Canucks Trade Mikheyev, Lafferty and a 2027 2nd to Hawks for a 2027 4th

- I like the cap space this creates for Vancouver and the Hawks get another relatively high draft pick in the deal.

The Canucks just keep dumping the players they don’t want anymore off in Chicago 😂😂. Dickinson, Beauvillier, and now Mikheyev. I hope they use this money to sign Zadorov.
if it works, it works.
Tampa was doing that for awhile
We now have just over 22.5 million in cap space to work with. We should be able to get Zadorov and another one or two big name free agents.
Zadorov/Myers biggest dline ever
They will

Sam Lafferty hawks legend
Fun fact! He was only in Chicago a short time, but he played hard and became a fan favorite.
The Hawks will continue to do these types of trades to fill out their roster with veterans, pick up draft picks from teams with cap issues, and meet the cap floor which they are way below at present.
That's the joke guy. "Legend" was sarcastic because of the short time.
Laff is a Leafs legend
I genuinely hope this is a trade that works out for all parties. Mikheyev seems like a good guy who just lost his finishing touch. Hope he can find it in Chicago and that Vancouver puts the newfound money to good use.
He didn’t lose his finishing touch, the injuries just wrecked him
Mikheyev’s wrist is cooked. I thought he’d overcome his wrist injury but that’s not the case.
He's never had more than 32 points in a single season. The dude never had a touch to lose.
Mikheyev never really had that finishing touch even dating back to his days with the Leafs. Speedy guy who got hot at the right time and got overpaid in free agency. Will still be a good player for the Hawks.
He looked so good until his Wrist Injury, hasn’t been the same since
Sad to see Promising Young Russians come into the NHL undrafted and fail, despite Great Numbers in Russia
I really like when the Canucks and hawks trade! We got Dickinson and a 2nd from Vancouver and he has been huge for us. I hope that Mikheyev can get healthy and back on track!
As someone who's a fan of both these teams, I love it when they make trades. This feels like a win win
I heard it usually takes two years for ACL injuries to be fully recoverable from. Mikheyev didn't look the same coming back from the injury in 2023 so maybe he's finally recovered now.
Mikheyev really REALLY needed a change of scenery. He had a really tough time scoring in Vancouver. I can’t wait to see what Alvin does with this cap space.
For the short time he was here, Sam Lafferty became a fan favorite here in Chicago.
He was real good for us for like one third of the season and than disappeared including playoffs
@@samslone9457
A beast on the P.K. scored a couple of shorties, if I recall.
If a fourth line winger cost you the playoffs, you got bigger problems.
Chicago gets a couple players that make their team better plus improved draft position, and Vancouver gets cap space. Love a win-win trade like this
Vancouver pleasure doing business with ya, seems good for both parties
agreed.
Miks was so often in the right place at the right time on the ice but could never finish, he has great potential to turn things around in Chicago so best of luck to him
im just happy it didnt end with a mikheyev buyout, will miss sam but excited to see what happens with the newfound cap space
Now sign Joshua and Zadorov now.
Joshua might be able to get close to $4 million on the open market and I saw at least one report that Zadorov could get $6.5 million. They are not worth that much, but I wouldn't be shocked if that happened.
Totally , two big impactful players can do a lot especially in the playoffs , I am sorry I am not sure Petey is a playoff performer and yet he is making Mcdavid money
@@mastersmmaandfitness7661 Petey will be a playoff performer, just not yet apparently but he's still young he's gonna have lots of chances coming up.
What a trade. I love this group.
It's not a good trade. It's a good SAVE. The mistake was made when the Canucks signed him. This merely salvages their huge mistake. The Canucks are still losers in this trade, but have minimized their loss.
@@user-ld6wo4rv8hcorrect take
lafferty had his best year in chicago, last trade we had with canucks got us dickinson who has been amazing. im pretty happy
I think this is a great trade for the hawks. They got what they wanted, more people with experience to play with Bedard and the other younglings.
Oh no! THG says this is a total win for Van!
