Totally agree about the ending of Ruin & Rising, that's why I was so excited the show was doing something different. We'll never get to see what could've been
Yeah, the series had the chance to show something different, but it’s a shame it got cancelled. I have to met I was less enthralled with the Grisha storyline and wish the series had been about six of crows more 😭
Only unhauling books you’ve read (or have duplicates of, which I count as their own special fringe case for unhauls) is such a good idea! I struggle with “what if?”-ing myself out of unhauling TBR books, even when I’m pretty sure I’ve lost interest in them, so I find this approach way more manageable. Having a surety of “this would do better in someone else’s hands” is so valuable, and really makes it so the books you’ve chosen to keep after such a selective sweep truly are ones you’re attached to at this point in your life. I really enjoyed hearing the more personal stories and memories you had attached to some of these books. Just because something isn’t for you anymore doesn’t make it less important for the version of you that you were when you loved it. This video is such a lovely tribute to those books. What an absolute coup, well done Olivia ♥️
I agree, it really is easier to unhaul books you’ve either read or DNFed! And it was harder getting rid of books I’ve had for a long time, so it was nice to actually talk through the memories and document them before passing along the books 😌
For Othello retellings, I'm pretty sure Malorie Blackman did one - Chasing the Stars? I remember it was set in space, but everything else about it has left my brain! 😅
Love your unhauls! They always push me to clean up my Goodreads list and my physical shelves! Definitely made me rethink having multiple copies of books 😂
I’m glad they can be motivational! Honestly, I think double copies are good up to the point where you have no space 😅 I would definitely rather have more stories than multiple of the same 🤔
Good job for getting rid of some sentimentals, that often feels like a big step :- ) I was disappointed when The Darkling wasn't more morally gray than straight-up evil and there wasn't more balance in the power dynamics because I was very inclined to be Darkling trash hahaha.
I do love morally grey villains because they let you think about things. But I don’t mind a straight up evil villain where you can understand their motivations from time to time (I think lunar chronicles did that well) and I kind of miss a villain who is bad through and through but I love how evil they are 😅
I don't unhaul often because most of my books are library or ebook, but I was recently lucky and got 8 books unhauled to me by a friend who is moving, and one is a Kiley Reid book (Come and Get It) so I'm excited to give her books a try
This is the lovely thing about unhauls - it is so nice when you get to be on the receiving end of the new books 😍 and yes, hopefully some teens and children enjoy getting the books 😊
I really want to try A Princess in Theory! The concept sounds so fun and I think I need that when going for a romance book. I'm honestly impressed with how many duplicates you got rid of! There were so many! Jessie Burton is definitely a difficult one. We've both had the same issue with her I believe and I think it's a good thing that you've let it give way for better books in the future. I was sad to see A Song of Wraiths and Ruin go! But it makes sense for your shelves. I've got a small unhaul accumulating again, but it gets harder and harder as time goes on!
I think it could be a good one for your romance starter pack (a princess in theory!). It was surprising to me how many duplicates there were as well. I am glad I read a song of wraiths and ruin especially as I loved book 1 so much. Just don’t need to keep it 😞
Hey Olivia ❤, I hope you are doing well. I have fond memories of When Dimple Met Rishi too, it was really nice to buddy read it with you! Well done on this unhaul! Aww all the love for your nephew, I love that you're saving books for him for when he's older. Aww yes I understand having sentimental / memories of books. It's really nice you keep that author's letter, the (most) important part rather than the book. I have the old edition of The Great Alone, I didn't realise her books were being reprinted, I kind of like the old cover (no idea though what the new one looks like, just that I'm attached to the one I have, though I haven't read it yet). Ah I have The Oracle Code on my library wishlist, glad it was good! I really liked When Life Gives You Mangoes too. I really liked Shadow & Bone but the other 2 books in the trilogy were.. not for me either! I really struggled through Siege & Storm and by the end of it I was so done haha, that I DNFed Ruin & Rising early on. I had loaned the trilogy from the library, so I either had to read them then or hand them back it and it became a DNF as I really didn't like where the story had been going so I decided to abandon it and read other library loans I had instead. I did borrow the Six of Crows duology at a later time and enjoyed that much more, gladly, than books 2 and 3 of the Grisha trilogy. Glad it's not just me who struggled after book 1. Well done on reading the Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children book just before you went to see the movie! I love the Sarah Anderson books/comics, I re-read Adulthood is a Myth and the other 3 I have, over the summer and really enjoyed my reread (I was feeling quite low and needed something familiar so I re-read a whole bunch of my owned graphic novels and comics). A Mouse called Miika has been on my wishlist for a while, I loved the A Boy Called Christmas books but for some reason it's been hard getting ahold of that one here. But I remember you not getting on well with books with animal main characters, so it makes a lot of sense to let it go (and hopefully Otis will enjoy it in the future). I don't unhaul books much. I have a lot of nostalgia tied up into books but I don't know if I could pick one story in particular on top off my head. I hope you are doing well! All the best for you and your family xx
I am doing well! I hope you are too (and that I didn't drag you over to UA-cam by tagging you for this comment!) But it is nice to hear from you again :) Aww, I am pleased you remember the buddy read as well. Keeping the author's letter and some parts of the memory was definitely important to me! The font is mostly what has changed in the reprints of her backlist books, although the covers have changed a bit of some of them too. I think you'll like the oracle code! I am glad to know I wasn't the only one disappointed by the sequels in the grisha trilogy. I liked six of crows much too. Rereading comics and graphic novels sounds like a good way to go about it when you need that comfort. Hopefully you can find a copy of a mouse called miika soon!
Thanks for introducing Yomi Adegoke. Because of this video, I found out that Ava Dellaira released an adult literary fiction book this year called Exposure. I read From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon and it was fine. I actually like Shadow & Bone more than Six Of Crows.
Yomi Adegoke is such a good author! And I didn’t know Ava Dellaira was still publishing 😮 we are the opposite as I preferred six of crows but it’s nice that the Grisha trilogy can be a favourite for some!!
I thought I had commented on this but must have forgotten to type one. Love Gaia and miss her videos. Well done for clearing all the books!! The last book I unhauled was How To Lose The Time War. It just really didn’t work for me ❤️
I miss her videos too 😞 ahh I absolutely loved how to lose a time war but it’s a very peculiar book and I absolutely understand it not being for everyone 💙
I hated Alice In Wonderland too, I had to study it for my GCSEs and left every class moaning about how much I hated that book 😂 The last book I unhauled was We Hunt The Flame!
I unhaul books if I don't think that I'm likely to read them again and don't think that anyone else in our home will read them, so I did let go of ‘The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea’ by Axie Oh even though I did like it and thought the cover was quite beautiful. A book that is really special to me and that I would never consider getting rid of is 'Julie' by Cora Taylor, because my Mum bought it for me when I was a tween and it made me feel that she understood me as a person.

