Longstanding fave bands off the top of my head in no order: *The Who* - My first personal foray into classic rock, on my own. I'm a Boy, Real Good Lookin' Boy, I Can't Explain, and he entirety of Quadrophenia were revelatory to me when it came to my 'genderfeels' at 14-17 and Tommy - while about someone who was autistic of some stripe - did speak to me about isolation and how it can be hard to connect with others. In fact The Who take me back to a rough headspace so I haven't actively listened to them or talked about 'em in years. Who's Next is just a shot of feels no matter who you are though. *The Rolling Stones* - One of those bands that surrounded me as a kid because an old somewhat old and cranky family friend and rockhead loved them so. Grumpy guy he was, but a loyal friend as well. Cancer sucks. The Stones rock. *The Stooges* - Iggy Pop is awesome and he's was the other big favorite of that lost family friend. I wish I could listen to Iggy's latest with him. I think he'd like Sunday and Paraguay, in particular... *Devin Townsend Project*/*SYL*/*Anything DT does* - O-B-S-E-S-S-I-O-N, that is the word for my teen years wrt HevyDevy. After growing bored with the overblown Prog scene I found a guy who was crazy aggressive and joyfully effervescent all in one. No frills, no strings, just all the parts of my brain lighting up from epic music. *Green Day* - The contemporary band of my youth that I latched onto. Their classic punk rock inspirations made forays into the past classics rather easy. The narrative concept format of American Idiot got me very into The Who, which then slowly got me into Prog Metal concept albums. *REM* - Earthy, kinda broody, but jangly. I probably like them for being both kinda folksy and metropolitan. Stipe's voice brings me into his dreamy, earthy, lightly queer and uncertain world. *Judas Priest* - Metal, Sex, Leather, Manly, Cheesy, BDSM, Devils, METAL, PAIN! PAIN! KILLER!! KILLER!! *Halford scream* *Iron Maiden* - I find 'em nerdier and less sexy than JP, but they give me fun times man! Epic adventures are to be had with Dickinson & co. As an RPG gamer, how could I refuse the call of such epic metal? *Black Sabbath* - I know Dio's got the power voice, but Ozzy is the guy. The first four albums are just sublime. Makes me feel weirdly at ease. It's weird I know, but the riffage man. *The Smiths* - Only listened recently and they've raised up to my 8th most played band of the past 3 years in just three months. Moz is a funny guy and Johnny Marr's summery guitar gives me life. Also: Radiohead (I got into 'em late, but Fake Plastic Trees and Black Star always haunted me, Black Star especially these days), New Order, Joy Division, NEU!, The Velvet Underground (Oh no, what are you doing to the poor viola and why do I like it so much!?), Queen, U2 (I find something to enjoy in even their less liked albums. Pride is such a good and poignant song), The Cure, Genesis (Trespass is a personal fave, esp The Knife), Garbage, Blur, Ultravox (Ure is a consumate professional and his cover of Man Who Sold the World is just as haunting, yet robust in that 80s way - the true New Romantic workman), The Police, P-Model (Japanese Devo-esque band - one of their early concerts was graced by the presence of David Bowie), Yellow Magic Orchestra, Electric Light Orchestra, Tegan and Sara, 16 Horsepower, Sonata Arctica, AFI, Three Days Grace (I like Gontier's sad rock voice), Bad Religion (basic reinforcement of my attitudes, but they also have a lightly folksy sound that kind of foreshadowed my later dive into 60s folk- despite them being 'The Hippy Killers), Rush, Megadeath, Matthew Good Band, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Deftones, Dead Letter Circus, Karnivool, Misfits, Husker Du, The Clash, The Damned, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Cheap Trick, The Cars, Manic Street Preachers, and of course ...The Beatles! (I don't listen to 'em enough though.)

@@davisfamilykids Why you keep going at people for not having Pink Floyd on their personal lists? Personally, they do have their undeniable classics but if you really look at their entire body of work about half of it is just alright with a couple stand out tracks every so often.

Never fails to put a smile on my face. 4. Weezer- Got into these guys because of The Rock Critic himself, actually. Of course, being the geek and nerd at school who loves to say random shit, I instantly fell in love. 3. My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade helped me through my own cancer struggles. 2. Rise Against- Helped me discover myself politically speaking, and Inspired me to keep writing in general. 1. Screw it... My number one band of all time is Weezer.(Even though Raditude is a piece of crap). The lyrics make me just reflect on my life like pinkerton and blue. Rise Against is a very close second.
I'm totally binge watching your content this whole Thanksgiving weekend! I love your commentary, your views on music in general, and I really need to come back and jot down some of your favorite albums from past years so I can discover some new shit. You're awesome, Crash!!!

Strigiform They're a pretty good Technical Death Metal filled with some talented members. However, David Davidson's vocals have always annoyed me. They're not the worst thing ever, but it's enough for them to consider getting a lead singer.