@@fubartotale3389 He said it was good for both teams, just even better for Vancouver because it addresses a more important issue for a better price than expected.
i was so rooting for Mikheyev, such a player as NHL is not an easy league to make it, wishing him the best!
Wow are the Canucks so much smarter than the Leafs. Bravo. 🎉🎉🎉
It may not seem like it, but could this trade be a strong indication that Chicago is going to pick Demidov at number 2? Hmmm
With so many teams “in” on Guentzel I imagine his price is going up and up. Wonder if he’s gonna be the big overpay this year for whoever courts him.
Lafferty will be missed on the Canucks. He’s that damn good on the bottom 6.
you know how many break aways Mikheyev had with the Leafs where he always comes up empty, guy has speed to burn but no finish, if he had finish he would be a 30 goal guy.
I remember trading 2027 nhl draft picks in like nhl 14, seeing them actually getting traded now is wild
I havent seen Tiny Dancer anywhere in draft talks tho 😂 my boi fell off the map
RIP SERGEI BEREZIN
Chicago definitely gets better here also. Seems like a win win. Retained salary on a multi year contract while adding two bottom six players who are better than what they had. Adding a 2nd that would more than likely be moved for a player or higher pick too makes sense. Seems like a very good win win trade.
I find wasting a retention slot on such a small amount odd. Chicago must have been asking quite a bit more to eat the whole contract.
@@kurtwpgmy guess is they were looking for Zadorov to come back.
I just felt bad for Mikheyev this season, the effort was there but the puck just wouldnt go in for him. I think both teams got what they wanted, surprised how little salary the Canucks retained.
This is PRO sports. Effort alone doesn't cut it. LOL... RESULTS or bust.
Cap space needed. This is good.
Zadorov money
Davidson does it again thanks to his ample cap space. Nice trade. Blackhawks to another second round pick "Don't mind if we do."
Mickeyov is gonna be Demidovs Translator 😮
Here's hoping the change of scenery benefits Mikheyev the way it did Jason Dickinson. Jason has been terrific since arriving in Chicago. It will be great to see Sam Lafferty back, should he decide to sign there again. I hated to see him go. Kyle from Sudbury still has something like $11 million more to go to get to the cap floor. It will be interesting to see what he does to reach it.
It took awhile for Dickinson to click in but at the end of the season I really liked his game. I would've kept him but hey ,good for you guys
SIGN ZADOROV!!!!!!
Amen
This is a good trade that I really hope benefits both organizations.
This channel is the best way to approach a chill offseason. Much love, THG.
From the Hawk;s perspective, I think this was a move specifically to have a fellow Russian speaking guy on the Blackhawks for when they draft Demidov. This puts zero doubt in my mind that that is who they will draft at 2nd overall.
We can only hope
You somehow forgot to mention that the Hawks are millions below the cap FLOOR.
But yeah, this one was a total win for Van.
20M for silovs, myers, zadarov and guentzel or 2 top 6 F instead of guentzel
The Stanley cup chilling in the background on the shelf is epic
jake guentzal... COME ON DOWN YOU ARE A CANUCK
It would be a huge mistake to sign Guentzal.

Awesome trade for Vancouver ❤
I officially love the Blackhawks. Thank you so much!!
Good trade for both teams
Van though is ecstatic with cap space , low cost
Again they have good flexibility to either add Zadorov or Dakota, or dare I say both. Or UFA market
Might be a good time for some of Vancouver's prospects to take the next step as well.
That Jake Walman cap dump is looking more and more like a head scratcher now. You would think Walman is a way more attractive option for cheaper and not having to give up a 4th round pick as well.
Yeah I don’t understand Detroit
Yzerman is either about to run the franchise into the ground for fourteen years or pull off the greatest turnaround of all time.
Surely someone would have picked him up on waivers, a second seems a needlessly high price
That was as stupid as it gets. I mean he signed that Holl guy and instead of getting rid of him, Steve goes and makes an even bigger blunder. And this is from Canucks fan.
@@RukaRadebe Sean Shapiro recently reported that Yzerman apparently didn't shop him around very much and that the Sharks would have definitely claimed him off waivers for free like they did with Barclay Goodrow. So they literally got a 2nd round pick for nothing.
