills, higher medical insurance premiums.
The local government will get more taxes from your increased pay.
What a big mistake people lost their jobs now they get unemployment Since they don’t have a paycheck now the government don’t get no money from the paychecks taxes
Personally at $15/hour and the price of food at the restaurant going up, i am no longer tipping my waiter/waitress.
Let that settle in. the State requires that a busboy get $15/hour + tips.
Wanda, Roofers get $34k/yr and only work about 7 months. It's hard work but not 'hard labor".
Wanda Roderick - here’s what happens when you raise wages for the lowest people: ua-cam.com/video/UAcBYA9ZwVQ/v-deo.html
My son did roofing for a couple of years. All year long. Him and his coworkers pay never exceeded $12-$13hr. Not sure where your figures come from. And it is certainly a hard job.
Brian A Davis as they should
Fast food is meant for HS/college job or as an additional part time job to earn extra cash NOT to support a family on. 🤦♂️
for every action there is a equal and opposite reaction - this is the key point that minimum wage protesters overlooked. they made very uniformed decisions and it never occurred to them that the owners would push back hard.
In 1974 Kmart paid me 90 cents an hour.
the good thing about robots is you don't have to worry about some disgruntled employee spitting in your food.
Only ignorance would have someone steal money from the owners who shoulder all the risk of running a private Enterprise. If someone wants to pay a higher wage as a choice but don't force that and steal that from others!
Maurice Graham
By not paying a livable wage, isn't that stealing from their employee? If the employee had to be subsidized by the government, isn't that stealing from the taxpayer?
Maurice Graham Too bad you don't know wtf you're talking about!
I run two companies and support the jobs of over 12 people. How many jobs do you help create and support?
Another thing wages are operating in the free market which means the employee voluntarily agreed to that wage for the job. So if the employer wanted to attract the talent that was needed to complete the job they would either need to raise their wages if the talent pool wasn't available or lower it if there was an oversupply of talent. That is the law of supply and demand. It is a fault of our own government for stealing from those who have to give to those who don't.
Maurice Graham Perhaps if you could state your case a little more intelligently and make your point without harebrained accusations of theft and ignorance, I would be more inclined to make sense of what you say.
Cut the CEO's salary instead.....
Paying CEOS for being in charge of huge corporation large sums and benefits is how they attract better CEOS and motivate current ones to earn higher profits for their organization. If you cut their salary, they will just leave.
tree fiddy but a raise for someone that doesn't needed is more legit? Mind you they just push paper thats it.
Star Surfer A CEO is in charge of making major corporate decisions, act as the top-manager, and allocate the the company's resources to current and planned operations. It's not an easy job. You can't just give them a shit salary relative to their level of responsibility.
Its the shareholders not the CEOs
Patty Cake thinks that CEOs swim around in pools full of gold coins all day; she been watchin' too much TV.
Suprise suprise..
If the minimum wage is forced to be $15/hr, employers are going to fire anyone not WORTH $15/hr.
Raise the minimum wage..... just bring in automation..... Robots don't get sick, call out, catch an attitude or anything else... They're at work all the time.
Employee: "YAY I GOT MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE"
Boss: "Meet your replacement"
*Brings in Automation*
Employee: "WHY DON"T I HAVE MY JOB ANYMORE!?!?!?!?!"
As they say, the true minimum wage is ZERO.
Low skill jobs have been designed to do a few things over and over and that worker can be replaced almost immediately with the new unskilled worker taught the repetitious steps. Watch the burger fixer and ask how long it would take to learn those movements or how could you design a robot to do them.
enjoy your 15 dollars an hr job that you no longer have ^_-
There is nothing wrong with cleaning offices and bathrooms for a living. But why do you need a UNION to clean a toilet or empty a trash can? You don't, it's a shake down. The companies pay the UNIONS to keep employees in line and costs down.
its all about greed
cant wait till the restraunts go to all robots , even the cashiers , can you imagine the amount of robberies thats coming LOL
It’ll all be cashless
@@wlonsdale1 oh i dont mean just for money , youll have people go in steal food in the back or take whatever they can
Since when are restaurant employees entitled to higher wages? These jobs use to for younger folks, but now you are entitled to house with a picket fence for flipping burgers.
You might want to go outside and look at the economy these days. There are few high paying jobs now.
theuglykwan there are plenty of high paying jobs. The only problem is there is that dreaded 4 letter word involved-work
Go to these restaurants now.
Oh, there's actually quite a few decent paying jobs. coal mining, truck drivers, IT specialists...
Or start them at $10, and give them automatic COLAs every year like the federal employees get.
Natasel Wrong Question, Why not get rid of the Federal Reserve instead?
Natasel Why should a government take a loan from a private entity? What happens if the Government can't pay back the federal Reserve?
It was calculated that 15 is a livable wage, at the current point in time compared with yesterdays prices on food, gas, rent, etc.
$15 was a vote buying gimmick with little concern for the consequences. Lose your job, vote for us and we’ll give money to you.
