One Hot Minute will always have a special place in my heart because, I remember my parents owning a copy of this album (along with Blood Sugar Sex Magic and Californication) when I was a kid and I listened to it all the time back then. I agree, it deserves way more love.
My absolute favorite Chili Peppers album. I love RHCP for what the sound they're usually known for but One Hot Minute takes it to a whole new level with the crazy, full, and overtly spastic sound it gives. I love it all.
So one hot minute for Red Hot Chili Peppers was like Warning for Green Day. Both were awesome but people thought they both sucked and everyone started listening to both of the bands again on the next albums, Californiacation and American Idiot. And then over time, more and more people started to say both of them were actually good. Huh, weird coincidence.
Same with Weezer's Pinkerton. Gotta love how underrated good albums get cult followings over the years. Even Mariah Carey's Glitter (the soundtrack/album, not the shitty movie) has a cult following now.
Honestly One Hot Minute is my favorite RHCP album, Dave was a killer guitarist and his metallic riffs really worked well with the music and they created some really good heavy jams on this album Coffee Shop, Warped and Shallow Be Thy Game are all top 10 RHCP songs.
This is fantastic!! I really dig this video. One Hot Minute in my opinion is the RHCP best album! However, I am a HUGE Dave Navarro fan, so I might be bias. I love the intense and dark theme to this album, and it also helped me get through the darkest times of my life. Shallow Be Thy Game is my absolute favorite song off of this album, but I love them all. You sir, have got yourself a new subscriber!
Jill Fiedler I think it's Warped, Shallow be Thy Game, My Friends and Coffee shop that are my favourites, with Transcending and Aeroplane closely behind.
Jill Fiedler Ok, so I'd be ok if you said that you like One Hot Minute, but seriously? You put this behind Californication, or BSSM, or Stadium Arcadium, or By the Way? The lyrics aren't creative, the guitar playing might be great but not suited for RHCP, the mixing is even bad, the drums sound so hollow and weak compared to every other album...
"One Hot Minute" and "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" are the RHCP I grew up with in the 90's. Dave Navarro brought more of a dark psychedelia feel to OHM and I love it. Everything after this album has been passible to tolerable imo.
It's so nice to know that I'm not the only person on Earth who defends this record. Still, I haven't even thought of this album in several years, in spite of how much I love it... Awesome review, dude. It's made me want to dig my copy out (and if it won't play anymore, track another one down) and give this another listen. I'm sure it'll have a much different effect on me than it did when I was fourteen.

Great video Crash. Trust me, I've felt like this before. To me however, the album that I stick up to is Machina/The Machines Of God by The Smashing Pumpkins. So many people have a strong distaste for that album and I think, believe or not, that the album is the 2nd best album from The Smashing Pumpkins, just behind Siamese Dream obviously lol.
@@Enceladus2106 Agreed man. OHM gets overlooked so often because the Frusciante super fans cry about it. I love John too....but OHM was their last really ballsy funk album...in my opinion.
I have been binging everything you make... but this... this is my... “Did we just become best friends?” moment right here. I have had to defend this album my whole damn adult life... and I don’t care for RHCP at all... it this album was so great and so hard and raw... and no mention of California anywhere!!! I think one of the best parts of this album is just Chad Smith’s drums. They make everything feel just HUGE!! And even on the more funky tracks it still sounds huge. Obviously Navarro and Flea just make it intense as all hell, but without Chad Smith, this album wouldn’t be near as huge and just all around amazing
Y4123 Not listening to Power of Equality is a Funky Crime ( I don't remember from which album is Funky Crime, but I think is before Uplift Mofo Party Plan )
Dave Navarro is a great guitarist. He just didn't quite work for the Chili Peppers. That said, I defend One Hot Minute. it wasnt the best RHCP album, but it wasnt terrible at all.
Top 3 honestly .. the most solid album after BSSM and Mothers Milk .. a lot of albums w John has some good singles but the albums overall are pretty meh

You're telling me. I haven't even so much as gotten an email or a notice from UA-cam explaining what happened. One day it was all there, the next it was just... gone. I dunno. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to pass it down.
I don't think people liked Navarro because they didn't think his style fits with the peppers, and when comparing this album to any of their others, Yeah, the guitar work is very diffrent and more shreddy and there is some funk, but a lot less and I think that's what some hardcore peppers fans don't like. But I personally think this album kicks ass, as well as almost all of their other albums
I think Josh is doing a pretty good job especially considering Frusciante hand picked him, the reasons I think people don't like Josh are 1.They kinda picked the wrong songs to be on IWY when there are songs on I'm Beside You that showcase his talent and I think if we ever get Getaway B-sides they'll show him in a better light than say The Longest Wave did 2.The mixing makes his playing very difficult to hear because there are remastered versions of IWY and The Getaway and I think they sound better than the original products
For once in my entire life, I get top comment. Finally, something my mother can be proud of. My father was just starting to claim me as his son again, and UA-cam took it all way! My life, my livelihood, MY EVERYTHING, DOWN THE DRAIN!

