John Gilbert WAS possessed in the presence of Greta Garbo. Actually, he looked that way alot in the movies. Some of his expressions, like many silent stars, were over kill. That was what made Garbo so different. Her expressions were much more subtle. The difference makes some actors look like clowns when they were paired with her. But her technique was the talk of the film world, women were dying to know her secret, it was either Davis or Crawford that called her work sheer witchcraft.