Good deal for both teams
Sounds like a good move for the Canucks, hopefully pays off for both teams.
They got it done. Good job. Can't wait to see what comes next.
Sam Laff is back with the boys
Now we have enough money to sign Tanev, toffoli and stecher
Another great vid, you've earned your sugar cookie.
Huge cap space for free agency and zadorov
When the Hawks traded Lafferty to the Leafs at the 2023 trade deadline, Lafferty left a post on Twitter saying how much he liked playing in Chicago, and thanking the Fans. Lafferty will sign with the Hawks, which means that Blackwell is likely out the door.
Nah they have WAY more than enough room for both and Blackwell has been putting in work with Dickinson and Anderson. My bet is they send Entwistle down and try and get Reichel hot then dump him. Then call Enty back up for the 4th line.
@@jdog345 I guess we were both wrong. Lafferty signed with Buffalo and Blackwell and Entwistle are both gone, signing with other Clubs.
Good trade for both teams if the nux can use the cap wisely, guess we'll see soon enough who they're going after.
2027 2nd? I can Iive with that.
My two favorite teams making a trade that's good for both, this day is awesome
This is a good trade for both teams. Cap space for Vancouver, while essentially trading (way) down in the future 2027 Draft. Roster players on affordable and short-term contracts for Chicago, while picking up a 2nd round pick.
Wow the Sharks GOT A DEAL for Walman if this is what the Hawks got.
Welcome back
Big W for the Nucks. This wad cheap cap space. But if Milheyev can reinvigorate in Chicago, it could work out well for them too.
Wow the Canucks head office isn’t total garbage. ❤
hey Shannon idk if you consider recommendations for career videos, I haven't seen one on Hossa and he probably is more interesting of a player - but I would actually love a Niklas Hjalmarrson video, one of the best defensive defensemens, I and many Hawks fans considered him the #2 behind Keith but ofc Seabrook mostly played with Keith for a lot of years.
I know fans are down on trading draft picks for cap dumps, but as a math equation, if doing so equals playoff rounds won, and continued success, then it is a win win. Somewhere out there, Benning is still trying to figure out what went wrong.
Hopefully they dont do some long overpriced free agency signing in the form of Lindholm trade. Better be careful with the next move
I love this, would be nice if we didn't have to retain any space. Also kind of weird that the Hawks and Canucks are being friendly like this but I'm all for it.
I remember when Chicago was making trades like this after the 2010 season for quite some time...then they would ink players like Bryan Bickell to deals that hamstrung them further and precipitated more such jettisoning and purging of the roster.
How is this similar? Short term, relatively low cap hit, if Lafferty doesnt work out, they can let him go as a UFA.
Hamstrung? They are still 11 million BELOW the cap floor.
KD is looking years down the road, something stanny boy never did, K.D. is the anti stan.
The fact that they paid the same price as Detroit did with Walman is surprising because he had a better year and is cheaper.
Honestly great for the hawks to get their kids support and get a high pick
I'm curious about the conversation that lead to 2027 draft picks being exchanged rather than 2025, 2026 or 2028.
Thank gawd.
I didn't think they would get more than a bag of practice pucks for Mikheyev. One goal in 61 games on Patterson's wing is just unbelievably bad. I would get more than that and I haven't put on the skates in 5 years.
Its hard not to like this for Chicago. Mickey can be good, put him with that speed with bedard and things could happen. Laf is pretty good bottom 6 and could be flipped at the next trade deadline, and a second is good too.
I get the deal from vans end too, but i like this for chic
No mention of Sergei Berezin death ?
😲😲😢when did he pass
I liked him as a player. RIP
Good trade for Vancouver
Good trade from the Blackhawks perspective. 2 years left on Miks deal, aligns with Dickinson, Mrazek, and Foligno. All come off the books when KD is expecting to be in the window and he has to start paying the kids. Upgrade 27 pick which gives an asset for the deadline as they should be in the hunt by then. Lafferty good on the PK, upgrade to the 4th line.
Every team wants cap space, dang.
Except Washington who took PLD lol
Canucks are pushing some important buttons. The competition between Vancouver and Edmonton is going to be something for a few years.
