I am smack in the middle of peri/menopause. No period here for 7 months! My symptoms have been going strong since about 2020. This is what I have experienced on a off: joint pain, fatigue, moodiness, low energy, headaches, hot flashes, night sweats, dizziness, ear ringing incisively, heart palpitations, loss of patience, vertigo, clumsiness, low iron, gas, bloating, the list goes on and on. Some weeks are better than others and I chug along. i can not take HRT since I had a health issue 12 years ago. I workout, walk, try to eat lots of protein and stay as hydrated as possible. I breath deep, stretch a lot, pray and meditate as often as I can and try to smile all day. Is it easy? No! Especially having two teenage boys, a husband and an elderly mom and sister with with special needs! Whew! It's a lot but it is doable. Why is it doable? Because my livelihood depends on it! Ladies, prioritize YOU first as often as possible. I know life happens but we must get back on the train and focus!!! This is what works for me and its a rollercoaster ride. It's ever changing and I go with the flow, I don't fight it! I am 50 btw

Vitamin C oil serum in the morning and Rosehip oil in the evening has drastically helped. And good face creams.

I adore facial oils 👌🏻, I reach for them much more often than moisturizer 🧴 (although I need a gallon of that too!) 😆 Carrot seed oil is a great after sun ☀️ oil for age spots and spf. 🤗

Jessica, you are always so helpful and such an inspiration. I am a 68 year old woman, a fitness enthusiast since I was in my 20's. I wish I had this perimenopause info back in my day, but thankfully I did alot of my own research and kind of figured it out. I can't say enough how important movement, exercise and walking has been on my aging journey. You are a wonderful resource, with such valuable information and I so appreciate all you do. Thanks again!!

I wholeheartedly agree and feel grateful for your sharing these golden pieces of advice, Jessica. I turned 54 this last Summer and in the middle of menopause. Yes, I have had a lot of changes both inside and outside of my body. Last year, I even broke my 5th metatarsal bone on my right foot and got a repair surgery, which stopped me from my 20 something year old daily running. I felt miserable, realizing my weakened bones, incompetent physical capability for training, lots of sunspots that are always ready to get darker, thinning hair, etc etc... UGH. It just felt like I was in deep darkness without my running for almost half a year, but thanks to your wonderful pilates and stretching videos, I had been gradually, slowly, but steadily able to get back on my feet again, Jessica. How could I ever thank you enough, Jessica. As you mentioned, I have learned how to accept the positive sides of ageing and how not to push myself to limit, especially when my body is screaming for help and quality rest. Today, I still log 7-8 miles a day, 5 to 6 days a week, feeling grateful and peaceful at my own pace. Girls, believe in yourselves and love yourselves just the way you are, no matter what.
Again, I deeply appreciate your precious words for us all, Jessica. Stay well!

Your analogies are so true I loved your reference to the exercises being a ‘bank’ to prep you for the next phase of life. I exercise every day and try not to do too much to put me under stress, rather focusing on slow careful and controlled moves, this helps for me and I exercise according to my needs. I love weights and try to prioritise sleep as then other things fall in place slightly more easily. I loved your perimenopause work out. I also walk lots too. Thank you I am new to your challenge and your information is so valuable and helpful ❤️x

Thank you so much for sharing, Jessica. I found tapping (EFT) very helpful for my emotional health. I started with reading Nick Ortner's book, then bought the app, and I find both as very helpful tools on my journey through peri. Love the idea of walks and focusing on gratitude and positivity!

For me, perimenopause has brought on excessive sweating and odor that I didn’t have before. I’ve cut back tremendously on my workouts and walks because my odor is so offensive.

Thanks for this. Have a look at using a retinol oil in the evening. Caroline Hirons is a great person to follow for guidance on skincare and mature skin. I also took the decision to stop any alcohol intake and my symptoms are so much better. My body just did not process it at all well and my night sweats were always worse for consuming it.

💯 I haven’t had any alcohol in over 3 years and no desire to drink it again. Pineapple 🍍 juice 🧃 is great . Trader Joe’s has four pk cans or you can get Dole as well. 😇

Hi Jessica, I love watching all your videos but unfortunately I'm not able to do all the exercises b'cos I've knee problems (doing some knee exercises from one of your videos on knee problems) and had hip replacement two years ago. I want to know whether I can do the exercises to tighten inner thighs which was on one of your videos after hip replacement surgery. Thank you for all the pilates exercises.

How many walks a day so you take, or for how long? I looove walking, mentally and physically. I’ve been doing these things and I’m now done with menopause and it’s made a huge difference, but it’s nice to hear someone else affirm it.

I personally try to do 25 minutes a day as I find that the minimum of what makes me happy and works for my body :). I'll do maybe a little shorter on days I have a big workout and many times I'll do longer around 45 minutes if I have the time!

I'm experiencing something strange with my right hip. I've suddenly lost range of motion with it and I don't recall an injury etc. I've had an x-ray and my hip joint looks fine. I recently read in a book by Christina Northrup that she experienced limited range of motion in her hip during perimenopause and did pilates to loosen the muscles around the hip. I'm just curious as a pilates instructor (and PT) if you've seen this relation between a sudden limited range of motion in a joint like a hip and perimenopause. I don't have any issues when moving my leg forward and back (like walking), but bring my leg across the midline of my body (like trying to stretch my knee to opposite shoulder) or out to the side (sitting in butterfly) there is some pinching in my thigh. I literally feel like my right hip is stuck and no amount of stretching or trying to mobilize the muscles around my hip will bring the range of motion any further.

Hormone changes definitely affect every single part of our bodies including joints, muscles, ligaments, bones, etc. Remember, women are losing Estrogen, Testosterone & Progesterone. Gentle exercise is so vital, good sleep, minimal stress, eating clean, etc. Every one is different. Each woman is so unique. For me, starting bioidentical Hormone replacement therapy along with diet, exercise, sleep, managing stress, etc has helped tremendously! No synthetic hormones & absolutely NO birth control in any form.

My symptoms have been before starting BHRT were: severe anxiety, hot flashes, sweaty feet, overall sweaty, sleep disturbances, vertigo, tinnitus, joint pain, brain fog, depression, dry eyes, dry mouth, dry skin, skin changes, irregular periods, sudden rapid weight gain, very low ability to handle stress, cognitive changes & so much more!! All of that on top of being hypothyroid & it all overlaps. Thankfully BHRT has tremendously helped! Self care is so important.
