I am astounded by the illiteracy displayed in this programme regarding both OCI card & CAA law. How are these two related is beyond me, because these apply to totally different sets of people?! OCI applies to Indian citizens who have become foreign citizens, CAA applies to religiously persecuted people who are NOT Indian citizens.
First of all, it was the Modi government which granted OCI cards to people of Indian origin, who had revoked their Indian citizenship. So all these people, who are now complaining about revocation of their visas / OCI cards ,wouldn't have OCI at all, had Modi not given them that privelege. OCI is NOT a RIGHT, it's a PRIVELEGE -if people don't get that, then they deserve to be kicked out of India.
Secondly, OCI and Indian visas are granted with a signed explicit declaration by the holders that they will not indulge in anti-India activities or proselytising and converting Indians (generally these are the poorest & most vulnerable Indians) to Christian & other faiths. If you break the rule, you get punished. No ifs, no buts.
Thirdly, it's also not true that only journalists/Modi critics got their OCI / visas revoked - their number is very low. Plus, there is an appeal process in place to get OCI status back. And by the way, why can't all these OCI holders take their elderly Indian relatives back to their own countries - so much better to see them everyday, than for a few days of the year?
Fourthly , foreign citizens like the French journalist whose OCI was revoked, could live & work in India, before the OCI card came into existence. So saying that the loss of their OCI cards has resulted in loss of their incomes is totally wrong.
Fifthly, the government of India has no responsibility to look after the welfare of foreign citizens, especially, those with OCI status, since these people can't vote in Indian elections. No vote, no representation. The Indian government has to prioritise Indian citizens and Indian interests, at all times.
Sixthly, it is remarkable that even if an Indian citizen is married to a native European citizen, he/she doesn't get an OCI like card/status of that European country ,without living there for a certain number of years. However, an European spouse + kids of an Indian OCI holder (who is a FOREIGN NOT an INDIAN citizen ) can get an OCI card, without ever stepping into India. How preposterous is that?
So kindly pipe down about India not being welcoming to foreigners and get some journalists ,who have done some proper research ,rather than base their reports on one "human story".

If you are (like myself) an OCI holder, you are a FOREIGN national in India. And border control is ENTIRELY a sovereignty of host nation. Same as CAA. India reserves right to exclude Muslims and hard Left OCI holder, if they choose to. Foreigner of Indian origin CHOSE to surrender their Indian nationality on their own volition.
OCI is a privilege and not a right. Visas are always a privilege.

This video is marred with inaccuracies. Leela Jacinto the so-called India correspondent/watcher, has no idea of either the OCI and CAA. Both are two different things and not related to each other, forget about OCI cards being revoked under CAA :)
While OCI gives a privilege for people of Indian origin to commute to India, own properties etc,
CAA provides fast-tracked citizenships to Hindus, Christians, Buddhists etc who have been persecuted in Islamic countries. CAA doesnt restrict anything but provides a window for the same. There are similar laws worldwide like that. India's External Affairs Ministry has already cited multiple laws else-where, like the CAA law in India. Indian EAM has rightly quoted - "Jackson-Vanik amendment, which was about Jews from Soviet Union, the Lautenberg Amendment, Specter Amendment and "fast-tracking of Hungarians after the Hungarian revolution, fast-tracking of Cubans in 1960s".
The western media has been selectively amnesic to all these while criticizing the vibrant Indian democracy and rule of law, and being blatantly hypocritical.

Thus no political activity. Therefore journalists. Human rights groups, and motivated personalities are not expected to apply. An OCI holder has several other restrictions. No government jobs, no unauthorized visit to sensitive and no-go zones, offspring of Pakistan and Bangladeshi descent whose forefather may be calling himself an Indian. One can conduct legitimate business involving commerce.
Don't break the taboos. Know and stay within the limits of law defined. Of course a journalist can sit overseas and spell their thoughts. But watch out. In their home country too the penalties are both severe and hard. Try it and see the security agencies swoop down on you.

Never came across any Indians who OCI was denied or affected due to CAA. Never saw in any news or status either. Please cover what’s changed for OCI due to CAA, just saying some laws amended is not enough. Also just saying critics are targeted is also false narrative unless you site some examples where individuals were critic of Govt and their OCI was denied.

Indian government(central as well as state govt.) always had issues regarding authoritarianism(especially when they have majority),this phenomenon is not new but the problem I have with other major parties is that the opposition does the same in states in which they are in power, they go after journalists and people they don't like(using state law agencies), so it's not like they are good alternatives. I had high hopes for kejriwal but this guy turned out to be a big disappointment.
