I've used an 2666v3 with turbo unlock with chinese mobos, excelent budget. The 2640v3 its better because of ring core architecture of the haswell. Up to 8 cores they share the 4 memory channels, beyond 8, like the 10 core 2666v3, they split memory bandwith. So in theory, applications that like memory band would perform better on the 2640v3 than the 2666v3, even with more clock/cache and cores.

From past experience these can also run V4 Xeons, and can be found for $80-150 with higher wattage PSU's(~700W+). 2667's are pretty much the goldilocks area of the X99 Xeons, after that you either sacrifice clock speed for core count, or overpay.

Anybody with a non-Overclocking motherboard (i.e. Workstations), and is also afraid of BIOS modding Turbo Unlock, then you may want to dabble in Broadwell v4 for the higher IPC, rather than Haswell v3... Broadwell often results in similar benchmark bumps anyway.
The E5-2640 v4 (10c/20t) has a decent 3.4 GHz Turbo, and stays within the theme of the video at only $7.
Also note that the E5-2666 v3 (10c/20t) [2.9/3.5Ghz] also would have fit within the theme of the video at just under $11, and would have been a contender to win in most of those benchmarks.

Might be worth it for me, but I don't like ordering stuff off random websites and fiddling with BIOSes. That said, for productivity, going from an i5-4690K to something like this would probably do a lot for me. Though now I've looked at it and I'd probably see a hit in single-threaded and not very highly threaded applications, which is most of what I do. I might just stick to this config until it gets to be impractical, then I'll buy something at a reasonable price and good value for money, with the presumption I'll get more performance for the money then than now.

The i7-4790 non K version is another good choice if you can't find any of the K versions at a cheap price. They tend to be much cheaper than the K counterparts and only be a few fps less, which makes them a fair choice if you don't plan on overclocking. From watching a few gaming benchmarks, the i7-4790 is 10-20 fps worse than the i3-10100, and it's equal to the Ryzen 5 1600AF. Upgrading from my i5-4590 to the i7-4790 removed random fps drops and stuttering in a couple of my games.

Glad you atlast looked at x99 xeon's! ive been constantly commenting about and also respect for mentioning Miyconst, he appreciates it! Also definitely get 2696v3 18 core 36threads 3.8ghz xeon for 50$ and test it your selft. I was quite surprised by low performance in wz2 with 2640v3, though you didn't test it with turbo boost unlock mode. 2696V3 with 10 core 20 threads core lock at rock solid 3.8ghz after mod, gave me around 120-140fps in warzone 2 with RTX 3080. Also the naming scheme for Xeon is easy, the last 2 numbers tell you how good it is, similar to i3 i5 i7 bigger number being better the last 2 numbers tell you how good it is, if it ends with something like 10 or 20 it's low end, if it ends with 99 or 98 it's the highest performance and highest core count chip. Also if you want to run dual CPU's you have to make sure the first number starts with 2

Could you compare something like the 8-core E5-2667 with faster clocks Vs the 14-core E5 -2680 with lower clocks?
I recently built a €300 Dell precision tower build with an E5-2680 v4. I’ve turned off HT for a small bump to gaming performance but with 14 cores it runs great in games like Cyberpunk paired with cheap RX 6600. Curious to see if fewer (but still many like 8) but faster cores would get better gaming performance in modern titles.
I don’t have a 2667 to compare but from my own testing I get the impression the lower clocked higher core count v4 Xeons actually do better overall in games from the last 3 years. I suspect the larger L3 on the high core count models help too.

Performance wise in gaming is similar to a i5 10th gen. Pairing with a rx 5700 xt that i bought used for $90 and there is no bottleneck whatsoever.
Gotta say with a cheap chinese mobo pair and an e5 2697 v3 pair up with a rx 5700 xt, my whole entire setup only cost $175!!! including ram, psu, mobo. Which is an absolute steal!!
Btw this cpu can draw alot of power compare to most modern cpu. So yeah the cpu might be cheap but the electricity bill, not so cheap.

the 2666v3 is also a good one, but since that was more or less an "OEM only CPU" it is a bit rare.
similar to an 2660v3 so 10c/20t but with higher clocks since it got much higher TDP.
some motherboards don't even list it, hell even Intel ARK don't list it, but most motherboards runs it with zero problem.
(tested it in an Gigabyte X99-UD4, MSI X99A G7 and is now resting in my server that got an AsRock X99 Extreme 11, none of these boards had the 2666 listed but was found correct by all of em)
i "retired" mine after getting hold of a second hand "new in box" with recipe Ryzen 7950x last February for a price that i felt a bit sorry for the seller (got it for 2500 NOK so around 220€ and even included an Noctua 120mm cooler)
problem for the 2666 and 2697 is the price on the i7 6950x can be even as cheap after a whole-seller in China flooded the market with B-grade versions of it, i picked up one for just over 50$ early last year for a "budget build", and with the 6950x you get one newer generation and working XMP (and DDR4 3000 and 3200 can be had for cheap and for my case gave a 25% increase in fps in most games at 1440p versus 2133MHz).