Thank you so much for putting Rush at number one! I adore them so much but I seem to be one of the only people I know that likes them, let alone listens to them. They really deserve so much praise with all their talent and legacy since their start in music. :)
Because of this video I started listening to AFI and I dig them. I listened through The Art of Drowning, Singe the Sorrow and Decemberunderground and I dug them all, I plan on going through Burials next. I also sat down and watched the Rush documentary and it was great nad definitely got me intersted in listening to the band. I do have some questions though For AFI, fans seem rather split, some thing they sold out at some point, particularly with Decemberunderground, what is your thoughts on this? Also in regards to Rush, what is a good place to start?
Cool! I'm glad I could pique your interest in some of these bands! With AFI I can kinda understand why fans are so split. Especially the old school fans. When they started out they were VERY straight-forward punk. Not lots of bells, whistles or experimentation, they used to be more of a basic, full frontal assault. Then when they expanded their sound, there was some understandable backlash. But personally, I like the different directions they've taken over the years. If they'd stayed the course their sound would have gotten stale. It's cool that they too a chance, branched out, and were able to succeed with new soundscapes. Haters are gonna hate, but when it come to AFI, I'm no hater. With Rush... whew. That's a tough one. I guess it really just depends on your tastes. I would say you can't go wrong with Fly By Night, Moving Pictures, and/or Permanent Waves to start. If you want some newer stuff with a bit more modern flavor definitely try out Counterparts and/or Vapor Trails. And if you're feeling prog-y, then 2112 and/or Hemisphere won't do you wrong. My only advice is maybe to stay away from Caress of Steel, Presto and Roll the Bones. At least until you're more acquainted with their sound. Those albums can be tricky listens.
I've actually already sat down with 2112 and I really liked it, so I might go with Hemisphere next. I remember Caress of Steel being the album that almost killed the band, I am curious to listen to it based solely on that honestly, lol. Thanks for the advice on Rush and the insight on AFI. Not to take up too much more of your time but I am curious to know your thoughts on some other bands I am a fan of. Mainly System of a Down, The Offspring, Rammstein and Dream Theater.
1: Led Zeppelin 2: Rush 3: Iron Maiden 4: Gojira 5: Megadeth/Metallica (can't decide between the two) 6: Pink Floyd 7: AC/DC 8: Korn 9: Dream Theatre 10: Dark Tranquillity

Five high on the Coldplay, there, friendo. I tend to ignore people who say they aren't any good. (Well...no comment on their two latest albums.) And yeah, pretty enjoyable video you got here, Rock Critic, sir, and I was inspired to check out Sleater-Kinney. Didn't get it at first, but now I'm quite smitten. Their song 'Call the Doctor' was the one that did it; it found a crack in my hard, uncaring exterior and tapped away at it. Welp, while I'm here I may as well git on down and name a few more. 1st tier: (The) Pixies, Against Me(!), Nicole Atkins(!), Killola, Los Offsprings, JEFF the Brotherhood, System of a Derp 2nd tier: Yeah Yeah Yeahs (damn that's a pain to type), Between the Buried and Me (damn that's a pain to type), Muse, Tool, Mr. Gnome, Future of the Left, Dr. Manhattan My sister loooves Opeth, I can't really get into em for some reason. The song 'Deliverance' is a sick bastard though.

Can't put my finger on why I really like Marianas trench. On the surface they look like another pop rock group with many shades of emo but their sound is catchy in a good way for me and the lyrics are pretty damn clever with even the dumb parts usually being intentional. And every album has like a feeling that seems like each one is a whole play/ movie/ classic tale depending on the album.
Also as somebody from Canada, many Americans have at least heard of tragically hip to some extent even if it may be small, nearly no Americans know a single thing about Marianas trench
My list changes all the goddamn time but 10. Queen 9. Black Sabbath 8. Iron Maiden 7. Rush 6. Rolling Stones 5. Pink Floyd 4. The Who 3. The Doors 2. Led Zeppelin 1. The Beatles Honorable mentions: Nirvana, Van Halen, Ramones, prolly many others.
Mostly because there's such a rich story to tell with them. The "Weezer series" was originally going to just be one episode on Make Believe, but when I went back over their catalog I found SO much material (both positive and negative) to riff about. I considered putting them on the list, but limiting them to a 3-5 minute segment just wouldn't have done them justice.

No Pink Floyd huh?
Really?
Longstanding fave bands off the top of my head in no order:
*The Who* - My first personal foray into classic rock, on my own.
PAIN! KILLER!! KILLER!! *Halford scream*
*Iron Maiden* - I find 'em nerdier and less sexy than JP, but they give me fun times man!

You must have Pink Floyd on a list like this. Really?
@@davisfamilykids Why you keep going at people for not having Pink Floyd on their personal lists? Personally, they do have their undeniable classics but if you really look at their entire body of work about half of it is just alright with a couple stand out tracks every so often.

I do have some questions though
For AFI, fans seem rather split, some thing they sold out at some point, particularly with Decemberunderground, what is your thoughts on this?

And yeah, pretty enjoyable video you got here, Rock Critic, sir, and I was inspired to check out Sleater-Kinney. Didn't get it at first, but now I'm quite smitten. Their song 'Call the Doctor' was the one that did it; it found a crack in my hard, uncaring exterior and tapped away at it. Welp, while I'm here I may as well git on down and name a few more.
1st tier: (The) Pixies, Against Me(!), Nicole Atkins(!), Killola, Los Offsprings, JEFF the Brotherhood, System of a Derp
2nd tier: Yeah Yeah Yeahs (damn that's a pain to type), Between the Buried and Me (damn that's a pain to type), Muse, Tool, Mr. Gnome, Future of the Left, Dr. Manhattan
My sister loooves Opeth, I can't really get into em for some reason. The song 'Deliverance' is a sick bastard though.

1. Marianas trench
My top ten (no order)
King Crimson
Tool
The Mars Volta

BTBAM

Honorable mentions: Nirvana, Van Halen, Ramones, prolly many others.

Simple Plan still sucks.
Simple Plan is my neighbour
Maude Lévesque-Chénier What?