I love how we both dealt with the same past experiences but ended up with completely different tastes in rock... Three Days Grace and Nu Metal did all that for me ^^' Yeah, sorry
OHM was a great rock album it just was stuck in the middle of the grunge era and most people weren't giving any other rock sound any attention. DAve N. actually made for a bigger more aggressive rock record. Album still rocks!!!
On Shallow be thy Game i always thought they said 'I prefer a loving Dog'. I have to admit after all these years after in life and being close to Dogs, I do prefer Dogs to Gods
I may be a Christian but that is just insane. I was never told how scary hell is all I know is Jesus saved us god loved us and just be a good person. Not the shit that fundamentalist say that's just not the right way to teach in my opinion.
Mr. Bungle quit cuz Mike Patton wanted to move on to other projects similar to how he moved on from Faith no More right around the same time or maybe a year earlier. Right?
I think the main reason people hated Navarro is because that the fans were just use to John at the time so anybody else who officially replaced John would get huge amounts of crap.
This is so awesome and validating to find! One Hot Minute is my favorite RHCP album easily. It has more intensity, more raw emotion, more aggression, and more focused lyrics than Blood Sugar Sex Magic. Californication is soft compared to OHM.
This was very well done 👏 I listened to this album entirely for the first time today. Which is an embarrassing fact because I was damn near first in line to buy BSSM. Somehow I skipped this one. I was smiling and couldn't stop moving. I'm actually in love with this album now and the overall contrast and tone. Its Definitely darker but it still has those feel good tracks that take the blues away. Dave Novaro brought greatness and exactly the sound that the 90s were asking for. In fact this is the exact type of music that I was almost exclusively listening to in the early to mid nineties
And the fact that UA-cam is messing with you is just further proof of why UA-cam is slowly runing itself. Good luck and I hope that this situation gets resolved in your favor.
I like this kind of review..I've a question for you, what is the meaning (in your hopinion) of the main title song "One hot minute"? The most darker song of chili peppers in my hopinion!
Dude, you think evangelicals love throwing the word truth around? I was raised a Jehovah's Witness. They used it so much it was basically a second name for the religion . No, serioiously, we called ourselves " the truth ". Long story short we left and never looked back
There's been a group of guys starting one big mob chants outside of their shows at the Garden and Prudential center since I started going to their shows in the early 2000's always a highlight
This album reminds me of the lamb lies down on broadway, in the sense that it's such a unique album for the band. It gives a off this unique feeling that I can't describe that makes it so special, not their best but definitely they're most intriguing
As a christian, i do not like how other christians really act. They really like to shit on people, which is like the biggest sin lmao. Im nothing like that, im christian for myself, it brings me comfort , and i really do agree with a lot of what anthony says in “Shallow be Thy Game”. That song really helped me find my religious mind. It made me see that i didn’t have to listen to anyone else but instead form my own opinions. Great video btw. Im one of the people who love this album ^_^
one hot min was a great album...it was funky and heavy...too bad they never made another one like it...they went back to their roots which wasn't the same anymore
6:56...I noticed that the RHCP are at the famous Lamour. An awesome venue immortalized in Type O Negative’s “Unsuccessfully Coping With the Natural Beauty of Infidelity” a.k.a. “I Know You’re Fucking Someone Else.”
This album is the only case where I’m glad I don’t have any friends or family that are as hardcore music nerds as me, because I love this album! I play the CD in my mom’s car all the time and if I play my RHCP Spotify playlist I usually have something from this album as one the first to play. I agree that it isn’t quite their best, it is certainly underrated.

I loved that bit with ARTV, hilarious!
I have to admit after all these years after in life and being close to Dogs, I do prefer Dogs to Gods
holy shit, buttfuck, IN is just south of where I used to live, Huntington
Nice to see the Brain Candy reference
I may be a Christian but that is just insane. I was never told how scary hell is all I know is Jesus saved us god loved us and just be a good person. Not the shit that fundamentalist say that's just not the right way to teach in my opinion.
What do you think about Anthony Kiedes killing Mr. Bungle
really?
I know Mr. Bungle (mostly Mike Patton) hated them, even mocking Slovak's death.
@thenoosehangsfromheaven S U P P O S E D L Y Anthony may have acted like an egotistical dick. ..but making fun of Slovak dying was low and classless.
Mr. Bungle quit cuz Mike Patton wanted to move on to other projects similar to how he moved on from Faith no More right around the same time or maybe a year earlier. Right?
I actually love this album I think people don't like the heavy sound I do though
This badass casually fighting off hate missiles with a baseball bat.
I aspire to be this level of not giving a damn.
I love this album, my favorite.
I think the main reason people hated Navarro is because that the fans were just use to John at the time so anybody else who officially replaced John would get huge amounts of crap.
Nikita Lane That could possibly be true
Good luck and I hope that this situation gets resolved in your favor.
you should review
Frank Iero and the patience album parachutes
I like this kind of review..I've a question for you, what is the meaning (in your hopinion) of the main title song "One hot minute"? The most darker song of chili peppers in my hopinion!
Dude, you think evangelicals love throwing the word truth around? I was raised a Jehovah's Witness. They used it so much it was basically a second name for the religion . No, serioiously, we called ourselves " the truth ". Long story short we left and never looked back
There's been a group of guys starting one big mob chants outside of their shows at the Garden and Prudential center since I started going to their shows in the early 2000's always a highlight

HENRY'S HARD SODA!?
EEEEEEEEEEEEE
To be honest, Red Hot Minute was my first RHCP album I listen to. And was enjoying it.
*one
This album reminds me of the lamb lies down on broadway, in the sense that it's such a unique album for the band. It gives a off this unique feeling that I can't describe that makes it so special, not their best but definitely they're most intriguing
Favorite. album. ever.
This album was amazing from day 1.
Hey Crash, out of curiosity, what movie/show is the footage with "Not-Danzig" from?
+Jay Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy
6:56...I noticed that the RHCP are at the famous Lamour. An awesome venue immortalized in Type O Negative’s “Unsuccessfully Coping With the Natural Beauty of Infidelity” a.k.a. “I Know You’re Fucking Someone Else.”
One hot minute is one of their best! I dont get why it didnt sell. Its a shame people didnt realise its awesome jizztasticalness at the time.
This is actually my favorite RHCP album. Blood Sugar is my second. Otherwise I’m not a RHCP fan but those 2 albums I always loved, and still do
