Clarke County, VA is considering honoring Thomas Laws in a planned revamp of the courthouse green in Berryville. Let's hope they get the job done as his story is an important part of the county's history.

What are the sources for the information presented? I'm researching a free man on color in Loudoun County who may have been a scout/spy, so I'm always interested to know more about these incidents.

The story is best known by searching in Rebecca Wright. Run a web search and you will get a bunch there. There is a book written late in the 19th century about this. Sheridan talks rather extensively in his memoirs as well.
