Thanks for the vid! A lot of the critiques are pretty common and we actually addressed most of them in the upcoming reprint/sequel (AEGIS Season 2/Second Ignition) ((kickstarter signup page is up etc)), the main one being a new mode where your bots respawn and the win condition is more objective-based - so less snowballing. In the sequel we've also brought in a team of very talented, spicy artists whereas in the first box, I did most of the art myself. In general we've cut a lot of fat and made a lot of stuff unilaterally better since this edition came out, and if the core ideas here tickle anyone's fancy, I'd look out for the new stuff that's about to hit.
Oh also the game is out of print right now and apparently very rare, so if you find one somewhere I'd nab it! (any cards we update in the reprint will be an upgrade pack for 1st edition owners)
@@ZephyrWorkshop What's the sequel called
Why is he saying Aigis like the Persona 3 character and not Aegis like the Xenoblade 2 character?
Oh I know this game! The developers are working on a stand alone sequel right now!
I really wish you would do a full playthrough of games for a live stream. It would be so fun to watch. Although, I can see why you might not want to do that since it turns your hobby into a job.
This kinda reminds me of the long-forgotten game HeroScape! Different weapons and abilities and movements and whatnot. It's too bad that game never took off, but this one looks pretty neat and a nice alternative.
Can confirm -- I loved heroscape back in the day and am super into AEGIS nowadays!
I've been recently trying to pick up an original copy of Heroscape. They're rare now
@@davidtaylor142 Hasbro announced recently that they're bringing it back soon! Should probably wait to see how that goes. I loved the game and really hope it lives up to the original.
Can confirm that new Heroscape will be sweet. They’ve recruited 7 members of the Heroscape customs community to be heavily involved in design and testing, which really speaks to how invested they are in making this a game people will love.
@@gophermanX I've heard, but I also kinda want the version I saw as a kid and desperately wanted
This looks sick
combining robots is a man's romance.
I met one of the developers for this at ECCC 2021! He was a super cool guy. Glad to see this featured on here.
can't believe there's going to be 3 ECCCs within like 18 months lol
Great meeting you too!
I actually love your board game reviews
as soon as i heard "if you generate less than 5 energy you lose" i went "damn, that's gonna backfire hard".
I am excited less go
Got this at GenCon when they had a bundle deal with Giga-Robo, which was the game I was/still am WAY more interested in with a similar theme
This looks really interesting. Yes I like robots and I like hexes
oh man do we have a game for you (giga robo)
(also us)
Heh, I illustrated the commanders
for this game a good good while ago. Color me chocked when I just randomly see the game when I'm scrolling down.
Still waiting for mine to show up. Should have arrived August of last year
The problem about having less robots could be solve with a "extra turn(s)" mechanic for the player with less machines. Combined mechs would count as the number of their components, and the difference between units would be the number of extra turns/movement for the losing player. They could also use some extra energy if balance is necessary, like an "overheat" mechanic.
Would you say this is a good place to start in this genre for someone who hasn't played games like this? I'm p new to board gaming in general, I only have clank and wingspan
On a complexity scale from Chess(1) to Warhammer 40k (10), this game is about a 4, it was made to be an "entry level war game" and mostly succeeds. You can try the game on tabletop simulator too
@@Norse thank you!
I didn't know you did board game videos! If you don't mind playing in progress games over Tabletop Simulator I would love to have your thoughts on my robot game.
You should check out the game King of Tokyo, it’s my personal favourite.
Informative! If you review other tactical grid-based games I certainly would be interested to hear your thoughts on which ones wowed you.
You got me in a rabbit hole searching for a badass game for me and my friends haven't found that banger yet though 🤔

sir... sir it is pronounced ee-jis... it's... it's pronounced-- no, no this is not the character from persona this is the greek word aegis and it is pronounced ee-jis.
n-no, please, it's ee-jis, p-please... n-no it's not eye-gus... it's... sigh...

I really like how you go out of your way to find and mention the designers for the games. I hate how you HAVE to to _go out of your way_ to find that information sometimes instead of it just being on the box or in the rules book.
So apparently "aegis" is pronounced "ee juhs". I've always pronounced it "ah gus" and your "eye gus" kept throwing me.
So what would be different enough or excel for you? Any suggestions on what you are looking for that would shake things up or that you would just enjoy playing?
Thanks for the video ProZD!
I'm only doing this cause it kept sticking in my ear.
Aegis is pronounced "EE-jus".
Sorry, carry on.
Japan 🇯🇵should give Ukraine 🇺🇦 a Gundam
It is pronounced ay-jis. The g is soft and the first vowel couple is flat.
I'm pretty sure you could be an amazing radio host or broadcaster with that stunning voice of yours, What have you worked on as a voice actor?. I recommend checking out Growing Season from spanish developer EricRod.
What game would you reccomend instead of this one?
giga robo
Ayy - Jis
Aegis
it's canonically aye-guss now
Justice for Vic
no
Ay-jiss
I'm glad board games haven't died out, but video games have replaced them for me. If i wanted to play a game like this, i would play Fire Emblem.
They are great where I am, puerto rico, because of the constant blackouts during hurricane season (currently without power due to fiona, using a small generator for fridges and charging phones only) board games have become much more valuable to me than expected
Tbf I feel like this is explicitly for people who enjoy the combining robo aesthetic
Can you co-op/pvp with fire emblem?
it was basically created because we loved Fire Emblem and wanted a Warhammer-type game with a similar level of streamlined complexity. And also combining robots LOL
Gotta make a tactics game for every fan and occasion!!
Some boardgames feel like videogames but you have to do everything yourself.
There are luckily many boardgames that feel completely different as long a you can manage to get actual people to meet up physically. And then you all have to agree on what game to play
are you mongolian
For those interested in this game, they are working on a standalone sequel. Putting the "notify me on launch" KS link www.kickstarter.com/projects/zephyrwx/aegis2