Go Canucks! Good trade
10 years from now I'm looking forward to the Canucks version of Moneyball where the movie depicts how they built a dynasty without ever needing to make a high draft pick - now that the core is in place, of course...
Too slow bro TEG broke it first 🔥🔥
Your team is young so with the right moves and this trade they can give Edmonton a fight so I see why they doing this I give your team props for taking them to 7 games 🔥💯
Sit back and watch Canucks fans, this is what competent management looks like and it's been a long time since this franchise has had it.
@@mannyoliveira776 Compared to what teams are adding as sweeteners this off season to get rid of players or contracts, this was a good deal. Freeing up that money for a second rounder years down the road is a win. Not many people will argue this. How many 2nd rounders make the NHL? People need to stop treating 2nd/3rd rounders as sure fire contributors. 35% of second round picks make an NHL club. Those odds aren't great.
I hope they dont do something rash on july first id prefer they wait those free agents will be cheaper im.not interested in Guntzel to.much money
Zadorov signing incoming, before the end of the week hopefully.
I feel you should have worn Blackhawks garb, but as a Blackhawks fan, that's just me... thanks for cutting to the chase on this trade.
Now this is what a trade is supposed to be like. Canucks get the space they need, and the Hawks get handed a second round pick and a guy who's already an upgrade even with his recent woes.
not sure why the Canucks signed Mikheyev in the 1st place? he had stone hands in Toronto
Excellent move for all concerned. Mikheyev when healthy can be a top 6 winger. Lafferty is a great 3rd line guy. The Blackhawks get experience and depth, the Canucks get some breathing room, all good all round!
Canucks free up 4m from a pylon for a pick swap 3 drafts from now.. And the rights to a guy who would be a 4th liner for us.
Wings free up 3.5m on a good useful dman for a 2nd this season
Someone check on Stevey...
We should still be good in 2027, so hopefully that 2nd doesn't become much. I was a proponent of them giving Mikheyev a chance like they did Garland, but I trust this management - if they think dumping him is for the best then so be it. PDG and Podkolzin can probably slot in as the 4th line wings
Good move by the Canucks
Now can the oilers move campbel at even 75% for a second???
Pretty please?
As a hawks fan I’m happy
Great trade for Chicago
As a Canucks fan, WE HAVE BEEN SAVED
Put da puk in da ba ku du net.
I think Chicago won, because Mikheyev wasn't bad with the Canucks. Sure, he underperformed, but he wasn't terrible. If he gets PP1 time with the Hawks, then he should score enough to be worth the reduced cost. So Chicago got a player who will likely play well enough to earn his paycheck and moved up in the draft in 2027. That's a win.
However, if the Canucks use this $4 million in cap space wisely, then they will also win. Here's hoping for the best.
Nah he’s going on pp2 most likely. Not a lot of people realized how hot the hawks pp was towards the end of the year and they won’t want to touch that.
Last time I was this early the dragon got slayed…
so basically Mikheyev was that good old rocking chair that you have in the house but simply cannot find a good space for and have to give it away since its not worth much and you need the space...in other terms he got put byy the side of the road
Great piece of business by Chicago.
Good admin move by the Canucks so they can resign a UFA or someone else's and they didn't have to use a 1st round draft pick, which is common in these kinds of deals. I'll miss Lafferty, but I'm confident Alvin and company can find a replacement. Mikheyev will probably be better this season, after being wrecked by injuries, but the Canucks desperately need cap space and there are no guarantees. I don't see anyone on the farm coming up into the roster this season, aside from maybe Silovs (but they might want him getting more games in Abbotsford), due to the lack of depth and the Canucks being in win now mode.
I still find it weird how hockey trades like this work, like when the leafs gave up a first rounder to get rid of Marleau's money, I get it is for cap space but it's just still odd seeing a team give up two players and a draft pick to get a lesser draft pick, it's something that just doesn't happen in other sports.
Lafferty wasn't ours, its just rights to sign him and mikheyev wasn't going anywhere. Hopefully they don't screw it up with some overpriced free agent