ALL done under the guise of helping the working man, yet how is losing their jobs helping?
Some people demand a rise in the minimum wage just so that they can pay the taxes and catch up with the high cost of living, but with such rise, employers would hire fewer people, manufacturing jobs would be sent to other countries and the prices of products and services would rise.
It's such a shame that many people, including politicians, lack comprehension on the economy.
We've already raised wages.... at the executive team level. lol...
HEE HEE KEEP THIS INSANITY UP KIDS AND YOU CAN LIVE WITH MOM AND DAD FOR EVER
I’m going to be rich when minimum wage is $15 per hours! 😃😅😂😂😂😂😂
No more just saying, "raise it." It causes more damage than good.
raising min. just killed ur job! how u like it now!.....lol
Shut Up Do You Live On Less Then 10.00 an hour & Pay 700.00 or 800.00 rent or have couple of kids? NO So Be Quite Cheap Illegals working here have been messing it up for a long time*
Lol servers can kiss their tips good-bye
I am not "tipping" someone for delivering my food, that they did not cook 😋
Tipping says more about you than the person you're not tipping. If you can't afford to tip someone, you can't afford to eat that food.
Good. Servants should make enough money that we don't need to tip them. I'm tired of subsidizing businesses that don't pay their workers.
The Sparkle Zone I agree. I am NOT going to "tip" someone for delivering a hamburger, they didn't fix...
Zach Simpson I disagree STRONGLY...
Minimum wage: Goes up.
Jack in the Box: Robots.
Varney is kind of guy who is millionaire but finding ways to not pay tips.
Hey DIPShit, conservatives actually tip better and give more to charity. FACT!!!
So?
Ive been eliminating restaurants. I dont think the mea is worth the price anymore. Been cooking at home, losing weight, saving $, and loving it.
Only thing I don't like, this guy doesn't know that waiters and waitresses don't make minimum wage. That's why you tip them
"Hospitality" is also at an all time LOW!
For these economic illiterates, these wage increases are encouraging owners to automate and do away with entry level jobs.
listen to his speach at 3:31 at executive team level they where giving raises not the little guy but the people who already make big money.
I will never eat at a restaurant where I will be served by a robot.
One fact that is never mentioned is that tipped employees do not get the minimum wage that is talked about.
People just don't realize that increasing minimum wage does not create more jobs or get people out of poverty, it does the opposite. If employers are forced to pay staff more, then they got to ether cut hours, cut staff, rise prices of products, or just close the doors altogether.
That was a most blatant admission of where the tax cut savings is going. "Yes, we've already given some raises...at the executive level."
Congress needs to act now. There should be taxes on each robot that replaces a human where the robot "pays" into healthcare, income and unemployment funds. The employers getting a virtually zero cost workforce exposes humans to societal issues never seen before.
Andromeda451
Dont want to lose the work? Dont support the wage increase on base level positions. There are millions of varied skilled work out there.
If you don't want to make 7.50 an hour then leave that job and go get training in a skilled labor career and make six figures in less than 5 years.
dantemike1 u 2 a$$wipe
Andromeda451
I see you went aftee the low-hanging fruit...
Why do you think workers are protesting the increase?
What did they expect. Want more money, get an education or training!
Waitresses and waiters make $3 per hour not $15. But I did say the ones trying to raise the minimum wage were cutting themselves out of a job.
The employees that made the cut are worth the higher wages! Here in P.a. we have full time employees being subsidized with food stamps! why should the state let businesses off the hook? People say unions are no longer needed! Think again!
In 2022, California minimum wage will be $15 per hour. I work in a hospital and I'm getting paid less than $15 per hour. Should I be concerned?
The minimum wage in Belgium is € 9.47. And we pay 52% taxes.
Well what is the answer? They have suppressed wages for over 40 years and eliminated all middle class jobs. We can't continue to survive on 1980's wages while dealing with 2019 prices. Something has to give somewhere!
It was headed this way with kiosks and such. The raising of the minimum wage just accelerated the idea sooner, than later.
That is how you hollow out the income of a major metropolitan area"
Ben Shapiro
I don't tip for food delivery, if they charge for delivery. No point in buying the same service twice.
"We have already given out wage increases.... at the executive level" - way to help the working class
Less workers in restaurants you get worse service.
Notice the raises were given out at the executive level. Keep the hourly employees at a pay level that requires government assistance.
I didn't make 15 an hour working construction for the first 4 years! You want 15 an hour to work inside an air condition building, flipping hamburgers???? WTF!!!
If there should be no minimum wages, how about stopping all entertainment and meals at restaurants deductions for tax purposes.
I can't afford to pay my workers on the front lines but my general manager just financed a new car and they make sure I have customers. lmao
2 QUESTIONS??? If there is enough of a backlash, will the states lower the minimum wage? AND If that is done, will the fast food industry re-hire unskilled labor, or will they stay with the machines?? I honestly don't know.
Is anyone with two brain cells to rub together really surprised that this is the result?
If employees are still asking for that 20% after the wage increase then we can clearly see a sign of greediness