Always happy to indirectly sponsor an unhaul... Even if it is through offloading books on you 😂
Hehe thank you for being my biggest sponsor 😌 (and therefore also contributing to Simi’s shelves)

Such a good feeling when you have a good clear out of your shelves!!
I felt very productive 😁
the hair is iconicccc
Thank you ☺️
9:30 - that is such a lovely story 😍📝📚
Thank you ☺️
For Othello retellings, I'm pretty sure Malorie Blackman did one - Chasing the Stars? I remember it was set in space, but everything else about it has left my brain! 😅
unhauling always feels so good!
also love that you’re giving so many of these books to friends and family!
It does! And it means they get something new to read for free ^.^
Love your unhauls! They always push me to clean up my Goodreads list and my physical shelves! Definitely made me rethink having multiple copies of books 😂

Impressive unhaul! I'm sure with the YA and middle grade books in particular their next readers will really appreciate them ❤
I don't unhaul often because most of my books are library or ebook, but I was recently lucky and got 8 books unhauled to me by a friend who is moving, and one is a Kiley Reid book (Come and Get It) so I'm excited to give her books a try

I have a feeling that your friends and family would site “Olivia” as their main source of books
They really can 🤭

I'm the same with Alice, I love the concept and the cultural impact of Alice in Wonderland, but I gave the first book 2 stars and the second 3
Yeah, I wasn’t impressed with the sequel either. At least we can enjoy all the retellings and spin offs 😇

I miss her videos too 😞 ahh I absolutely loved how to lose a time war but it’s a very peculiar book and I absolutely understand it not being for everyone 💙
the only reason why I struggled to unhaul the 5th wave was the cover, but the rest of the books were.... different. So I completely get that one
I understand. It is such a nice cover! 😇
Recently I unhauled some Nora Roberts books that I had double copies of
It’s good to clear the double copies! Makes space for something new 😇
I have 4 big piles waiting to for me to film an unhaul. It makes me nervous but I need to do this before moving. 😅
Ohh yes moving is the perfect time to get the books actually out of the house. You can do it 💪🏾
I’m giving angela my proof copy of the latest liane moriarty
I hope she enjoys it! And nice of you to pass it on x
I hated Alice In Wonderland too, I had to study it for my GCSEs and left every class moaning about how much I hated that book 😂 The last book I unhauled was We Hunt The Flame!
Hahaha I’m so glad I never had to really study that 😝 and fair enough as you didn’t really love we hunt the flame!
@@OliviasCatastrophe You are so lucky you didn't, and I am so jealous lol!
:)

That makes sense - less point in keeping them then! But it’s also nice that you have some books with sentimental value that you’d never give away 😚
