- In this episode, Andrew Roscoe provides insights into a new book His Sword a Scalpel by Jack Dempsey and the Michigan Civil War Association. The pages take you on the journey of learning about General Charles Stuart Tripler, MD. A Veteran of multiple wars culminating in the Civil War as Medical Director of the Army of the Potomac. This is a view into a part of the War that is seldom looked at. An added bonus is how the sales of this book will help raise funds for a new monument. As you watch to learn about the book and Tripler, Andrew will also share this effort.

Thank you! My wife and I have both read the book and have recommended it to friends. Mr. Dempsey did a terrific job of researching Tripler's contributions and his steadfastness in the face of those who weren't members of his "fan club."
Glad you enjoyed!

Can anyone fill me in. New immigrants and enlistment to become citizens. What were the rules of gaining citizenship ? Was enlistment into federal service in any way connected to the process of being a citizen during the American Civil War?
